You are in for a treat with a very tactical episode. I’m going to give you three hacks to craft juicy podcast titles that will attract your ideal listener. You can use these three hacks in anything you create, but I teach podcasting so that’s what we’re talking about today. You can use these in your email subject lines, blog posts, and YouTube videos, wherever you want. These are tried and true hacks that have helped me come up with titles that are highly converting, heavy-hitting, and super-triggering so people actually engage, listen, click, and subscribe.
Ready? Let’s go!
Want to Attract Your Ideal Listener? Try These 3 Hacks for Juicy Podcast Titles
Hack #1: Embed the number one pain point or desire you are referencing in your episode
TIP: Create an outline of your episode before you title it.
It’s hard for me to come up with podcast titles and then force the episodes to fit the titles. What am I going to talk about today? What are the three bullet points I’m going to talk about? Go back and look at what the number one pain point or desire I’m discussing is. Here are some examples:
Sick of Obsessing Over the Scale? Three Tips to Find Freedom (Pain point: obsessing over the scale)
Three Tips to a Clean Home in Under Ten Minutes a Day (Desire: clean home)
Embed that one top thing your ideal listener really wants from the episode or the top pain point. Note in that second example, I was really specific. I could have said: Three Tips to a Clean Home. But we have to go micro inside of our content so we’re not saying the same thing 500 ways all the time. Why is this different? It’s different because I will show you some hacks in under ten minutes a day. Challenge yourself to go deeper on your topic and focus on one tiny micro area of a problem.
Hack #2: Ask a question about how they are feeling in your podcast titles
TIP: You can combine these hacks or keep them separate.
Overwhelmed With Starting Your New Online Business?
Ask yourself, “How is my ideal listener feeling right now?” They’re feeling overwhelmed. They’re feeling sick of obsessing over the scale. In the previous example, I asked a question about how they feel and referenced the pain point.
Hack #3: Test different methodologies of titling
TIP: Don’t just title the way my titles look.
You’ve got to test what your audience actually likes. I play with podcast titles. I do lots of different things to see if I can spot any trends. I’ve tested:
I am testing all the time. I’m a Testing-Tina. Put on your Testing-Tina hat. Don’t be afraid of testing different types of podcast titles. You want to learn what your ideal listener loves. What your audience loves is going to be different from what someone else’s audience loves.
Test and try different variations
There is not one universal titling language. Sorry! I know people have all kinds of tips and tricks – I’m even giving you tips and tricks. The truth is your person has a preference when it comes to podcast titles. Come up with five different variations. Go with it and 30-60 days later, you’re going to come back into your analytics and you’re going to look at what the top converting titles were. Then ask yourself why.
