How Much Time Do I Need for a Podcasting Business?
I often hear this question and all the fears that come along with it. How am I going to get this business started with all the other things I have going on in my life? I have so much on my plate, how will I be able to add one more thing to it? I’m already exhausted, how can I make this business successful? I hear you, and believe me when I say you are not alone!
Over the years I have been able to optimize and become faster in my podcasting business. I am more familiar with my schedule and no longer edit my episodes. Also, I have team members that help me promote the podcast and blog, so I do account for that in my time log. I have a process that saves me time in my business and supports me when I have a lean week and still have to get all the things done. Keep reading below to learn my tips and tricks so you can run a podcast without it eating away at your whole week.
The prep needed to run a podcast efficiently
As of right now, I record 3 episodes a week. Each one of these episodes has a time limit that I set for it. I only use 10 minutes for prep, and I use 30 min to record each of these episodes. When I record these episodes, it’s just me sitting down in my comfy clothes with my favorite drinks while talking to all of you.
I do not edit these episodes anymore. The only part that I edit is the intro to the podcast episode and the exit ( which is already pre-recorded and saved.) I also use 5 minutes to write a brief description of the podcast episode. If you are using 30-60 minutes to write a podcast episode description, you need to join Podcast to Profit so I can teach you how to save your valuable time! For my Tuesday episodes, this only requires 30 minutes of my time from beginning to end. My team spends 30 minutes promoting each one of my episodes. This promotion takes place on my social media accounts as well as the blog. If I didn’t have any team members helping me with this process, it would take me about 2 hours to complete each episode. Remember, outsourcing can be extremely beneficial.
The only episodes that I edit are my coaching episodes. I don’t edit these myself, instead, I outsource them to Fiverr (use this link to save 20%!) . If I were to edit the episodes myself, it would require around 30 minutes per episode. When I add up everything that I do in one week, it comes out to be 2.5 hours total of my time to run a podcast. This not only provides me an income but more than anything, it impacts other people’s lives! I believe that we are called as daughters of The King to use our gifts for His glory!
A Podcasting Business Will Save You Time
Using this time log allows us to do amazing things for His kingdom and allows us to build an amazing podcast business. Even if you don’t have any help from team members at this time, you can still build your business and run a podcast with only 2 hours a week doing just one episode a week. This process is completely doable! It’s all about good time management. You don’t have to use social media to build your business! Running this podcast has created so much freedom in my life. I don’t depend on social media anymore for growth. I don’t need discovery calls anymore and my coaching calls are full! Every day I am gaining more and more leads.
After calculating all the time I have saved from NOT having to participate in all the things I mentioned above, that number came out to be 15 hours a week! This is the time that I am saving! You can save your precious time too! The bottom line is when you have your podcasting business fully optimized my way, you can be successful without all the other fluff!
