Social media marketing is dead! Yep, I said it. In this post (and podcast episode), I am sharing my heart on why it can’t and won’t work to actually GROW your audience. How you’ve been duped into believing that social media is the answer. I also share what you can do instead that actually saves HOURS of time while moving the needle WAY FASTER than social media marketing.
5 Reasons Social Media Marketing is Dead + What to Do Instead!
Your social media marketing efforts are not even reaching your audience
According to medium.com, your free organic reach on Facebook is only being shown to one to six percent of your total fan base. What?? This means if your audience is 1,000 people (and for many it isn’t even this high), your content is only getting shown to 10 of your peeps. What’s more, most people scrolling social apps are there out of boredom or procrastination. So, the likelihood of them actually buying your service is pretty much zero. That just isn’t why they are there. No one is searching social media for solutions to their problems.
It’s also reported that more than 90% of online experiences start with a search engine. And, almost half of website traffic is driven by search results, not from any type of social media marketing. Search engines don’t even pull your social content into their database. So, when someone is searching how to start a podcast, for example, my social posts don’t show up in results. But, my podcast episodes and blog posts from my website do show up, and they get clicks!

Social media marketing doesn’t build conversion from viewers to clients
Social media gets us likes, views and instant gratification that makes us feel good. Then we get hooked trying to get more. We think that this attention means we are growing our business successfully, but your revenue is a better indicator. Take a look at your profit and loss statement. Do the math on your dollar per hour wage that you generated through your business. Is the ROI worth it on the time it takes you to execute all your social media marketing strategies? Most likely the answer is no, because:
Conversion comes from a high-trust platform and a very short conversion roadmap
Social media platforms have too many steps from view to purchase, so they lose interest in the process
Your audience is not on social media to buy something
The point in the day when your niche market is most checked out is when they go on social media platforms to scroll

Most social media marketing strategies that attract leads cost a lot of money
With social media platforms, if you’re going to pay to play, you’re going to pay big. The less they allow your organic content to show up to your ideal target audience, the more likely you are to spend your dollars on ads. However, successful ad strategies require a large investment of money and a ton of trial and error to start seeing results. And, by results, I mean likes and group members, not actual paying clients! Instead, validate this amazing business that God is calling you to, by using your voice and creating trust by helping people.
You don’t have any control over where or when your content gets shown
You’ve probably seen influencers claim they have beat the social marketing algorithms. This is just a marketing tactic. They are trying to claim they know exactly how the algorithms work and want you to pay them to show you how to do the same in your business. However, these large social platforms actually have very complex algorithms that they strategically change on the regular so that you believe you have to buy ads to gain any ground.
The true ROI on your time is negative
You’ve been pouring into various social media marketing strategies, trying to go back all throughout your day to respond to comments, and pausing those precious family moments to capture them for more content. However, this can feel icky, and make our kids not feel as important. So, not only does the amount of time you are spending causes your ROI on your time to go down, the quality of your time isn’t as good as it could be either (plus it’s addictive, check out episode 213!). You can truly save time in your business, increase your ROI and enjoy each moment of your life much more fully. YASSS!!

If you’ve been following me for any length of time, then you know what I’m going to say already! Yes, sister friend, you need to start a podcast. A podcast is my only funnel for all of my Lola’s (that’s you), to get to know me and trust me and learn from me. So, when you are ready, you go straight to my website to buy my courses. It works so much better than social media marketing, because:
You own the content
It allows you to use keywords and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to help your niche market find you better
It’s very scalable, with a one-to-many strategy, without having to check back for every new comment
It allows you to set better boundaries, spend less time in your business and more time fully present with your family
The three options to own your own content are video, blogging, or audio. With podcasting as your business funnel, you can build your business much faster than blogging, and there is way less competition. You also save time by not having to look perfect and have the best backgrounds for video. You get to be yourself, authentically show up for your target audience, pour your heart out to serve them, and then set the phone down for family time without worry and social media addiction. Can I get an AMEN???
