Do you struggle with growing in your faith? Does trusting God’s direction feel hard because it’s not going as you thought it should or would? While it can be hard to trust God completely, we know His plans are far better than ours. If you want to grow your faith and trust in God, this blog is for you! In today’s blog, I share five Bible verses about trusting God and His direction so you can grow in your faith.
Scriptures for Trusting God and Growing in Your Faith!
Trusting and growing in your faith go hand in hand. If you want to grow in your faith, you’re going to have to trust. If you want to trust, you’re going to have to grow in your faith.
Isaiah 42:16
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. – Isaiah 42:16
This world is full of crazy twists and turns, trials, and distractions. But the Lord promises that He will lead you. Even though you haven’t walked this way before and don’t know the path, God is beside you. He promises to make the darkness light and smooth the rough places. The Lord is going before you and will not forsake you.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6
There are so many wonderful verses in Psalms and Proverbs about trusting God. But I especially love Proverbs 3:5-6. So often, you’ll read in scripture that you are on a path. And while you are on the path, you’re not on that path alone. You have to remember to lean on God, not yourself. You have to give up what you think is the way, outcome, or answer.
Instead, you’ve got to turn to God and acknowledge Him in every decision and step. And THEN (there’s always an “if, then” in scripture), He will make straight your paths. Are you actively letting go of your own understanding? Are you letting go of control, turning to Him, and acknowledging Him in every situation? If not, how can you do that a little bit more each day?
James 1:5-8
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable. – James 1:5-8
You need wisdom if you want to start growing in your faith, being at peace, and knowing that you are on the right path.
If you want the wisdom of God, He is willing to give it to you. But only if (another “if, then”) you believe and don’t doubt. Doubters don’t receive wisdom. If you are doubting, then you aren’t fully trusting, and God is not going to show up.
Challenge yourself and look deep within and ask, where is there doubt? Is there lingering doubt, wondering if God’s got this, if He’s looking out for you, or if He’ll provide everything you need? You can also pray and ask God to show you where you are doubting or not fully following Him.
You’ve got to hand everything to the Lord and work on replacing your doubts with an audacious faith in God.
Matthew 17:20
If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. – Matthew 17:20
In this verse about trusting God, the Lord is reminding you that all you need is faith. He can do more with one breath than you can do in a lifetime of striving. All you need to do is have faith that He will move for you.
You have the authority to decree and declare what God asks of you while you are here. So, when you say, “move, mountain!” it will move.
The mountain is a metaphor for big things in your life. Things you are called to do or overcome. When you partner with faith, you have the authority and it will happen. Nothing will be impossible for you.
Matthew 7:7-8
Ask, and it shall be given; seek, and you shall find; knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened. – Matthew 7:7-8
If you want big audacious faith, truly excited anticipation for what God’s about to do, and trust this direction and path for your life, go live in Matthew 7:7-8 for a hot minute. These two simple verses about trusting God have so much impact.
Ask, so pray, and it shall be given to you. Obviously, this is in alignment with God’s will and timing. Seek, and you will find. God doesn’t promise when, but if you seek, you will find an answer. Knock, and it will be opened to you. I believe God is saying here, take action. Pray (ask) and then take action (seek and knock).
To start growing in your faith, you need to start taking big action, praying big prayers, and going after the things God is convicting you of. But do it all in big faith. Not because you do it best but because God does it best. Do it with rest and peace, and do less but do it bigger and better with God. Do everything with discernment and surrender. Take captive the thoughts which keep you stuck and hand them to Him.
