Do you feel like there are seasons where God seems distant and you’re finding it hard to grow your faith? It can be so disheartening to be stuck in those periods of time when it seems impossible to connect with God.
But I have good news for you! My friend and former client, Mary Ann Griffith, has such a helpful 4-step system to help you connect with God, even in those distant seasons! Her system is such a blessing so I wanted to share it with you today!
Easily Connect With God and Grow Your Faith in Any Season
These 4 steps are going to help you deepen your relationship with the Lord so you can have an intimate relationship no matter what your circumstances are.
1. Notice Your Patterns So You Can Connect With God in a Way That Makes Sense to You
The first reason you may find it difficult to connect with God is that you might be trying to do it in a way that doesn’t fit with who you are. If you are not a morning person but you’re trying to fit in your quiet time with God at 6 am, you might have some trouble!!
Here are some questions to think about:
What time of day works for you?
How long can you stay actively engaged in something?
What kinds of environments work for you?
You have to connect with God in the way that He designed you, and that’s not going to look the same as everyone else! So for you, if that means getting out the candles and finding the perfect notebook and pen, do it! (I love the planners and journals from Horacio printing! And you can get $10 off with the code STEF10).
But maybe you need to put on some worship music and take a walk in the park, go for a run, or bike ride. Do what lights you up!
Creating space to connect with God in a way that feels good to you will be the stepping stone to meeting Him in so many other ways too! But if you’re in a season where He feels far away, start with seeking God in a way you already enjoy.
2. Work in Shorter Times So You Can Grow Your Faith Easily
We live in a super distracted world and our attention spans are getting shorter. It’s not always easy to set aside an hour to focus on our faith. But it’s more important that we can be intentional and deeply connected during our time with God, even if it’s only 3 minutes!
3. Focus On One Spiritual Discipline Each Day
This is a super easy way to connect with God intentionally without having to do all the things all of the time. Take time each day to focus on a different thing, and let that be the only thing you do that day!
For example:
Monday could be your day to worship God
On Tuesday, you could focus on the blessings God has poured out on you
Wednesday can be your day to dig into a Bible study (My personal favorites are the Soap bible studies by Horacio Printing! You can get $10 off with the code STEF10)
You don’t need to do the same things every single day to grow your faith. And you definitely don’t need to do everything all at once!
4. Live With Intention So You Can Connect With God Every Day
Connection with God is a conversation – it goes two ways! When you create space to listen – and I mean really listen – to God, He WILL answer!
Sometimes we expect God to speak quickly, or loudly, or immediately, but that’s not always the case. And sometimes, we spend so long talking to God that we don’t leave Him time to reply! You need to intentionally set aside time just to listen so you can hear what God is trying to say to you.
You Have Full Permission to Grow Your Faith Your Way
Sometimes we feel like to have a strong faith, we need to do all the traditional things:
And while there is so much power and value in those activities, it’s not the only way to grow your faith. God made you uniquely, and so you are going to have ways to connect with Him that are different from everyone else!
