A question I hear all the time from my students and from the women inside my community is: “How do I stay consistent in my online business? I’m having a hard time getting motivated.” I hear you, sister! It’s so easy to get excited and start doing things, only to forget or completely burn out a few months later.
Consistency and motivation are two things you absolutely must have when growing a sustainable and successful online business. So in today’s blog, we’re digging into what it means to stay consistent, and how to actually get motivated so you can always show up without feeling overwhelmed.
What I Do to Stay Consistent and Motivated in My Online Business
I am so here for this question about how to stay consistent, I basically wrote a novel as I prepared to give my answer! So I have been a full-time entrepreneur for over 11 years now. Thanks to God I have changed so much over that time, and when I look back at the early stages, I can see how inconsistent everything was. But thanks to God, I went on a huge journey and transformation to get to where I am now. So let’s break down the things I needed to do to find that motivation to stay consistent in my business.
Create One Micro-Habit at a Time
In the beginning, the motivation came from me, not from God. Motivation to hit a certain rank or make a certain amount of money. It all came from accomplishment. So when I finally got to a God-centred space around 6 years ago, I got out a sheet of paper and journaled about this question: “Who am I in God?“ It was so overwhelming to look at because I didn’t even know how to get there. All these things I wrote down seemed so far away from where I was.
But instead of staying overwhelmed, I chose one thing from that list to focus on at a time. I decided to create one habit, or one micro-habit at a time. And I would work at that one thing until I had it down and then I would move on to the next one. I built discipline habit by habit, and day by day.
Cut Out Everything That Wastes Time
As I worked on creating these God-led habits, I noticed that I was naturally cutting out the time wasters. I barely recognize myself anymore. I haven’t binge-watched TV in 6 years! We watch two shows a week as a family and that’s it.
When I have extra time now, I find myself meal-prepping, in our gym in the garage, or outside looking at the birds spending time with God. My priorities have completely shifted from me to the woman on the paper that God said I needed to become.
If you try to do things just for yourself, it will not return to you. You will not stay consistent, you will not be motivated, and you will not get results. To truly stay consistent and find success on this side of Heaven, we need to do things for and with God. This will be different depending on what God asks you to do. For me, motivation comes from:
My team being happy and fulfilled and set up for success
Take time to get rooted in who God is calling you to be in every area of your life. It’s not about making money in your business. It’s about who you are created to be and the difference you are called to make right here, right now. Whatever it is you have or do not have, it’s enough. You take the one small thing that God’s asking you to focus on right now and you show up for it with everything you’ve got.
You’re going to fail a hundred times before it finally clicks, and then you ask God what’s next. I didn’t magically become the woman on the page that I journaled about. I showed up every day to work at it. It’s taken 6 years and I’m still not there! You need to start with one tiny thing and stick to it. It takes a lot of discipline and a lot of obedience to stay consistent with that one thing.
Partner with God in Your Business
Not everybody is called to teach other people about their faith or to serve Christian audiences. But we can’t separate our faith from our business. It’s all one. When you release your business to God, you can finally start to receive. It’s an act of trust to give your business over to God.
Dig Into Your ‘Why’ to Stay Consistent in Your Business
I hope this has encouraged you to stay consistent in your online business! Digging into the why behind what you’re doing is the only motivation you have and can rely on. Come back to God and seek His direction and His purpose for your life and business. Once you’re partnered with God, you’ll find that you can focus on building the right habits. And over time, those habits will transform you into the person God created you to be. Trust God and seek His help to stay consistent in your journey!

The more I get to know my students and the more I participate in masterminds with my peers the more I’m starting to comprehend the overarching problem and prevalence of one, perfectionism, and two, overthinking.
Perfectionism keeps us in a place of constant consumption and learning. Redoing things over and over and thinking that we can’t move forward until they measure up to some elusive standard.
