Learn How to Have Better Time Management for Your Home and Business
Time management is one of the most important things we all need to come together on in order to grow a successful business. That is our time. I believe that our schedule determines who we become in the next season of life. If we don’t have a harness on our time, it’s going to be so difficult. We’re going through what we do to harness our time to support our dreams and our goals, and how you can do the same thing.
We are all juggling crazy amounts of things in our homes and businesses
Chelsi: What are the things from week to week that are really consuming your time?
Stef: For me, I’ve got two boys, a mammoth puppy dog that is always making a mess. I’m married, have a business, and run a team. We serve at church, and I have a husband who loves to do things, go places, and see people! We have a big property to maintain and a large extended family. The hardest thing for me was trying to manage my home because I feel a strong calling to shepherd this home really well. I feel better when my home is orderly. My mother-in-law once said, “The state of your home is the state of your mind.” I 100% believe that. But I also need to be available to serve and show love in the way my husband wants to, which is by being with people.
Juggling life & business
Polly: I’m juggling a baby, a toddler, my husband, a home to furnish, running Horacio Printing where I sell all my physical products (planners, devotionals, etc.), and my courses. I also have the Faith Filled Business Blueprint which is my business course where I help Christian entrepreneurs; Print School, where I help people who really have a dream to print something. And Design House, where people hire us to design their printed products. I’m currently managing about five employees, trying to work out, meal plan with two kids, and get my spiritual life in.
Chelsi: I am juggling all the same things, plus a wonky schedule because my husband’s a firefighter. He works two days and then he’s home for four days. So nothing is ever the same around here and it’s tiring. It’s hard, it’s cyclical, but there’s really no structure. We share parenting time, so we juggle that extra complicated factor. My extended family has always depended on me. I use my 17 years of sign-language interpreting at my church so deaf people can hear the message. Plus, we are moving!
How to have better time management and simplify your home
Chelsi: I want everyone that’s listening to know that we all are juggling the same amount of insane things. Hopefully, after you’ve listened to these episodes, you feel the need to simplify some things and get rid of the stuff that’s not working. One of the things that may not be working for you is what you have going on in your house.
We’re going to share what you can do to be able to cut down the clutter and the chaos and stop feeling super-overwhelmed by your house so you have time. To not only to be present for the gym, meal-planning, your kids, and date nights, but also squeak out 5-10, or even 20 hours a week on your business.
We want you to walk away knowing exactly how to have better time management. But first, I want to ask you guys: What’s the biggest thing you struggle with in your house; or, that you don’t struggle with anymore because you’ve systemized things?
Systemizing household chores
Stef: One of the slogans over my life has been “I hate laundry.” I had this cleaning lady for a long time and I’d ask if I could pay her extra to do my laundry. She had no interest because at all times there were like 16 loads of laundry. I’d send Chelsi pictures and she asked, “Why?” This went on and on for years. When we bought a bigger house, I just had more laundry. More space. More things. No system. When I’d finally go tackle it, it would take 3-4 hours. I would be full of anger because no one was helping me. I’d be putting all this stuff away, shoving it in drawers, and I’d be so frustrated.
Then I went through Chelsi’s Systemize Your Life. There was a very simple system to set up these simple routines that make things much more manageable on a smaller scale. It was my husband’s idea to do Family Laundry Night. So now he and the boys come and we all do laundry together one day a week. It’s actually really fun and we’re done in 45 minutes! It came down to having a simple structured system, as well as open communication, plus being brave enough to ask for help in doing something I thought I had to do by myself.
Chelsi: Expressing that ability and leadership of stewarding your home allowed you to say, “I need a system and I need support. How can you use things you’re good at in areas I’m not so good at?” It’s been so fun to watch this change.
Using a new operating system
Polly: When I first did Systemize Your Life, the biggest thing for me was the connection of my intentions to my actual schedule. I had this stuff in my planner, like ‘Who do I want to become?’ I want to become a daily listening daughter. I want to become a present mother. To have a schedule that facilitated it was the missing puzzle piece for me. How do you build a schedule around your bucket list and who you’re trying to become?
For a long time I thought if I have a strong business, I have to drop the ball. It doesn’t have to be like that now that I’m more productive due to my operating system. I’m actually getting my fundamental needs and they are sandwiched next to my work block. I’m not dropping a bunch of balls that I used to have to drop. Or work at night like I used to have to. That’s been a game-changer for me.
Stacking routines strategically
Chelsi:My heart and my passion behind all of this was just watching my mom work so hard while I was growing up to provide everything we needed. I think even in our generation, women still want to raise their children. Not everyone, but there are a lot of women that want to be home with their kids. But at the same time, you have this thing you want to do, even if it’s just washing your face, taking a shower, going to the gym, and eating healthy food. Just nourish and take care of yourself.
There’s space for all of that. To figure out how to have better time management, you can look strategically at five time blocks a day that works for every person no matter who you are, starting from the time your eyes open until you go to bed at night. You can strategically stack a few routines on top of each other so everything in your house has a rhythm and a routine. You’re no longer keeping it in your head and it’s no longer on a to-do list.
Applying a four-week system
Just like things can be automated in a business, there should be things that are automated in your life. 90% of what you do in your life should not be a thought in your brain if you organize it well. You have a business to run. You have a podcast to start. If you take two hours a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, that’s ten hours a week. You can start and launch a business in ten hours a week and start producing money for your family in just two hours a day that are so unbelievably easy to find.
It’s super fun to watch this in my own life. I use it every day and I love encouraging other people to use it no matter what season of life they’re in. And we want you guys to be able to have better time management too. This is a four-week system to get you on board with your time. You get all of your time and routines structured and also get into the nitty-gritty in your home and make sure that you know exactly what you’re doing when you’re cleaning, and know how to communicate these systems to your family so you don’t have resentment, bitterness, and frustration. You can actually work together as a team.
Follow this system to set up your life and business for productivity
Stef: I love that so much! What I really want all of you listening to understand is that we are three Kingdom-minded women who have been able to grow multi-6-figure businesses online, from home, in less time than we ever thought possible, without sacrificing taking care of our homes. Without sacrificing being present with our kids, if that’s a calling on your life. We know what we’re supposed to be doing when we sit down to work every single day. We have a workflow that’s been set up; a workflow that keeps us on task and focused. We’re doing all of this without sacrificing our faith or our families.
But we had to learn how to have better time management. It didn’t just happen overnight. We invite you to come and join us in these courses because it’s the exact process we all went through. Here’s how we suggest you go through them.
