How do you prioritize everything in your busy life? Do you struggle to form good habits? Do you want to learn how to partner with God on setting boundaries in your life and get more done in less time? I am talking with Sasha Star Robertson on her podcast Intentional Abundant Life. We are bringing you part two of a boundary blueprint on how to prioritize and form those good habits to get more done in your day. If you missed part one with the first three steps on how to prioritize so you can get everything done, you can read it here!
How to Form Good Habits to Increase Productivity
Take a weekly inventory for setting boundaries that matter for the season you’re in
Sit down with your planner at the start of the week. Circle the things that didn’t happen last week and ask yourself why. Do you see a trend? Is it always with the kids? Is it always the one thing you wanted to do with your spouse? Are you avoiding your work tasks? Look for the task you are finding is consistently not getting completed in the week so you can be intentional about changing that behavior or changing the boundary.
Sometimes we have to realize we set these audacious time blocks and boundaries and we need to actually tip toe into them. Be intentional with the shift that needs to be made. Don’t make the shift too small or too big.
Bring God into the process. My time blocks may look completely different than yours. That is OK because everyone’s life and calling is different. Discern what your time blocks should be and how long and in what order. Check-in with God regularly about this especially as you go through different seasons.
After you have circled everything that was missed last week, you have to make a plan. Go into the next week and adjust ever so slightly so you can follow the boundaries set.
When you force yourself to create a boundary around the routine, there is beauty, favor, and blessing in that obedience. – Stefanie Gass
Bonus tip: Sometimes the connection points with kids or your spouse can be things you are already doing in your day, especially if you are having trouble fitting them into your schedule. If your child loves to cook, you are already making dinner, so pull them into the kitchen to cook with you. That can be your connection point with your child for that day.
Sometimes your perspective on the boundary needs to be shifted. If you are having trouble following through with your boundary constantly, pray and surrender that to God. Keep your eyes open around opportunities for connection in the things you are already doing every day. Ask more questions of yourself.
Why do I do that alone?
Is there a way you can bring my kids in to help and simultaneously build a connection?
What are my reasons for ignoring my boundaries? Take them to God.
Build good habits and routines into your day and week
Habits and routines become an integral part of your subconscious over 21-35 days.
If you intentionally build a habit, it becomes something you don’t have to think about anymore, so it starts working for you automatically.
As you look at your plan for the week, ask yourself if there is any opportunity to build a habit out of a routine.
Try habit stacking to connect a new routine to an existing habit
Example of habit stacking:
To build the habit of a full hour of uninterrupted time with God in the morning, and stopping my habit of scrolling on my phone, I will create a new habit stack:
Get my morning coffee
Turn on the timer on my phone
Set my phone down by the coffee pot where I can hear the timer but it’s not next to me
Sit down with my Bible and connect with God until the timer goes off
These are the actions that over time become ingrained. You are always going to make your coffee every morning, so you are going to tie an action that you don’t do, with something that you already do until it becomes a natural thing for you.
Show up more intentionally so you can grow a business of impact while being fully present in your life. – Stefanie Gass
You Can Live a Life With Intention by Forming Good Habits
You have to find what works best for your personality, but you have to know your weaknesses. If you are not a type A personality that gobbles the checklists up and you would rather just flow through the day, that is great. Just make sure you create boundaries in your life and you are able to follow through with the priorities that you and God have set for your life and business.
I hope these bless you and you are able to run with these five steps over the past two days (if you need to, go back and review part 1). Remember, this is about consistency and making a process your own, and playing with it to make it work for you. It is important to have the discipline to see it through. When you begin to form good habits in your daily routines, you will see a dramatic impact on your productivity.

What type of organizer do you use to keep track of your schedule?
I prefer a hard-copy planner so I can color-code my time blocks. This allows me to see that I am representing each of my values enough within my daily and weekly schedule. My favorite planner is by Horacio Printing, and you can save $10 with my code found here.
How do I make sure to keep my business from taking over my schedule
First, fill in all of your personal commitments and time-blocks into your day, week, month and year schedules. Look at the open spaces within your daily and weekly schedules and fill in your business time blocks where you see open spaces. This assures you are living out your most important priorities first.
Why don’t you use the calendar app on your phone?
I do use my calendar app on my phone for important events, so I can use the reminder features. I also use alarms throughout my day for starting and stopping points in my time blocks. This allows me to put my phone to the side and know I don’t have to keep checking the clock.
How do you stay motivated when you get to a time block you don’t feel like doing?
First, I would pray and talk with God to discern if this time block truly should be a priority. If you feel God is asking you to honor it, then choose obedience. You can always ask God for motivation. You may also need to reduce the amount of the time block in more manageable chunks if it’s too daunting. Really get honest about why you are not motivated, and work out your thoughts with God and also a life or business coach if needed.
