Can you believe that Christmas is two months away!? Where has this year gone? With Christmas around the corner, it’s time to start planning and batching our holiday content. While the holidays are notoriously a down season in the business world, it doesn’t have to be. With the correct strategy, you can actually have increased revenue and downloads, as I do. In today’s blog, I share my top tips and strategy to boost downloads and keep revenue up during the holiday season this year!
Strategies to Boost Conversion During the Holiday Season
Don’t take a huge break from your podcast content! Instead, batch four to eight episodes and pre-record them so you can drip them out over the holidays. If you want to take a sabbatical or a rest period over the holidays, do it with the intention of maintaining your podcast. Because people will listen to whatever is available, and if you’re not available, they will listen to the next best thing. Taking small breaks is fine but taking a long hiatus isn’t beneficial for your podcast or business.
2. How to grow your downloads during the holiday season
Create episodes around season-specific content and pain points
We want to position our podcasts as the go-to podcast for right now. What is your person dealing with right now, in the holiday season? With all the different things that come with thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, kid’s out of school, and the holiday season, what are their struggles, pain points, and day-to-day grind they are going through? You want to position your podcast content right there because that’s the stuff people are looking for.
For example, if you’re a fitness podcast, they are trying to figure out how to make it through the holiday season without falling off the wagon. For a food podcast, how to indulge without overeating. A business podcast might include how to do end-of-year planning or a website revamp. Or if it’s a homeschooling podcast, it might cover whether to take a break from homeschooling over the holidays.
Action tip: Sit down with a blank sheet of paper, throw on some worship music and ask yourself:
What is my niche market dealing with right now?
What are their pain points?
What are they worried about?
What fears, blocks or struggles are they coming up against?
What are the small things, the daily frustrations they are facing?
Brain dump all that amazing content out of your brain so you can come up with that season-specific content. Take a break from your typical pillars and go hard on that seasonal content. It will help you stay front of mind and become their go-to person. This strategy also works well over the summer when people aren’t consuming as much.
3. How to play into the holiday buying spirit to boost conversion and revenue
The holiday season can be notoriously bad for reduced downloads and sales in the business world. If you are worried about people not having the money to buy your new course or coaching offer or not having the time to listen, don’t stress! It is possible to use the holiday session to our advantage. It’s all about positioning your marketing to appeal to the holiday spirit. Here are three tactics to position your marketing during the holiday season.
Offer a holiday sale.
Position yourself for a holiday sale. This could be a Black Friday sale with a coupon code you give to your audience, either on Black Friday or the week of Black Friday. You could also do a blackout sale or a sale between Thanksgiving and Christmas. There are so many options!
Offer a seasonal workshop.
You can also offer a seasonal workshop. If you teach meal prepping, you might do How to Meal Prep 6-Weeks Out for the Holiday Season and Not Fall Off Track. You could offer this for $97 or $200. Or, you can offer it (or other extras) as a bonus when someone purchases from you during a specific timeframe to add icing to your offer.
Position your offer as a gift to be purchased for a loved one or for your family to buy for you.
The last thing I’d like you to remember as we go into this holiday season is that it’s all about the marketing and positioning of your offer. One of the things I like to remind my audience is that your spouse and family will typically ask what you want for Christmas. And you can ask for one of my courses as your present. You can also position your offers as gifts that your audience may want to give to a loved one.
This is what I did for the very first course I took. We couldn’t afford it at the time, so I asked for it for my birthday, mother’s day, and Christmas present that year. And I still use the tactics I learned in that course today! If you are having trouble getting your spouse on board for a course you’d love, asking for it as a present can be a way to justify buying it.
Remember, the holidays can play in your favor because even if someone doesn’t buy doing your holiday sale, seasonal bonus, or marketing, they will have been watching. They will have wanted to buy and be ready to purchase in the new year. I recommend a large, juicy sale or live launch in early January or February to take advantage of that.
Feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start to boost conversion?
If this is overwhelming, and you’re feeling like, what is marketing? I don’t know how to come up with content, create a holiday sales strategy, live launch, coach or have a course.
Don’t worry! I teach you all of this in Podcast to Profit, my 90-day group coaching mastermind. It may be the hardest 90 days of your life, but you’ll look up at the end and be amazed at how far you’ve come. You’ll realize you can do hard things and be so proud of yourself.
Growing your show and revenue during the holiday season doesn’t have to be hard or stressful! Dig into what your person is going through, look at their seasonal pain points, and talk to those points. Then, offer fun, exciting sales and bonuses which play into the holiday spirit to encourage people to buy, get it as a Christmas present, or feel like they missed out, so they are primed for your sale early next year. Remember, whatever you do, don’t lose your momentum. Be intentional so you can enjoy the holiday season and keep your business moving!
