Do you want to save time in your podcast and business? Do you find it hard to find enough time each week to get your podcast episodes planned, recorded and edited, show notes written, get your show published, and get all the marketing done? This is why I batch record my podcast episodes! It saves so much time by allowing me to focus on my most difficult task once. In this post, I teach you how to batch record your podcast episodes and save time in your business!
6 Steps to Batch Record Your Podcast Episodes in Just 2 Hours
What is batch recording?
First things first, batch recording is when you sit down and record several podcast eisodes all in one sitting. Batching works with any task that you complete multiples times a week or month. So, you can batch your content planning, editing and marketing plans all at once to be prepared ahead of time. Batching your work allows you the opportunity to keep your focus on only one task at a time which saves time in the long run to get all the other things done in life and business.
My process for batch recording
I publish three podcast episodes per week, so It’s my goal to have 1-2 weeks of podcasts batched at a time so I can enjoy the other things in my life and business and be fully present when I’m doing them. It doesn’t always work out the way I want it to, but I find it works best if I plan batch recording into my schedule twice a month. Here are the 6 steps I follow for batch recording four podcast episodes in two hours or less!
1. Prepare your topic list
I know what my 4 episodes are before I sit down to record. I use my podcast show template, which you can find inside my Podcast Pro University course. This template has all the info I need for each episode so I can batch successfully. I always know what podcast number I’m working, the title, what promotions I’m offering, and when I’m publishing it. I also use my promotion calendar to see what I’m marketing during each specific episode. Having everything ready to go and clearly outlined is key to a successful batch recording session.
2. Outline
Next, I write an outline to follow for each recording. It takes me less than 10 minutes to prepare each of my podcast episodes. If you want more information on how I do this, check out episode 352. Again, it only takes me 10 min at most to prep for each recording.
3. Plan for recording time
It’s not as easy as just picking up the mic and pressing the record button. You have to be intentional with your time and schedule the time for these batching sessions. Make it a priority to plan this out. Look at your productivity plan in detail, and be very specific when planning this time where interruptions are not typically occurring.
4. Prep for your productivity and focus
Have all the items ready that you will need during this batching session. For me, this means I have my water, my kombucha, my iced coffee, a diffuser with essential oils, my desk is clean, and I’m comfortable!! Having everything I need within my reach means I can sit and focus my time and efforts. Also, my phone isn’t in reach, my family members all know that I’m busy, and everyone knows that when I’m recording, I’m NOT available.
5. Progress over perfection
Once you start recording your first episode of the batch, don’t continue to edit and re-edit it. If you focus all your time on that one episode, you will lose the rest of your designated time for the other three. Just hit record and get through it! Don’t obsess about your episodes; just do them! Expect that some episodes will be messy! It’s the messy ones that make us most relatable to those that are listening.
6. Prepare your completed podcast episodes for easy publishing
If you don’t take care of your episodes right away, you risk the chance of losing them. Save each episode in a specific folder, labeling them for easy identification. Write all of the SEO keyword-infused meta data, descriptions and copy right away if you have time while the topics and details are still fresh in your mind. Then, go to your episode tracker, and add them in there so you don’t forget about them.
If you follow these 6 steps regularly, you will get faster and more efficient at batch recording your podcast episodes. If you aren’t in Podcast Pro University yet, this is your time! The investment you make in your business is priceless!! This course will change your life and take your business to the next level. The podcast community alone is worth every penny. I hope this has helped you today. Be blessed!
