defeat the enemy, strongholds and spiritual warfare
Hey Friend!
Have you ever wondered what the bible says about provision? Maybe you’ve read the verses but wondered what biblical provision even means. In today’s blog, we look to scripture and unpack bible verses for provision to find answers to these questions. If you’ve ever struggled with whether God can or will provide for you, this is a must-read!
Bible Verses for Provision. Discover the Biblical Provision God has for You.
What is biblical provision?
According to Dictionary.com, provision is “something provided; a measure or other means for meeting a need, or the providing or supplying of something, especially of food or other necessities.” But as Christians, we first and foremost want to know what the bible says about provision.
Before diving into the Bible verses for provision, I also want to point out that God provides according to His will. God might provide differently from what we expect, and we must find peace, trust, and confidence in that, knowing He always does provide for His children. Secondly, while God will provide everything that we need, the greatest thing He’s ever provided is Himself. He provided Jesus, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and a way for us to grow closer to Him.
Biblical provision is a gift
Remember, biblical provision for us as believers is, first and foremost, our salvation. We know that the provision has already been given through the gospel. James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the father of lights in whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” Every truly good thing in our lives comes straight from God.
Next, let’s have a look at some of the bible verses for provision. Maybe you have God’s provision in one area of your life, but you are praying for it in another. Maybe you need His provision in your marriage, finances, patience, business, or health.
Remember, God is a faithful provider and He hears your prayers. One of my favorite promises of this comes from Psalms 18, which says, I cried out to God, and He heard me in His mighty sanctuary. It’s so important that we grow in that belief and trust that He will provide for our needs. Maybe not in the way you expect and not in your timing, but His plans are better than yours.
1.There is biblical provision for our needs
Philippians 4:19
My God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19
So, God will supply every need; that is a promise right here in scripture. Every need will be supplied.
2.God will equip you with exactly what you need
2 Corinthians 9:8
God is able to make all grace abound to you, so having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. – 2 Corinthians 9:8
Because you are called to do good works for the kingdom, use your spiritual gifts, step out into your call, and be the light of the world. God will ensure you have all the things you need in all the times you need them to be able to do the work He’s called you to do. Isn’t that so great?!
God equips the called
I see this as a nothing more, nothing less scenario. God equips you with exactly what you need. Sometimes we have to question the desire for more; why do I believe I need more right now? Don’t I have everything that I need? That’s not to say desiring more can’t be biblical; sometimes, it can be. Maybe God is calling you to the next level, He’s taking you places, or you feel the call to tithe more, pour into a particular mission, or even get out of debt. Getting out of debt is definitely stewarding your money for the glory of God.
We want to check and ask the question, am I so grateful here in the provision God has already gifted me?
3. To receive biblical provision, seek the kingdom of God
Matthew 6:33
But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33
This is another one of the bible verses for provision that stretches us a bit. Are we first seeking the kingdom of God? Are we first seeking righteousness, goodness, and a pure heart? And then (scripture always does this!) these things will be added to you.
Challenge yourself. Am I first seeking the kingdom of God and praying? Am I surrendered? In the word? Am I praying for His wisdom and asking for His provision in these areas?
Even getting healthy and getting the supplies, the knowledge, or whatever you need to finally treat your body like a temple is a provision from God. Knowing that you are not doing this to look a certain way but because you want to glorify God by the way you treat your body.
4.Biblical provision means being content in all situations
Philippians 4:11-12
Not that I am speaking of being in need because I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance, and need. – Philippians 4:11-12
How beautiful is it that we can be content in any situation? God allows us to experience hunger or that pain point in our life and abundance. He allows us as humans to experience both, and I believe it is so we can help other people. If we only lived in abundance, we wouldn’t have the heart connection or the experience to reach people where they are at.
You are called through Biblical provision
Every single one of you is called! You wouldn’t be reading (or listening!) to my content if you weren’t called to do something big and great in your life. You are here divinely because God is telling you it’s time. It’s time to speak up, speak out, and start.
And if you have that call on your life, you better believe God will walk you through some dry seasons because you’ve got to be prepared in your perseverance so you can rise to teach others how to step out of the shadows.
Pain is not over. We’ve got to walk through a variety of seasons in our life. There is never a moment where we have all the abundance in every area of our lives; that isn’t Godly or biblical. We have to walk through every circumstance, BUT we will receive everything we need to make it through.
5.Remember God’s ultimate provision: Jesus!
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
So while we struggle for more provision for whatever we desperately need, the breakthrough you know is coming or the pain you are so tired of having, we are called to remember in our pain, struggle, and yearning for provision how God felt when He sent His only Son to die on the cross in a fallen world for us. No pain, suffering, or lack can possibly touch the sacrifice God made for us.
We already have everything that we need right here, right now. We are provided for, and we have sufficiency in all areas, in all things, at all times when we seek the kingdom of God.
Finally, we already know how this ends! We have eternal life in Christ Jesus by believing that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour. By speaking it out, truly believing it, and surrendering your heart to Him, you are saved.
