As Christian women entrepreneurs, we are often faced with the question, “How do you define success?” While there are a lot of different answers to this question, we have a tendency to look to the world’s way of answering. But as believers, it’s important we come back to the word of God and seek out the biblical definition of success. So in today’s blog, we will explore four biblical truths about ‘success’ and what it means to focus on God-centered success that benefits His kingdom.
4 Biblical Truths About Success. Define Success God’s Way!
Some people feel like success means achieving financial freedom. For others, it means more time in your life or more fulfillment. It’s important to consider what success means to you as you think about why you’re doing what you do in your business. As Christians, we need to come back to the foundations of the definition of success biblically. We need to be focused on God-centred success that will benefit His kingdom. The enemy uses the desires of the world to cloud us and take a stronghold over our lives, and we must defeat the enemy with Godly truth. So here are 4 truths from the bible to ground your view of success in God’s word.
1. The Definition of Success Does Not Come From Worldly Standards
“And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?” – Matthew 16:26
The temporary things we get here on earth such as money, fame, or recognition do not equal success by a biblical standard. Our success is found in eternal treasures stored up in Heaven. Therefore, we should not measure our success based on what the world says, but rather on what God says.
This verse reminds us that nothing will matter if we forfeit our soul to get it. Constantly ask yourself
God wants us to be obedient because He knows the cost of disobedience. God knows that if we are obedient to His path, we will end up with Him in Heaven for eternity. Think about it through the lens of being a parent. You don’t want your children to disobey you because you know that if they listen to you, you can provide everything they need. It’s the same thing with God.
“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. 2 You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God” -Deuteronomy 28:1-2
The promise of blessings is not limited to material possessions but includes spiritual blessings, such as peace and joy. When we are obedient to God, we open ourselves up to His blessings. Success and blessings will come because we are obedient to what He is asking us to do.
3. Success is found in God’s provision and favor
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:19
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” -Proverbs 3:5-6
By this definition of success, we are already successful because God will provide everything for us. We don’t have to strive for anything. God is already giving you every single thing you need.
Additionally, God has laid out the path for you. You don’t need to throw spaghetti at the wall and hope that something sticks. God has already prepared the way. The biblical definition of success is trusting God’s plan and the beautiful life God has already created for you.
4. A Biblical Definition of Success Is About God-Centered, Others-Focused Living
It’s not about us. I know it’s hard to remember because of all the worldly distractions, but it truly is not about us. We can ask the Holy Spirit to help us stay focused on our gifts and how we can use those gifts that God gave us to bless others and grow the kingdom.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” -Matthew 5:16
Our good works are to be used, our kingdom gifts are to be put into the world, we are to pursue our calling and we are to work hard. But it’s all to glorify God. Our success should not be based on what it gets us, but on how it gives to others.
Our Definition of Success as Christian Businesswomen
There is nothing wrong with being ambitious and achievement-driven. It’s about making sure our intention and focus is on the right outcome of our work. We need to make sure all our work is pointing to God, helping other people, and glorifying Him. We can actively do this by focusing on obedience to God, trusting in His provision and favor, and living a life that is centered on glorifying Him and blessing others. The true definition of success is found in Jesus Christ and the eternal treasures that we will receive in Heaven.
