As we spend extra time with our kids during the holiday season, we are able to remind ourselves what a true blessing, privilege, and honor it is to get to shepherd these little ones. Do you need some help and guidance on what bible verses to pray over your kids? Pray fiercely for them and lean on the Lord to protect them. I have seven Bible verses for you to pray over your kids.
Pray These 7 Bible Verses Over Your Kids!
If you are anything like me, you sometimes worry about raising your kids in this fallen place. We forget that we need not worry, that we just need to lean on Him and move into a warfare space of prayer partnered with the Holy Spirit. Pray these verses from a stance of gratitude because God has got them.
I want to bring us back to this grounded space of scripture about what we can be praying and believing for when it comes to our kids.
Luke 18:6 – “But Jesus called the children to him and said let the little children come to me and do not hinder them for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
Psalm 127:3 – “Behold children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.”
Isaiah 15:13 – “All your children shall be taught by the Lord and great shall be the peace of your children.”
7 Bible Verses to Pray for God to Watch Over Your Children
These Bible verses to pray over your kids will bless them and help shield them from the enemy and any spiritual warfare they may come up against.
1. Psalm 32:8
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go. I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”
Prayer:
“Lord, I pray that you would instruct my kids and teach them in the way that they should go, that you will counsel them with your eye upon them just like Psalm 32:8 says.”
2. Philippians 1:6
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Prayer:
“Lord, in Phil 1:6 you say you are confident of this very thing. I pray that you will begin the good work in my kids and they will continue to perfect it and refine it and further it in their hearts and they will live out the good work that you have planned for them.”
3. Proverbs 16:3,9
“Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established… The mind of man plans his way but the Lord directs his steps.”
Prayer:
“Father, I pray that my kids will commit their works and plans to the Lord. That you would establish their steps and show them exactly the way to go.”
That means for me that God would convict them of His path more than theirs, that He would establish in their mind the way they should go.
4. Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”
Prayer:
“Lord, I pray that my kids would not be anxious, covered in worry or fear. But that you would convict them of the power of prayer. That with gratitude and thanksgiving Holy Spirit would pour through them to reach you so that their requests would be heard by you Mighty God just the way you have promised.”
5. Ephesians 6:14-15
“Stand therefore having fastened on the belt of truth and having put on the breast of righteousness, and shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.”
Prayer:
“I pray that my kids will place on the belt of truth, your truth. They will be wearing the breast of righteousness, that you will clothe them and armor them from head to toe. Place the shoes on their feet and give them the readiness to face everything that will come up against them so they will be victorious through Christ Jesus. And live by the gospel of peace.”
6. 1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability. But with the temptation, He will also provide the way of escape that you will be able to endure.”
Prayer:
“Lord, I pray over my kids that no temptation will overtake them. Because you are faithful, you will not let them be tempted beyond their ability, but you will provide a way of escape. I pray that they will lean into the escape and not into the temptation. I declare this over their life and over their choices and over their future in Jesus name!”
7. Matthew 22:37
“He said to him, you shall love the Lord God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
Prayer:
“Lord, I pray that my kids would know you and they would experience your love. That they would know your presence, their entire heart and soul, and mind would be filled with the presence of God. That they may intimately experience a relationship with you that they would constantly turn to in times of trial. That you would be the steadfast rock on which they stand like you say in Matthew 22:37.”
