We are talking about AI – Artificial Intelligence – ChatGPT. Should you be using it for your podcast in any way, shape, or form? How can you use it? Am I using it?
If you’ve been wanting to start a podcast but you’re confused about if it would work for you, how it would work, or how it actually makes money, I want you to head to my free 40-minute workshop at podcastforgrowth.com. It’s a visual workshop, that shows you all of the answers to your questions. I hope it will bless you and help you see how this method can be a huge time-saver for you, where you can actually make income and impact much faster.
What is ChatGPT and How Did I Learn About It?
I remember the first time I experienced Artificial Intelligence (AI) at a high-level mastermind. Someone I respect and admire asked if I had seen it and proceeded to show me how I could create a blog post by telling this magical, creepy thing on the internet exactly what I wanted it to say. She said, “Tell it to create a blog post for Christian women telling them why they would want to start a podcast and include a specific Bible verse.”
I typed as specifically as I could and hit submit. This software spit out this well-written blog post in about ten seconds. It was jaw-on-the-floor crazy. I have a whole team of interns who are bloggers for us. Does this mean we shouldn’t blog anymore? Should I be using ChatGPT?
Thankfully, I’ve learned to stop, pray, learn, think, and research. As I did those things, I learned that while it can save time, it is something that is duplicatable. When we create something that is duplicatable, we lose the uniqueness and ability to stand out in a very crowded marketplace. So I decided NOT to use ChatGPT for my blog posts, and not to use AI very much in my business. The main reason is that I want to stay unique. I want to stay me; vulnerable, deep, and authentic. I want to have a true, one-on-one connection with you.
Once I start leaning on the internet, I will lose that authenticity and connection you know and love. That does not mean Artificial Intelligence is bad or wrong. I actually use ChatGpt and Jasper AI for brainstorming. These are good tools (though I don’t know if good is the right word). I’m still discerning if it’s evil or not. My verdict is still out, but I have dabbled.
What Can ChatGPT Do For You?
ChatGpt can give you 5-10 podcast ideas. In my opinion, it does an awful job of giving you titles. They look the same and are super fluffy; going completely against everything I teach about creating podcast titles. If you have created a title with ChatGPT, I can spot it a mile away.
I would not suggest relying on it and using it verbatim. That’s the worst thing you can do. The best approach is to use AI to supplement your creativity, but not to replace it. Use it as a tool. Replacing what you’re creating is a bad business play because you do not want to be doing what everyone else is doing.
I don’t have data on this yet, but from what I’ve heard from my friends in the SEO game is that AI-produced blog posts and content are getting significantly lower visibility from an SEO perspective than authentically, human-crafted content.
The internet knows it came from the internet.
That being said, how am I using it? If I’m stuck on a podcast episode, I may ask ChatGPT for some ideas. I would prefer to ask you what content you want me to create, but there have been times when I’ve asked ChatGPT for ideas.
The other thing I use is called Jasper to help with my podcast descriptions. This is a paid service, but you can probably do this with ChatGPT too. I will ask it to create an introduction for the blurb in the show notes. Once I get it, I paraphrase it; never just copy/paste. It’s not going to help you from an SEO perspective, which is why we’re putting copy in the show notes in the first place. I change it to my keywords, my focus phrases, and my language.
What Am I Not Using ChatGPT For and How Will You Decide?
I’m not using it for email marketing, blogging, or posts in our groups. Our focus is to stay authentic and human-to-human.
At what level should you use it? It’s easier, for sure. If you need to use it, feel good about it, and have prayed over it, go for it! However, I want you to consider tone of voice. As podcasters, we have a responsibility to meet our people where they are. While ChatGPT can help you come up with ideas or brainstorm, it lacks the story-telling, the human connection, and your authenticity – the reason you’re talking about what you’re discussing.
So if you want the most boring tactical episode ever, which has no depth to it, AI is fine. But that’s not what you want, right? I want you to make deep, meaningful connections that ultimately lead to conversion.
If you’re going to use it, be aware there’s still a lot of work to do to infuse your tone of voice and story-telling back into the content.
AI also doesn’t fully understand or produce the result you want. ChatGPT doesn’t know the nuances of your micro-micro niche. It might not produce a result you believe to be true. If you ask it how to grow an audience, it’s always going to say to use social media, but that’s not something I teach. Therefore, it would be wrong for me to use whatever ChatGPT says as the answer because that’s not what God says in my life.
Discern. It’s just internet-based research. It doesn’t take into account your person and where they are. Another drawback is the risk of sounding basic; like everybody else. AI content is typically based on whatever is currently trending on Google and Yahoo. It can be politically biased or polarizing. Please be mindful of this.
Does Using ChatGPT Remove YOU From Your Business?
Honestly, I’m perfectly fine without it; it’s more of a curiosity thing for me. I don’t currently intend to use it at a deeper level. I’ll never say never but for right now, I feel really great about the way we run this business using a lot of content from my heart combined with the methods I teach with authenticity, vulnerability, and story-telling. That can’t be replicated or duplicated.
When people decide to spend money with you, they do so because they like YOU! Yes, it’s about the method you teach. Yes, it’s about how you show up in the world. At the end of the day, if they laugh with you, and connect with you, they know you get where they’ve been, and they trust you, they’re going to buy from you. If you’re using AI, you’re not going to have that empathetic connection with people.
To sum up, the best use of AI is to supplement your creativity: ideas, brainstorming, or research, but not to use it as a replacement for anything you do in your business.
