Are you wondering if, as a Christian, you need to niche down to work with Christian women? In this live coaching session episode, I answered the question ‘Is it necessary to really niche down to Christian women in your podcast?’ In the answer outlined below, we look at what your calling is and how this impacts your decision. We dig into the options available to you if you don’t niche down. I offer tips on how you can glorify God in your podcast and in your coaching without niching down.
Is It Necessary to Niche Down to Christian Women?
A lot of people feel that because we are Christians, we should niche down to Christian listeners with our podcasts. I believe that it is completely between you and God who you talk to. Many of us are not supposed to niche down this much. We are called to be the salt and the light in a secular space. I want all of you to have full permission not to feel guilty or bad that you are not teaching theology or a blatant pillar of faith in your podcast.
1. It is your choice whether you niche down.
The question mark is whether God is asking you to do this. Do you feel His calling to talk about faith on your podcast? For me, my mouth is being opened by the Lord and I cannot stifle it. If you don’t think you are being called but know that some of your listeners are Christians, that’s ok. By not going so deeply into this, we can open the doors for everyone to listen.
Jordan Raynor says many of us are not called to specifically teach the faith aspect just because we are Christians. I can see this with my friend, Chelsi Jo. She is a very strong Christian but she is not called to teach her faith to other women. I think it’s so cool how God is uniquely allowing each of us to hit a segment of his market. He lets us bring in the right people in our own unique, beautiful way.
2. You can still incorporate your faith if you don’t choose to niche down.
A number of my students have done what I am going to share here. It’s given them the coolest testimonies and the most amazing confirmation of where they are supposed to be.
If your listener is Christian or is open to it, you can add a tiny sprinkle around your faith. This does not need to be in a blatant way but with little nuggets, generally about yourself. Let the Holy Spirit guide you on this. It might be something like ‘I was praying with my kids and this happened’. Or ‘In my morning time when I was going through scripture, this one thing stood out to me’.
This tiny sprinkle touches somebody very lightly but it will touch the right people. They might think ‘Oh, she’s a Christian’, and this can open doors for conversations with your listeners. In this way, it doesn’t turn other people away. Your speaking into the microphone is literally the salt and the light in their lives, their homes, and their cars.
3. You can sell and coach from a Christian perspective without niching down to Christian women.
When you are selling your offer, you sell this with all of your heart and soul. This is where you have the opportunity to glorify God as you sell with everything that you have. You truly believe that this is meant for the person who is going to fill out your form. It’s never about the sales. Or about getting the client right now. It’s never about making money. It’s about selling the conviction that this is the answer that they are desperately praying for. And selling the knowledge that you know how to give it to them. All they need to hear is that you believe in it.
Drop into the space of that time in your life when you were where your avatar is. You are offering them a solution, the answer to their prayers. They have this opportunity to sit with you and get the work done. When I think of it this way, it’s like somebody’s breakthrough is my responsibility.
If I don’t sell my offer to my listener with everything that I am and everything that I believe and what I know to be true, I am not doing it for the glory of God. But if I do, I can glorify God in the work that I do. I think about this question in everything that I do: Am I doing it with everything that I am so that I can glorify God?
When it comes to the practical side of your intake form, I would have one tiny little bit at the end. This might say something like ‘I would like to be coached from a Christian perspective’. They can answer yes or no. Depending on the response, you can hone in on that or not.
Niching down can be overwhelming. I always recommend that you talk to one person on your show. This does not necessarily mean she has to be a Christian. You can include your faith in your podcast in other ways. You can glorify God as you touch your listeners gently, building trust and opening doors for further conversation.

The more I get to know my students and the more I participate in masterminds with my peers the more I’m starting to comprehend the overarching problem and prevalence of one, perfectionism, and two, overthinking.
Perfectionism keeps us in a place of constant consumption and learning. Redoing things over and over and thinking that we can’t move forward until they measure up to some elusive standard.
