When I go into my analytics for my podcast, and I look at the top downloaded episodes of all time, it’s consistently episodes that have to do with leaving social media, not wanting to use it anymore and being frustrated with it.

But then when I look at the copy and messaging my audience submits in questionnaires, it’s that they are focused on social media, that you need it to build your audience, and that it will magically start creating revenue.

I will unapologetically stand behind this for as long as it’s true that social media is not the way to grow an online business. It’s a place where you can (if you want) post and re-purpose your podcast and remind people that you have a platform that does build trust, conversion, and makes money – which is your podcast.

But to use social media to make video content and reels, going after the new shiny thing, you are simply chasing a trend where there is far too much saturation and way too many rules for you to be shown and seen. 6 Ways to Grow Your Online Business Without Social Media

1. Email Marketing

Email marketing is so powerful. I know people query if email marketing is dead or should we still send out emails.

Email marketing is the second most powerful way to connect with an audience next to podcasting. It allows you to send people unfiltered content, newsletters, offers, and tips. I call them love notes that will create more trust and build that connection point with your customers.

2. Collaborations

Collaborations or partnerships are a way to connect with other entrepreneurs or business owners who are in your niche or similar niche that you can partner up with. You could maybe do a training in another Facebook group or be a guest on their podcast.

It’s a way to co-create content. You could run a joint sale together or recommend each other’s products or services.

Collaborations are a great way to utilize someone else’s market (and vice versa) to expand your own.

3. Get Back Into Your Local Community

Local events are a great way to build your business. Maybe you could get together with some moms, or do some volunteering, you could go online and find an entrepreneur’s coffee meet-up. At meetup.com there are so many meet-ups and small groups.

Get back to that face-to-face connection and focus on growing those real, authentic relationships.

4. Referral Program

This works well if you already have customers in your business. You could have some clients or students. Offer them a referral program where they can potentially get commission by referring your products or services.

5. SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

The thing I specialize in is podcast SEO. I teach this extensively inside Podcast to Profit because having podcast SEO helps you rank for your show, show up in the search, infuse those search terms and keywords and focus phrases throughout your content, your titles, your show notes, and allows your show to get found in the search, apple search and even Google.

6. Podcasting

Podcasting is evergreen where your content lives on and on. There is no shelf life and it doesn’t expire. There is no algorithm yet that hides your content.

Podcasting allows you to utilize podcast SEO and get seen. It’s short and powerful in order to create connection. Where else can you spend 20 minutes and have a lifelong superfan connect with you? Where else can you put out a 20 minutes episode and reach 4, 000 people instead of the one person that will see you on social media?

It’s scalable and super sustainable and completely passive. Podcasting is amazing. By the way, I don’t even edit my podcast episodes. They are raw and real, fun, and something I can do around my family without having to steal all the extra hours of my week or day. It’s something I am able to do in a couple of hours once a week.

Podcasting is something that has a huge return on your time and creates the most visibility for you, your brand, and your business.
