FULL EPISODE TRANSCRIPTION:
(00:00):
Hey, friends! Welcome to today’s podcast episode. So pumped to have my girl, my former coaching client, Emily Nichols on today.
We did a quick 15-minute power coaching session over in the free Female Christian Entrepreneurship group that I have on Facebook.
Which you can totally join us over there at stefgasscommunity.com and win free coaching, just like this. So much fun.
(00:26):
Just head on over to stefgasscommunity.com. All the details are in there of how you guys can win or earn free coaching. But what Emily and I do today is we really revamp her podcast.
She’s been podcasting for definitely over a year. She has over a hundred hundred thousand downloads at this point, but the fine tuning optimization process, it just truly never ends.
I’ll be honest because you learn more and you grow and you get to know your person even more deeply.
(00:54):
You hear from people that are listening to the show. You have analytics that you can analyze and take a look at what is actually working, what is actually converting.
And then you wanna come back to your podcast and you really wanna take a fresh look and almost comb through your TSO.
(01:10):
Again, your title, the five pillars of your brand, everything that you guys learned in CYC, Clarify Your Calling and PPU Podcast Pro University, and just kind of brush through it again.
So that’s what Emily and I do today. So if you are a podcaster or you have podcasting on your heart, take a listen in.
And kind of get a front-row seat to me and Emily scrubbing her pod and making the changes that we need to make so that she can run after half a million downloads. Let’s do the things.
(03:11):
I just reached a hundred thousand downloads. I’m actually closer to like 110,000 now, but I just shared it on the show this past week.
And we’re doing it big workshop in our Facebook community to kind of celebrate and do some giveaways and stuff. So it’s been really exciting.
And it’s been like a year since we did our big private coaching together.
(03:29):
And when we did that, we totally rebranded, which was super sweaty palms, uncomfortable but it was all so good because the growth has been amazing over the past year, but I feel it’s time as I’ve gotten even more clear on who I help and how I help them.
I feel my tagline and my description needs an update. Just some tweaks to make sure it’s even more clear who I’m helping and how I’m helping them. And I’m kind of wondering how often that should be done.
Is it something I should be looking at and kind of experimenting with along the way too, as far as keywords and such. So just wanted to chat with you about that today.
(04:06):
I love it. Well, first of all, congratulations! That is huge.
(04:10):
Thank you!
(04:10):
Emily, when you go to listennotes.com and you’re gonna find… Have you looked there already to see your ranking in the entire world?
(04:21):
No, I’m nauseous now.
(04:23):
I’m gonna go tell you what it is just a minute, because hearing that you have a hundred thousand downloads, I think that we minimize that, thinking like, oh, when I get to a million, then I’m in the big leagues.
But I want to know that that is not true. Most people give up before 10,000 downloads. And I think very few people ever make it to a hundred thousand because they’re just not sticking with it.
And I’m happy to tell you you’re in the top 2.5% of podcasts in the entire world.
(04:57):
Stop it. Sorry, my dog is licking my toes. Oh my gosh. Thank you for sharing that with me. I don’t think I’ve ever been to that site. I know you’ve mentioned it before, but it just piled it way back here.
(05:11):
So there’s your new marketing is I am a top 2.5% podcast in the world.
(05:16):
Oh my gosh. Yay. That makes me feel really good. Thank you for sharing that.
(05:20):
You’re welcome. I am so excited for you. And as far as your question goes, you wanna update the house, the outside of your podcast stuff once a year at a minimum.
And that doesn’t mean the art, if the art’s still correct, you can leave it, but if the tagline changes, then we’re gonna need to update the art.
So once a year, that’s what I have in my Asana board. It’s an annual task for me. And I usually do it in December. However, if you have insight like, oh man, my person’s constantly using whatever, weight loss and you haven’t been using that word.
And you know this is the word, this is the phrase that they’re just really wanting from me. And I’m gonna rework the tagline, and do that sooner than later because little tweaks like that can be done throughout the year.
(06:08):
I would only do it throughout the year, Emily, if I get a revelation and I’m like, this is their phrase. My people started saying start a business and get more clients. And I’m like, I’m not using those phrases anywhere.
And so I actually went in last month and started updating some keywords. Even though I had just done it, because I didn’t realize this was such a big thing for them. Does that make sense?
(06:33):
Yes. Totally.
(06:34):
So let’s go over and look at your pod and we’ll see what kind of updates we wanna make.
(06:39):
Yeah. I, for sure, wanna start with my tagline. I love my art that Ali made for me.
(06:44):
That is so great.
(06:46):
Ali’s amazing. But I wanna update that tagline, and make it a little bigger so we can read it better. But just as far as the tagline.
Right now, it says redefining self-care with simple fitness, nutrition, and mindset habits for busy working moms, which is still true, but I wanna lead it more with creating sustainable health through habit hacks in a way.
(07:09):
Thank you. So good.
(07:10):
In order to transform. And the main two challenges I hear from my audience, Stef, is time and guilt. I hear it every single day.
And is there a way I can incorporate that without it being too wordy, sustainable health habit hacks for busy working, for working moms to transform time guilt-free or transform their time guilt-free?
I don’t know if that’s too wordy, but you kind of get the gist of what I’m trying to say there? And I know that I can put more in my description and keywords too.
(07:45):
For sure. So we want our tagline to be 10 words or less, I’m obsessed with sustainable health through habit hacks, or, and I almost wonder, does it need to say hacks?
Can we just say through habits, through habits stacking through healthy, sustainable health, through habits, time management? Let me think. Hold on.
(08:08):
Yeah.
(08:09):
Sustainable health through habits.
(08:11):
I almost feel it’s habit strategy, because I feel that’s what I’ve been known for through my clients and folks in the community.
I’m doing a workshop the next three days and they’re like, oh, I’m really looking forward to hearing your habit strategies.
(08:25):
It’s so funny because your clients will label your thing.
(08:30):
Yes. That’s why I’m like, okay, I need to change things.
(08:32):
Yeah. I love it. And remember when you and I met so many years ago and you’re like, no, it’s self-care.
(08:38):
I mean, it’s still there, but it’s through a lens of habit strategy for sure.
(08:43):
It is Emily, but this outcome of her doing these things that she’s labeling habits, time management. So if we have sustainable health through habit strategy, that’s five words.
We have way more to play with here. So, sustainable health through habit strategy. Do you like time management and is that what you’re actually doing?
(09:05):
What we’re creating is a sustainable health plan, but in not a lot of time and doing it guilt-free.
(09:12):
Sustainable health through habit strategies,
(09:18):
I feel the word transform has to be in there as well. Here’s your outcome, transform your time guilt-free.
(09:26):
Yeah. But it’s not transform their time. They’re transforming their health.
(09:30):
Transform their health.
(09:31):
That transform needs to be in it because it’s in your title.
(09:34):
Yeah. I bring it up every episode.
(09:38):
Exactly. And really this outcome is the sustainability of the health and the way you’re getting her there is the habits. And I like the guilt free. What is she guilty about though, for taking the time?
(09:51):
Does it need to say for working moms?
(09:54):
Let’s see how long this is? 10. Nope. There it is. So there’s the new tag. And then what I would do though, is put, and let’s get rid of busy. Everyone’s busy.
I’ve learned a lot about using that and being overwhelmed and busy, and that those are actually not helping us, which is interesting. So we’ll cut that out and let’s just put in your keywords at the top, Emily.
We’ll add in working mom up there. We also need, let’s take a look at these. We have healthy habits, fitness tips, whole 30, self-care, easy meal prep, weight loss, at-home workouts, mindset.
What of these Emily, no longer is a search term resonating with your girl?
(10:44):
Whole 30, definitely still is. I get a lot of folks coming from whole 30. We could probably get rid of mindset.
Cause I feel that word is overused as well too. I feel healthy habits, fitness tips, whole 30, self-care, working mom, weight loss.
I mean, most of ’em are still I think, whereas that they are definitely searching for, maybe more so time management or scheduling hacks or something along that line.
(11:13):
Good. So maybe we can just get rid of mindset and put in time management. Actually, we need working moms here too now.
So you may not have space for both but we wanna grab working moms in the keywords up there since we took it out of your tag. So let’s replace mindset with working moms.
And then is she really Googling self-care? I mean, is she really typing that in? And you can tell me yes if she is.
(11:37):
I don’t know. I feel my audience they’re so verse in me talking about it. So I feel like they’re using that in their vocabulary, but I don’t know if at the beginning of their journey if that’s what they’re searching for though.
(11:51):
We know they’re searching for time management.
(11:53):
For sure.
(11:54):
Let’s replace those too. We are not getting rid of self-care from your brand because I want you to think about this as you’re casting a net.
The only way we cast a net is by you having a word that they are typing in, you catch a fish and then you train your fish, you train your fish in the new vocabulary.
You train your fish in the way you want them to go. But if we don’t catch the fish, we’re missing two or three fish that never used that phrase. And so same for me. I’m like start a podcast.
I’m so much more than this. But, it doesn’t matter if this is a not about me. And so I had to have a really hard moment with myself recently about going back to where she’s actually starting.
And the things that she’s actually searching for, even though those don’t really resonate with me, I’m like I have to get the fish. So I hope that that sits with you.
(12:50):
Totally.
(12:51):
All right.
(12:52):
There’s a lot there.
(12:55):
So, Hey mama. I know what it feels like to be busy, overwhelmed, and stressed while working and taking care of everyone else, but yourself and the way it makes you feel, not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally.
You know it’s time to make a change in your life and to say yes to yourself, but it feels so hard. Right here, this is a little bit the old brand.
(13:18):
It’s totally all the old stuff.
(13:20):
So this first section here, that’s where we wanna tell this woman what she wants to hear and what she’s going through right now because we gotta get her to keep reading.
So here, Emily is where you’re gonna say, I know what it feels like to keep failing on your health goals, to make zero traction in your fitness and to have zero habits and routines around wellness, play with that.
(13:46):
And you’re gonna have to re-listen to this. Then we say, You know it’s time to make a change in your life and say yes to your health, but it feels so hard.
There aren’t enough hours in the day and you feel guilty when you do take time for yourself. But you know you need a massive transformation, not only with your body but your mind too.
You can’t keep pouring from an empty cup, but where to start? the rest of that is great. Space it out more cuz if I have to look at a paragraph, I’m not gonna read it.
So make them two sentences max, and then put a break in there.
(14:22):
This next one. You’ve already tried everything and nothing’s worked for you. Don’t worry, friend. I get it. Now let’s bring it back to the solutions. So, don’t worry. I get it.
That’s why I am known for simple, sustainable health through habit, strategy, habit hacking, and simple time routines that’re gonna transform the way you fit in health into your daily life.
(14:51):
Then we say I’m also a busy working boy mom and wife. I used to put everyone else first, and felt physically and emotionally during every day until I began these simple systems myself.
When I first started taking care of myself, starting with nutrition, it snowballed into moving my body. And then even more importantly, me a huge mindset transformation rooted in deeper faith.
Before I knew it, I developed my own simple, sustainable healthcare method that has helped me transform into a wife, mom and friend.
(15:20):
Right here before I knew it, I developed my own simple, sustainable healthcare method that I teach you inside of this podcast and self transformed you.
Next paragraph. It’s time to cut through the countless and overwhelming Google searches you’ve done.
Stop comparing yourself to other working mamas. Right here, this is where I would connect with her in this paragraph.
It’s time to stop yoyo dieting, giving up on yourself, feeling frustrated with your lack of time to work out, not having any idea what to eat, and also having zero time for self-care.
It’s time to simplify this with the easy steps you can start implementing now. The rest of this is good.
(16:08):
Last one. Get rid of this paragraph. We already said that. I like this. So along with my simple habit hacks, habit strategy, time management, systems, and sustainable self-care.
You’ll hear from inspiring guests and myself who will educate, motivate, pour into you with practical self-care tips that are easy, food freedom, nutrition, guidance, whole 30 tips.
All of that’s fine. Lastly, Friend, I wanna give you these tools to help you start redefining your own version of sustainable health to begin your own transformation from the inside out.
Done. Beautiful. We have a link. These two links can be clickable, Emily, if you put the whole thing.
(16:52):
Okay.
(16:53):
Add those. And then I also wanna see self transform you, link in here if someone wants to buy the course.
(16:59):
Yeah.
(17:00):
Good. Yeah, that’s it. So, and while this is long, it’s okay that it’s long because somebody may have what they want from you in the first three sentences.
And then you may have those people who are very analytical and they’re gonna read this whole thing and go to your website before they come to decide to listen to you.
So this it’s okay that these are long and all-encompassing, just space them so that it’s easy reading.
(17:23):
Got it. And I was thinking like, oh, all the keywords is possible in this description. Is that searchable within the description too? Or not?
(17:31):
It’s searchable a little bit.
(17:33):
A little bit. Okay.
(17:34):
But it’s mostly searchable on Yahoo and Google. So, the things that are immediately searchable and here are of course our title and our keywords, all of your titles up here.
These titles and then these descriptions sometimes I’ll pop up with something in my description, but it’s like random but these are totally searchable in the online searches.
(17:57):
One last question. Since I’m switching up my tagline, do you think it would be a good idea to switch out my cover art just for someone to be like, Ooh, what changed?
(18:05):
No. Your cover art is really …
(18:09):
Okay. So great.
(18:10):
The only reason I would change your art is if it wasn’t professionally branded, which it is, or if you wanted to change the tagline.
Or if you got new branding photos that you were obsessed with. Other than that, I think it’s so great. And I wouldn’t touch it.
(18:24):
Okay, great. This was super helpful. I started digging into it last week and I knew this call was coming. I was like, I should just wait.
(18:33):
Awesome. Well, love, thank you. It was so good to hear from you. I’m excited for your growth. Go make those changes and keep me posted on when you hit that top 1% and top 0.5%. I’ll be here for it.
(18:46):
Let’s go.
(18:47):
