I get it! It is so scary to do something that you’ve never done before. You’re thinking you might be ready to start a podcast, but you’re worried about what people will think, struggling to believe it will actually work to grow your business, and wondering how in the world you’ll actually DO a podcast. Well after three and a half years of building my own business using a podcast (versus the other methods I tried for years) lemme tell you, podcasting is way easier and makes me way better money than the other more traditional methods of building an online business.
Thinking about starting a podcast? 5 Ways to Know if it’s time.
1. If you’re sick of social media, it’s time to start a podcast as your main business growth strategy
Social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok (or whatever new platforms come out) are exhausting and hard to keep up with.
You can easily spend hours a day creating content to keep the platform happy and just feel like you’re on a hamster wheel.
Social media is really a game that you have to pay to play or hustle super hard to get any visibility.
Building your business on social media is building your business on someone else’s terms.
Even if social media is getting you “views” or exposure, if it’s not putting money in your bank account, is it worth your time?
At the end of the day, you want to work smarter, not harder. You want something that will work for you and not the other way around. Check out my podcast episode on why Social Media is Dead!
2. If you want to own your content no matter what business you own, now is the time to start a podcast
You can be in a networking marketing business, but without owning your content, all your hard work can disappear overnight.
You don’t want all of your eggs in one basket.
If you own your own content via a podcast, your income, leads, and followers are still yours.
An audience that knows, likes, and trusts you will follow you no matter what you’re doing. You can grow and evolve and they will stay with you because of your show.
I cannot stress enough the importance of owning the rights to your own content! I made the mistake of spending my time and effort building someone else’s business and then losing it all, and I don’t want that for you!
3. You love the idea of audio instead of video as a business growth strategy
If you don’t have the ability, or desire, to do your hair and makeup, plus a cute background, and uninterrupted time to film, then podcasting is a way better fit for you than video.
Going live on FB and IG can feel really weird, awkward, and inauthentic for a lot of us.
Maybe you have kids at home and they like to run through your videos, causing you to start over and over again.
The tech and time requirement for filming is daunting.
Starting a podcast is as simple as talking into a microphone. No hair, makeup, or cute background is required. It’s easy to pause and restart if you need a drink of water or your kids are home and need something. Editing is a breeze, and it’s easy to integrate into your everyday life!
4. When you think about starting a podcast, you can envision your listeners
You know your listeners are not sitting around watching youtube, Facebook lives, or Instagram all day.
They have lives they are living. They are doing dishes, commuting to and from work, or walking their dogs around the neighborhood, and you know that you can be part of that time with them.
You can more easily imagine that you are speaking directly to them, whereas with video, it’s awkward staring at a screen to make sure they feel your connection.

5. You know exactly what you want to share with your listeners when you start your podcast
You may not have all of the details figured out, but you know the topic is pressing on your heart.
You’re passionate about making the world a better place by sharing that topic.
You can spend literally hours talking about all of the solutions to their problems.
