Are you a podcaster or are you planning to start a podcast soon? Do you desire to make money from your podcast or use it to grow your business? If you said yes to either question, there are six crucial areas of your show that you must set up the right way for ultimate podcast success. Building a foundation for your podcast is crucial to the success of your show. In this post, I’m covering these six areas that will help you monetize, sell and scale while keeping God front and center in your business.
6 Components to Building a Foundation That Sets You up for Greater Podcast Success
The key to your ultimate podcast success is setting your show up to work for you. By focusing on building a foundation that helps you get found organically, you won’t have to pour yourself into social media or work 24/7. That would never feel good or glorify God! Audit your podcast and clean up any of these six areas of focus to strengthen your podcast foundation.
1. Your podcast title is the most important key to organic podcast success.
Make sure it is searchable (no weird sayings or differently-spelled words to be cute).
It needs to be targeted toward your specific niche market.
Use four words or less.
You will not grow with a fluffy title. You need to be specific so anyone coming across your podcast name will know if it’s for them immediately. Once you have hit 500,000 to 750,000 podcast downloads, then you are free to rebrand to any name you want, including your own name. But, you have to earn that right first by getting found naturally with a name that makes it obvious what you are about and who you serve.
2. Your podcast tagline is critical to building a foundation for all of your future podcast content.
It must be a Tactical, Specific Outcome (TSO). This means your tagline tells your podcast listeners what solutions they will receive by listening to your show.
It should be stated in ten words or less.
Do not use any fillers or emotional words. Get straight to the point.
It should only solve one problem or provide one promise.
3. Your podcast cover art can make or break your podcast’s success!
You must have professional podcast art! It’s easy to tell when art is created with Canva.
This is not the area to save money. Choose to invest around $75, which will give you a huge ROI in the long run.
This one area could make or break 100,000+ podcast downloads for you. Think of it like the cover of your new best-selling book.
You have 2-3 seconds for a new listener to decide to click on your show.
It should be nice and clean with just your name, your show’s name, and your tagline. That’s all!
4. Your podcast description should speak to your target audience.
Write this directly in your podcast hosting software.
Speak to their main problems and pain points.
Include what you provide as a solution or promise.
Make it as long as you need to get these points across.
5. Keywords for SEO (search engine optimization) increase your podcast success through search engines.
6. Getting to know your avatar deeply is crucial for building a foundation that attracts the right listeners.
Learn all of the characteristics of your ideal client.
Get to know them personally on a deep level.
Learn their thoughts, dreams, desires, goals, pain points, and what’s holding them back.
Identify what they need that you can solve.
Make sure you are speaking to who you were two steps ago rather than who you are now or who you want to become. You must have already walked through the solution you are providing.
