I have a fun conversation for you: a deep dive with LaDondra Hervey, where she and I discuss the one core thing we’re called to do: create a legacy for our children that is rooted in Kingdom focus. Specifically, we’re talking about creating generational wealth for your children and their children.
While that topic may feel big and daunting, LaDondra does a beautiful job of explaining how she reached that result and the fantastic method she created—her CODES method—that helped her achieve this place and make that generational wealth in God’s way.
Who is LaDondra Hervey?
LaDondra Hervey is an award-winning author with over 20 years of experience as a change agent for multiple generations. She supports women in creating purpose-driven businesses, breaking generational cycles of stagnation, and elevating their faith to create a legacy of freedom and financial overflow.
Stef: Welcome, my friend, LaDondra. I’m excited to have you on the podcast!
LaDondra: Hey Stef, it’s an honor to be here. So excited about today’s interview!
Stef: We met when I was featured on one of your impressive summits. We both connected over our Kingdom vision and that passionate, Holy Spirit-led energy. I love that and wanted you to come on and teach about the giftings you have.
Start us off by describing who you are and what you do.
LaDondra: I am a faith-based business coach, and I have the unique honor of helping women run Kingdom enterprises step into their God-given purpose and leave a lasting legacy. We help our clients take their business from purpose to profit and beyond, creating a legacy using our generational wealth CODES method.
Stef: When you say ‘legacy impact,’ what does that mean to you?
LaDondra: Legacy impact has to do with tapping into the eternal, building something that’s going to outlive the lives we’re living on Earth. The Bible tells us to create something for our children’s children.
How Did LaDondra Discover Her Kingdom Calling?
Stef: That feels incredible when you say that. But for the listener who feels like that’s really big and far away, take us on a journey of when you didn’t know what your audacious, Kingdom-led calling was. How did you walk into this space of learning?
LaDondra: It can feel audacious. Let me share a little of my story. I grew up with drug abuse, alcoholism, and prison recidivism. My grandmother has seven kids, and of them, there was some type of addiction with all but one.
Being the oldest in my family, I told myself that I’d break the generational cycle. I would see them as these talented people and would wonder why they weren’t doing anything with their gifts. Why were they stuck?
As I got older, I thought I’d break the generational cycle by becoming an attorney and helping my uncle get out of jail. I started working in an attorney’s office and discovered that it was not my path.
As I kept trying on different things, people asked for advice. I started to see that advice was transforming their lives, and I realized I’m good at encouraging others and strategizing.
Anyone wondering how to create a legacy should start with daily decisions and being obedient, one step at a time. You may have a Moses moment when you ask God what’s happening. To make an impact on that legacy, you start by taking one step at a time.
Trust God and allow Him to reveal His plans and purpose to you.
Stef: I love that you talk about following breadcrumbs because that’s exactly how I’d identify them. “Is that from God? I think I’ll take a step.” Then, move forward and take another step.
LaDondra’s Journey From Law to Creating a Legacy
Stef: What happened to go from being an attorney to doing what you do today? Did the opportunity just come knocking at your door?
LaDondra: I moved from the attorney’s office to banking. While I was in banking, I was also pursuing my degree in social work. God had already told me I wasn’t going to be a traditional social worker.
While I was finishing, my husband started his business, and I helped him. I began to see him take off with the strategies I was applying. Then, I began helping friends. It occurred to me that I have a knack for this.
I was on a journey of self-discovery, but one particular book discussed the coaching world. I decided to attend a coaching program in Tennessee and dragged my husband along. It opened my eyes to see the whole coaching world and what it had to offer. I could see that there was a path forward with the clients I already had to create a monetizable business.
Stef: I love how God works in all those little details! It all comes together in this one pivotal moment, and you realize what you do. It feels great to get to that place finally. Sometimes it takes a decade or more to put those puzzle pieces together and get that clarity ultimately.
Where Did the CODES Method Come From?
Stef: I know you have a specific method, and I’d love to talk about it. It’s the CODES method. Tell us how you discovered you even had a technique.
So many listeners and students start their podcasts, and we figure out what their one thing is, and then we create something. That’s what a method is: it’s your secret sauce, your gift to the world, and one core offer. You begin with this one thing, and that’s going to help people find breakthroughs.
How did you figure out yours was the CODES method? Please tell us about it.
LaDondra: In trying to figure this out, I was in all different environments, and I found myself trying to conform to fit. Being around many older, seasoned entrepreneurs taught me to look at success and replicate it. I thought, ‘They have it figured out, so I should do what they do. ‘
I started to lose myself, feel unfulfilled, and feel lost. I’m usually very vibrant and know what I want. I had to get back into alignment with Father God’s heart. As I did this, I noticed some patterns. I realized there were a lot of other people conforming to fit, getting caught up in people-pleasing and perfectionism.
Who would they be if they knew who they were?
The Lord revealed some steps that I was already using, but hadn’t connected the pieces. I was just throwing on a little bit of this and a little bit of that. He showed me that some codes allow you to tap into that generational wealth and do it God’s way.
What is the CODES Method?
C—is tapping into your Creativity, into our supernatural, God-given gifts. We often think that wealth comes from outside of us, but really, it comes from within. You have to peel the onion to discover the gifts.
O—is tapping into your Operations and creating an infrastructure to ensure your dreams survive in the right environment. Often, we try to do everything: people-pleasing or performing. That’s when our gifts are not in the right environment. Part of the infrastructure is tapping into your signature method.
D—is about Dominion, tapping into your brand authority with God-confidence. We are trying to recreate experiences others are called to create instead of tapping into the brand authority God has called us to experience and the people we’ve been called to serve. We are not assigned to everybody, but we are assigned to somebody.
E—is Expansion. People want to do everything: a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and they’re all over the board. Instead, narrowing your focus on one thing creates acceleration in your life and business. Acceleration allows you to tap into another layer of freedom in your identity and finances.
S—is Scale, tapping into the law of reaping and sowing, creating a multiplication effect. What have you already built, and how can you multiply that? If you’ve been doing one-on-one coaching, maybe turn it into a course or certification program.
Perhaps you want to scale by building your team. It’s unique to every person. You want to do things in order. God is a God of order. If you try to scale before you end the growth stage, you’re doing things out of order and confusing your business.
Focus on One Thing at a Time
Stef: I can see many of these pieces. You’ll have one locked in, but not the other. When you cultivate, grow, and are willing to fail forward, step out in faith, invest in yourself, and let go enough to focus on the one (person, idea, and offer), that’s where you begin to unlock each of these letters.
Creativity may be the one thing you’re great at, but you don’t have operations down. You’re not going to reach generational wealth until you get each of these locked in.
Is it one at a time that you’re getting cleaned up, and then you move to the next phase? Is that the experience you’ve had?
LaDondra: Absolutely! It has to be done one at a time because anything else will overwhelm you. You’ll shut yourself down before you even get started. You’re lacking clarity if you start moving too fast. You get into a cycle of burnout. You’re trying to do everything that’s out of order.
Stef: I hear people who say they’re ready to scale when they don’t have everything in place. Back up and be okay with where you are. Start with creativity. How are you going to reach and touch people? Get your house in order with operations. Then, take additional steps.
My pause point is to think about which of the letters – CODES – you have locked and which you’re working on now. What’s the next right step?
God will give you the next right step, and when you take it, you’ll get the next one. The entire roadmap is available, but it will take time, and you’ll need to be okay with that.
LaDondra: Absolutely. Trust God and partner with Him. Stay in alignment with your assignment.
Surround yourself with people who can call you higher.
What Should You Do When You Face Challenges?
Stef: My listeners are in the early stages of trying to figure out how to turn this calling into a business.
The enemy comes at us with all kinds of distractions. What misconceptions, myths, or challenges do you see these women facing? How do they prepare for them?
LaDondra: Don’t try to follow the world’s way. Stay in alignment with the Word. The Word will help you be anchored and build a solid foundation in your business. Stay true to your God-given gifts and the assignment He has put in your hands.
Don’t leave your job until God has permitted you to walk on that water. When he does give you that permission, don’t take it for granted. Go all in. Don’t get out there and let fear take you out.
Some misconceptions are that it’s going to be easy or that you’ll be successful in 90 days. Maybe, maybe not. But make sure you’re developing yourself one step at a time.
Wealth flows from the inside out. When you are wealthy from the inside out, you create a legacy in your life, your marriage, and your health.
Stef: I believe in everything you just said. I want to get a printout and hang it in my office, “Don’t follow the world. Follow the Word!” We have the world’s way, and we have God’s way.
What Should Your First Step Be to Create Your Legacy?
Stef: What is the first step for people who hear us and believe there’s an assignment for them and that generational wealth is possible? How do they begin walking through the CODES method?
LaDondra: My answer is: Get still.
“Be still and know that God is God.”
When you can get still, you can hear. When you can listen to him, he will reveal things you may not have noticed you’re great at or have suppressed.
“God, what do you see? Show me my gifts.”
If you ask, He will show you.
Next, you can ask trusted friends and family members what they see you naturally doing in serving others and doing it with excellence. Document the answers.
What is it that brings you much joy and fulfillment? That’s your passion, and it’s linked to your gifts and talents. Then, ask if it’s your business. Sometimes, it’s just a passion, but decide if it’s something you want to take to the marketplace.
Then, start taking action – one step at a time. If you’re just beginning, free is okay. Put a limit on free, but it’s okay to develop yourself and your skills, and get testimonials. Start where you are, and don’t despise small beginnings.
Stef: Amazing! I just love how beautifully God works with all His daughters in leadership. So many of your messages are things I say, too. I love how He works like that.
What did you hear today that gave you Holy Spirit goosebumps, and you knew was for you? Write that down and circle it. Then implement the one thing God spoke to you today.
Stef: You’ve launched your podcast; what’s happening with that?
LaDondra: Yes! Stef Gass’s program is the bomb! I took Podcast Pro University and implemented its system in two weeks. We launched the Gifted Entrepreneur Show in June and are now a top-two podcast. I help you build the generational wealth to create the legacy you were created to create.
Stef: I’m so grateful you took a minute to talk about the course. Friends, if you want to start that podcast, you know what to do. Go, invest in yourself, and get it done.
We are here to do Kingdom work, and it’s something we believe in for you too.
I pray this blesses you!
