Are you struggling with mom guilt? Do you have phone dependency because of your business and do you struggle to put your phone down? It’s time to sit and have some mom time. Jeanette Tapley and I are bringing you some ways to find freedom from your phone dependency and to let go of that mom guilt so you can thrive in every area God is calling you to.
Eliminate Mom Guilt and Phone Dependency as a Working Mom
What are some hard things about being a working mom?
Heaven forbid we like what we do! There is a guilt we can feel about being pulled in all different directions.
Thoughts of “I have to work” or “I have to make money.”
Being away from family or having to focus on work while we are home with our kids.
How are you showing up right now and is that what God says about you as a mom and as a businesswoman? That is how you debunk the lies. Sometimes you will be right where you need to be, but sometimes you will need to make a tweak.
Go high level
What season are you in currently and what does the next one look like?
Inventory often
The enemy can use what you have been created for to pull you away from other things.
How much time do you have invested in the family and are you able to withdraw time during the busy work season so you don’t have all the mom guilt?
Pour in, pour out, or pull back.
Guilt and shame are not from the Lord. Anticipate the time to plug back in. If you feel like you should do something, then you need to inventory that feeling. Where is that feeling coming from? The internet? An outside source? Your kids or your husband? Make pivots if you need to but don’t let it be your be-all, end-all of what your life needs to look like. It could damage the season you are currently in.
A piece of us feels like we need to be accessible all the time but It’s ok for an email to sit in the inbox for 24 hours before it gets a response.
Ask yourself these questions:
Why can’t you put your phone down for a certain length of time?
Challenge: For 30 days, for 2 intentional hours a day when all your loved ones are home or you know where they are, put your phone down.
Where are the high connection points of your day? During the high touch points, make sure the phones aren’t around. This is a great way to start.
Why are you sorry you aren’t instantly accessible?
Reset expectations with clients or others if you need to.
With any addiction or idol in our life, we have to break up with it first in order to come back with fresh boundaries and a fresh vision. Everything can be used for good, but it can also become too much.
What boundaries do you set around your phone and work?
We don’t use social media on a personal level or in business anymore except the community Facebook group and sharing the podcast.
Set boundaries and limits on communication during specific work hours and make sure everyone on the team knows.
Can you do what you need for your business on a computer instead of a phone?
Have a strict time limit on social media if you use it, and delete apps if you need more discipline.
As working moms, if we were to drop the guilt, we would be looking at our children and realizing the example we are setting for them. What if you weren’t working and pursuing the call God created you for? There is a piece of you that needs this because it’s what you were made for. You were also made to be a mama, and you were made for the other pieces of who you are as well. You were not made for just one thing, you have to rise into this authority that you are a powerful woman of God who works for His glory every single day AND you also parent for His glory.
I pray that God will help you navigate what everything looks like. He will show you the perfect blend. He is with you through the work, He is with you through what you are struggling with. Turn to Him, seek His answers and let the rest go.
