It feels like things are scary in the world now, and we are living in a time of real economic uncertainty. We have so many questions, and the world seems worse than it has potentially been before. The reality is that we don’t know for sure what is happening. We know that we are in the end times, and the Lord created you for a time such as this! He has appointed us to be here for whatever time we will be here.
My take on this is to buckle in and go for it. Let’s not sit in a mindset of fear but lean into our faith. Let’s be discerning about the calling we feel in our hearts, whether to start a business, pivot our business, or start a podcast.
As bad as things are, this isn’t the first time the world has gone wild. We have experienced the Great Depression from 1929 to 1939 and the stock market crash. The .com bubble burst in the early 2000s. We experienced the global financial crisis, which caused chaos. And then, of course, most recently, we have gone through, and maybe are still going through, the craziness of COVID!
Successful Ventures During Times of Economic Uncertainty
While there have been people in each of these scenarios who have decided that this is it and our time is up, there have also been lots of entrepreneurial success stories and business breakthroughs during economic uncertainty. For example, General Electric was established in 1892 during the economic recession of 1893. And then we have Microsoft founded by Bill Gates and Peter Allen in 1975, during a recession. Through their innovative software, they navigated the market and have achieved remarkable success.
How about Airbnb, which launched in 2008 during the global financial crisis? And WhatsApp, which was founded in 2009 right after the 2008 financial crisis? And then there was also Groupon, which was founded in 2008.
Lean in and Dig In Until the Trumpets Sound
My point is that bad things happen. And I believe smart people lean into their faith and dig in during these times. We can get scared, shrink back, and play small because we don’t know what will happen. Or we can go all in. We can rise up and have authority and step out in confidence, knowing that God has placed us here on purpose, even though hard things are going on in the world or our lives.
We are here on purpose, with a purpose, for a purpose. How can we lean into this during economic uncertainty? Many people are sitting on the sideline worrying right now. But there is massive success to be had even amidst what is happening worldwide. And until I hear those trumpets, I will lean in, pour out, and go hard while still living in peace, presence, and balance. I will be completely sold out for the call of the Holy Spirit and God’s plan and provision for my life while I have it.
Maybe while you read this, you, too, are called for such a time as this. It might feel a little bit scary to lean into the unknown. But it’s a lot more exciting to let go, surrender, and trust Him fully. The fun of leaning in, trusting, and being led by God is so much bigger than the fear of sitting on the sidelines waiting and wondering.
Why Times of Economic Uncertainty Can Mean Success for Your Business or Podcast
Today, I want to discuss four reasons why I believe it is a great time for us to ‘lean in,’ especially during economic uncertainty. These are reasons to start or elevate your business, start your podcast, or take whatever you are doing to the next level.
1. Low Barrier to Entry and Low Cost
I know many people on Instagram who have over 100,000 followers but make less than $1,000 a month. I think this is ridiculous. Why sell your soul and spend all these hours building a platform that doesn’t convert?
When people are scrolling, they are not in the mindset to purchase. All clients I know who have grown their business on Instagram have used podcasting as a supplement or their number one method of growing their online business.
So the way that I teach you how to start a business is through podcasting. The reason that I teach like this is because it costs about $9 a month to podcast. It is so easy! I teach you how to use equipment that costs less than $100 and how to do all the work and editing yourself.
Podcasting grows your business
You can podcast in less time than you are wasting on social media. It is possible to give up all these methods of wasting your time and exchange them for something that grows your business and has no shelf life.
You get to be out there in the world online, being searched for and found through podcast SEO, growing the trust, and scaling your business while making a difference all at the same time. There is no reason to wait three years to get going or save up $3000 for fancy equipment. You can start a podcast from your phone tomorrow.
But WAIT! Don’t do that because I want you to have a strategy. I want you to know how to do it right. It is such an easy way to get started, but lots of people do it because it’s easy. What they lack, though, is consistency. They lack confidence. They lack the strategy of utilizing podcasting to make an audience come to you, make leads knock on your door, and actually convert traffic into sales.
Podcasting is super simple and accessible and it requires a really low investment. And in this time of economic uncertainty, I know we don’t want to put a ton of money out. This is a great way to start a business that has a strong foundation without having to invest a whole lot of money.
2. You Get to Inspire and Strengthen People
This is the time I believe that we are called as Christians, whether you are in ministry or the marketplace, to inspire and strengthen people. A podcast is such fun. Whatever your business, it is a phenomenal way for you to connect with other people, to share the good news with whatever it is God has blessed you with. It may be your testimony or your trials. It may be your triumphs or the things that you teach. I believe that now more than ever, the light and the salt are needed to reach all of these different areas where darkness is prevailing. We need to step up and shine. And an easy, beautiful way to do that is through podcasting.
I find it mind-blowing that my voice is heard globally. I have listeners in all these countries that I wouldn’t have if I were trying to grow my business on social media or one-on-one in the DMs.
This way has infinite reach and is completely organic. It allows you to be that salt and light. You can share your heart, and you can strengthen not only other people through your words, your voice, and your message but also your walk with Christ, growing your confidence to be a vessel for others.
When I look at my journey, I have had emails from people who came to Christ because of something I said on my podcast. And I know that without me doing this work, there wouldn’t be thousands of new podcasts in the world making a difference. There wouldn’t be people who have reached six or seven figures who can give and tithe and serve in a large Kingdom capacity.
We become vessels for others through a podcast to help others at their time of need.
3. Time Is Going to Pass Anyway
Time is already passing. Every day, every hour, every minute that you sit by and wonder if you should start now or do it later is a minute that you are wasting. Time here is so fleeting. Why not spend it pursuing our God dreams? Would you be able to make a difference? Be a light in someone’s life. We can live lives of excellence through the power of Jesus Christ. This includes not only using our time wisely but also using it in a capacity that allows us actually to grow our purpose.
I think that if you are listening to me, you have a call on your life in business or ministry, and you are trying to grow your message. You are trying to get out there and build an audience. You want to be financially full so that you can be somebody who gives and serves and brings favor and creates a ripple effect. If that is the case, the time is now. If anything, you should feel even more urgency to get started because of the economic uncertainty of our time.
4. Step Out in Faith
As believers, we step out of our comfort zones in faith and trust in Him, believing that God is a Waymaker and will do wonders in our lives. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “We walk by faith, not by sight.” If you look around, you will do nothing. You’ll say it’s too broken, too far gone, too scary out there, and too much opposition.
Your sight will always lie to you, constantly leading you back to your safety zone. Instead, we want to walk by faith, allow God to be the one we chase after, and let the Holy Spirit make the decisions for us.
When you launch a podcast, you truly trust in the Lord’s hands. Is it going to fail or be awful? Is someone going to make fun of it? I don’t know, but I do know that you did it. You tried.
Moving forward is obedience
It is going to be hard. But it is going to be worth it. You are going to gain skills, and you are going to get better and better. The only way you will grow into this dream and this future vision that you have of yourself and what is possible is by taking the first step. Open your mouth, and He will fill it. Go to scripture and look at all the promises and ways in which God helps you prevail even though your mind wants you to believe you will not succeed.
Another thing is obedience. Even though you don’t know the way or outcome, moving forward is obedience. It’s believing that God will lay the path beneath your feet and that you are capable and qualified to do what He calls you to do.
This Time of Economic Uncertainty Might Be the Best Time to Start
In conclusion, I believe that there has never been a better time for you to start. Why not now? Why not you? It is low cost. It’s an opportunity to inspire, to deepen not only other people’s walk but your own walk with Christ. To believe in yourself at a higher capacity and to create something that has a stable foundation in a very uncertain economy.
Go out and be the salt and the light in whatever you do. And be obedient to believing that God has favor over this venture in your life.
And one last thing. Taking a look at all the people who have gone before us that have had success even during really hard times shows us that if they can do it, we can too!
May God pour out His confidence and His excited anticipation over what is possible for you and your business. I pray for anything coming against you to be crushed in the name of Jesus. That the path would be clear and open for you. That you would have belief in your heart that the Holy Spirit would direct you and lead you forward and give you the first step. That you would close your eyes, head down, believing that He will get you exactly where you need to go. I pray confidence and favor over you. I believe in you and I ask that God be with you on this journey. Amen.
