Are you ready to start and grow your business, have more balance and time for the things that matter (like your family), and make an impact? Wanting to have a successful podcast? Tired of showing up on all the platforms only to succeed at none of them? I have so much amazing stuff I can’t wait to share with you because I believe in you.
More importantly, I believe in the calling God has placed on your life. Over the years, I’ve seen what is possible when I’m completely surrendered to Him, not just in the convenient areas of my life, but in every area of my life. This includes my business, motherhood, marriage, and health. And I want the same for you.
My hope is that you’ll keep God at the center of all your business decisions. I’m here to help you grow a Kingdom-centered business, which means it’s going to get real. And when it gets real, it gets hard. But when it gets hard, it’s often successful if we can stay dedicated, disciplined, and focused. And we do it because it’s worth it to do business with God and for God, all in alignment with His will.
Building a business shouldn’t constantly feel stressful. It can be hard at times, but it’s possible for your business to be characterized by peace and joy. You can leave behind the social media grind, and instead grow a successful podcast that will be the vessel you use to convert listeners, make more money, and expand your business.
Note: We do a deep dive of these 5 things in my group mastermind Podcast to Profit, so if you find this blog helpful and want to dig in even more, be sure to get your application in!
#1 – A Successful Podcast Does Market Research
Every year our business does a market research project. A successful podcast requires you to know what your listeners want, need, desire, struggle with, have mental roadblocks around, etc. You need to know the depths of their heart, mind, and beliefs.
An intimate knowledge of your listeners will unlock your success. It’s the key to having 10k months, 100k business, a million dollar business. There is no free pass here – you have to put in the work to do the market research.
You need to interview 5 people at a minimum and ask them intentional questions around their wants and needs.
There is a whole module in Podcast to Profit where I walk you through how to gather quality market research. From there, we dissect it down to the top keywords, which become your podcast SEO, brand SEO, and verbiage that will help you convert. You’ll want to do this research every year to ensure your content is speaking to your current audience.
#2 – A Successful Podcast Updates the Podcast SEO & Keywords
Using your market research, you can optimize your SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This allows your podcast to be found when someone searches your keywords on a browser or podcast platform.
You can utilize SEO in your podcast titles and descriptions, your website, and all over your online presence.
We do this every year because the words people use change. For example, remember when we used to say, “spill the beans”? And now it’s “spill the tea.” It might not seem like a major shift, but if your keywords aren’t aligned with the words your intended audience is using, they won’t be able to find your content.
#3 – A Successful Podcast Updates the Podcast Description
A lot of growth and change can happen in a year. You may be surprised at how cringe your description sounds to you now, even though it sounded fine a year ago. It’s not that your previous description was wrong or bad – it’s just time to refresh your description to match where you currently are in your business.
I look back at my different podcast descriptions over the years, and I’m a little embarrassed. Updating podcast descriptions is something we all should do every year. Make sure your description aligns with the current tone and goal of your podcast.
#4 – A Successful Podcast Revises the Podcast Intro & Outro
Your podcast intro and outro might not require major changes every time, but it’s still good to tweak if necessary. Some good questions to ask yourself as you listen are:
Is there anything else I need to say?
Is there anything else I want to say?
Do I want to change my music?
Maybe your outro is fine, but you realize it’d be good to update your intro. While it’s not necessary to re-record every year, be sure you’re at least taking a listen with fresh ears to see if updating anything would be useful.
#5 – A Successful Podcast Does a Deep Dive Into Analytics
This is different from your quick monthly scrub of your analytics (which you should be doing!). Every year, a successful podcaster will really sit with their analytics from various platforms. This includes your:
Podcast host
Facebook group
Pinterest pins
The goal is to figure out what’s not working, so you can stop wasting time. Once you figure out what is working, you want to do more of that in the coming year.
Confession: wasting time is one of my biggest pet peeves. When it comes to my business, I want a clear goal and tasks that will help grow my business, which is why doing a deep dive every year on my analytics is paramount.
As an entrepreneur, you have to get your hands dirty – it comes with the territory. The key is to make sure you’re getting your hands dirty on things that will grow your company. The data we get from analytics helps you objectively look at what you’ve been doing. Then it allows you to adjust, tweak, and focus on the stuff that matters.
