Hey sisters. I thought I would throw this super quick episode up for you about beating the blah. I just sounded like a newscaster, beating the blah with Stefanie Gass. Are you feeling kind of meh, like unmotivated, uninspired, and you just need to get it together, Girl. Me too.
(00:24)
Interestingly, I have had a crazy month or I had a crazy month where I went all in. I launched Podcast to Profit for the second time. I did the promotion to my course, and I also did three episodes a week. Must have lost my mind. I did a bonus every single week and it was just a lot. And I was so, so mentally exhausted that I kind of shut down.
(00:51)
And over this past week and a half of October, I find myself just super unmotivated and super in my head about it as well. So this episode is going to go into how to beat the blah. Sorry, not sorry. And find your motivation. Get reinspired so that you can get to work.
(02:04)
Before we dig into today’s episode, I want to remind you girls that I have a plethora of resources for you over at stefaniegass.com. I have free gifts. I have every single program and software that I personally use. And I also have three different courses. I have my signature course Podcast Pro University.
(02:32)
You can find out about all the things I offer along with coaching with me over at stefaniegass.com. If at any point you have questions about what the right option would be for you just hop on over into my DMs, girl. I’m only there an hour a day, but you know, I got you girl.
(02:52)
All right, let’s talk about beating the blah. So the very first thing I want you to do is inventory where you’re without guilt, but from an outside perspective, what have I been doing? Because I think so often when we feel blah, uninspired, or unmotivated or unproductive, it’s because we’ve actually been the opposite. And we’re recuperating.
(03:15)
When I, when I think about my clients and they tell me, Oh, like, I’m going through this moment of feeling uninspired, or I’m just tired. I’m kind of emotionally exhausted. I look at them and I’m like, well, duh, like you just came out of a huge launch or you’ve been booked out solid with clients, or you just did this thing.
(03:33)
So, often our bodies are trying to tell us something. When we have this exhaustion in our businesses, I encourage you to think about and inventory. What have you been doing? Have you just had a really heavy, busy season? Are you just coming out of a launch? Are you over-producing in your business? So you are not focusing and being present in your life with your kids and your spirituality?
(03:59)
If that’s the case it’s needed, that you just stop, lay it all down for a weekend, maybe three, four days, and breathe, just be. Allow yourself to kind of heal from this super productive state or this high energy output. This thing that you’ve been doing, like I had a huge September and so I needed to breathe and I was like, why am I unmotivated?
(04:26)
Why, why do I just want to sit here and watch Siesta Key for like seven hours? Like what is happening to me? Oh no. And then I realized, Oh wait, I had this insane month. I put out my all, I had the highest income month of the entire year in September. I launched a program and a promo. Also, I did a giveaway. I booked out my clients entirely through the month of October. I hired someone new, like my month was insane.
(04:56)
So instead of feeling guilty about me being exhausted, how about giving myself permission to have a weekend three, four days, totally off, no expectations to just do whatever I needed to do to like have mindless fun. So that’s the first question. Like, is it legit? Are your feelings legit? Are you in a season of just healing and meeting that kind of inner rest and that mindless restoration.
(05:25)
And I also want to say here, like, listen, while I get into my Bible every day, I literally meditate on God’s word every morning. I read a scripture, observe the scripture, apply the scripture, pray over the scripture. I talk to God, I read my Bible. And, I listened to the Bible at least 15 minutes a day outside of that, I pray all day. It’s also okay for me to get into the MTV app and watch some Siesta Key.
(05:52)
Okay. Like, listen, do you, babe, like whatever the thing is that allows you to just be mindless for a hot minute, go for it. Now, what did I say? I said for a hot minute, I did not say for a week so that you can put off work so that you can not do the things I said to just recuperate.
(06:14)
So if that is not the case and you have inventoried where you’ve been at, and you’ve been thinking about like, I haven’t been super productive. I actually haven’t done anything. And I’m still feeling unmotivated. I’m still feeling uninspired and blah. Then the second question you need to ask yourself is why, why?
(06:40)
Because if not, if you’re not producing at a high capacity, that’s a valid reason for you to need to recuperate, right? Like that’s legit. However, if you are just not excited about what you’re doing, then you need to really ask, okay, is this, is this an emotional thing? Is this valid? Am I just afraid of doing the work? Because I won’t be successful?
(07:05)
Am I afraid? Or am I stuck? Do I not know how and what to create? Am I at my limit? Overwhelmed in motherhood? Am I having issues in my marriage? Am I not spiritually fed? So there is some key questions that you should ask yourself if you don’t understand why you’re feeling unmotivated and unproductive.
(07:26)
And it’s not a season of just recuperating after like a big output of energy, then you need to address why these emotions are coming up for you. So often, what I see is people are in this, two things, number one, unmotivated state, because you’re afraid. You’re afraid of success or you’re afraid of not being successful when you do the work. But let me just remind you and give you a permission slip to just be really messy.
(07:54)
I was telling one of my clients the other day, I’m like I created eight things before “the” thing took off. Like I created so many courses and I had so many products and I had like five different freebies. I had all the things until the one, Podcast Pro University exploded for me. So if that’s the case, I want you to just write it down and be like, I am afraid of blank, or I have fear that blank, write it out.
(08:24)
And then I really want you to think about what are the lies and what are the truths inside of that, that thought. So I used to be afraid of success legit. So I’d write down, I feel afraid of success. And then I would journal over it. Like, why do I feel this way? Well, I feel like I’m gonna, I’m going to become a workaholic again.
(08:41)
I feel like I’m going to become like I was in network marketing. I don’t want to leave my family behind. And, I don’t understand how to do taxes or 1099s or like, all of the things I wrote down about my fear of success, they were lies from the enemy. Why? Because I know I’m never going to build that way again. I know I’m going to get help. I know I’m going to hire people.
(09:02)
I know, I know people who will help me with the financial pieces that I don’t understand. So I have all of the answers. And when I took a look at that, on that sheet of paper, I was then able to really leap on doing what I needed to do and to reignite my motivation again, about becoming more successful in what I do here. So you guys need to really take a look at those, those emotions.
(09:25)
Now, the second emotion that I typically see are people that feel like they just don’t know what to do. So you’re stuck in the overthinking. You’re stuck in the perfectionism of everything. And for those of you that are in that head space, again, I remind you if you don’t start somewhere, if you don’t start messy, if you don’t just try with what you’ve got with where you’re at, you’re never going to get better.
(09:53)
You’re never going to ultimately have the thing to even improve on. So I take you back to me, Stef, super messy, super ready to do, do stuff. Before I think about it, before I analyze it, I just do it. I launched my show without any clear categories. I didn’t have a launch plan. And, I didn’t have a launch team. I had busted channel art. Oh, girls, my channel art was so bad.
(10:19)
I had a staticky microphone and I just clicked record. Look at it. Now, what if I had never done it? Because it just wasn’t right. It wasn’t perfect. All the things weren’t ready. Well, the things are never going to be ready. You’re going to get clarity and you’re going to have direction after you start not before. So you’ve got to just do the things even when they don’t make sense, even when it’s unclear, even when you’re not sure how it’s going to make you money or how it’s going to work, just do it, just do it.
(10:49)
If I hadn’t tried blogging, I wouldn’t have known, I wasn’t really cut out for blogging. Then I went to YouTube. If I hadn’t tried YouTube, I wouldn’t have known that it was way too much work for me with where I’m at, which then led me to praying over what to do, which then led me to podcasting, which then led me to creating lots of different product options, which then led me to clients, which led you guys to ask me to help you start a podcast, which led me to my signature product Podcast Pro University.
(11:14)
Right? Like if I had never done any of those things, I wouldn’t be sitting here right now. I would still be regretting the fact that I hadn’t started two years ago. So if that’s you and you’re stuck because you think it needs to be perfect or it needs to be right or ready before you go. That’s a lie. You need to write that down and journal over that. Why do I feel this way? How can I change this thought process?
(11:42)
If I just got started now, what would it look like? Even though it was messy, even though I was unsure, can I give myself permission to just do that? So that’s the next one. Okay. So we’ve identified, number one, maybe your season of meh, unproductive on motivation is because you’re actually recuperating, which is a plus. Okay. Green check Mark. You, do you give yourself two, three, four days. Revive your soul girl, get into some Jesus, do some work or just, you know, watch some Netflix.
(12:12)
Okay. I used to say Netflix and chill, but then I learned what it meant. And I won’t say that anymore. You’re welcome. Number two, your feelings are actually your feelings of unrest or of like, and motivation or not doing, are built on lies and you need to move past them. That’s number two.
(12:31)
And so if that’s the case, you need to write down the limiting beliefs you have about yourself, the fears you’re facing or the perfectionism that is keeping you stuck journal over those things, rewrite that narrative and then go girl, go. You will become inspired as you take action. Now, the third component that can be keeping you is you’re just physically in a funk like life, okay?
(12:56)
Kids, hubbies, Laundry, overflowing, dirty toilets to be scrubbed, uh, not making profit in your business. So feeling like why the heck should I even do anything? Maybe just feeling frumpy. Hey, quarantine got us all a little puffy. You know what I’m saying? A little chocolatey, a little whipped cream on the top. Maybe you’re just feeling physically like blah, which here’s the thing. Here’s, here’s what I have discovered about me.
(13:24)
And I don’t know if this is true for you, but when I’m feeling kind of blah in my physical or my home is feeling messy. It’s the state of my business, my relationships. It’s the state of my motherhood mindset. So sometimes I need to take a hot 24 hours and get everything else in order so that I can then proactively attack my business with motivation.
(13:49)
And what I mean by this is I will clean the house, like take four hours and just clean everything up when my home is in order and it’s tidy and it’s clean and it’s fresh. Now, granted as fresh as it can be. Cause I have a almost seven and almost four year old.
(14:06)
So we also live here. Let’s get real, but it’s just orderly and tidy. I am able to operate at a higher capacity. There’s nothing nagging at my brain. It is worth it to me to put everything on pause to then go get my home in order. Because if you’ve never heard this, let me tell you something that I once heard that changed my life. The state of your home is the state of your mind.
(14:33)
Our grandma, my husband’s grandma Mano told us that and I will stick with me forever. The second one is a physically. I’m not feeling great. I like to feel really healthy, really energetic. I love me some like amazing detox smoothies and having like a couple days of a fast or a detox, ,drinking tons of water. And if I haven’t been eating super healthy, it makes me sluggish and it makes me feel non energetic.
(15:01)
And then that bleeds over into other areas of my life. So for me, I need maybe a weekend of just really, or a week weeks do better for me. I don’t know how you guys operate, but maybe Monday through Wednesday, super clean eating, tons of fruits and veggies, lots and lots of water, no sugar, no gluten, no white flours of any kind. And like I’m reset. I’m energetic. I feel good again. I feel confident in my skin.
(15:30)
The water weight goes right off. I’m full of those antioxidants and vegetables, not vegetables, vitamins and all the things that maybe I had been missing when I wasn’t eating super clean. So once I get my home and my mental, physical health, and maybe doing a run, going for a bike ride, not run. Who am I kidding? I don’t run. I don’t know why I said that. A nice walk, a brisk walk, sister.
(15:57)
I’m like, okay, Karen, you don’t run. Like what the heck? I mean, walk. Go for a mountain bike ride. Even just grab some weight training in my garage and you guys, it’s not like realistic here. Three days a week for me is realistic. I just feel better. I’m more inspired in my day to day, which then bleeds over into my business. So that’s the third thing that you can try get your home in order, get yourself together, girl, eat some vegetables.
(16:27)
When’s the last time you had just self some spinach. You know what I’m saying? Okay. That’s it. Those are my tips for you and maybe doing some of that inner work to discover why I’m feeling this way. And then to really tackle it. Tackle it head on. Especially if you’ve discovered that number two or number three is your issue. You’ve got to make the choice to make the change.
(16:52)
Did you hear me? You’ve got to make the choice to make the change. You cannot continue to do the same things. Stay in the same, same state, make the same excuses and expect your business to grow. Expect yourself to get out of your funk. You’ve got to do the work. Even when you don’t feel like it. You’ve got to, you’ve got to go or press play. Even when you’re unsure of how it all works out.
(17:18)
There’s no end result that we can forecast. We are not fortune tellers. We are just people who are living up to God’s mission for our lives, which means do. It doesn’t mean that you understand the why the what or the, where it means do. Be obedient, show up and work really, really hard and do your best. And we’re constantly battling against the world. We’re battling against limiting beliefs.
(17:44)
We’re battling against comparison, social media, busyness. We’re battling not enough, but you can win because you’ve got God on your side. So, sisters, I just pray over you. I lift you up to the Lord right now that he reveals to you why you’re feeling unmotivated, stuck, or meh, that he helps you overcome, that he pushes you through.
(18:04)
He’s with you, that you trust in his plan. Trust in taking action and knowing it will be messy and imperfect, which is exactly what God expects and asks of us because we are so imperfect, but we can be made perfect through God when we work with him and allow him to be our perfectionism. We allow him to open the doors, to give us the clients, to give us the words, to do the things alongside of us.
(18:29)
We’re enough. And that’s all we’ve got. So I pray that you find that inner confidence find that inner boost that you need. And start to go, start to leap, start to lean into what God is asking of you in this season here and now, even when it doesn’t make sense, I love you. Jesus name, Amen. Love and light, Stef.
