How She Passed Half a Million Downloads and 250 Students

I interviewed Patricia Sung, a past student of mine who is on the other side and has experienced all of this. She shares the explosive growth she encountered after completing Podcast to Profit. How Patricia Sung Grew Her Podcast to Half a Million Downloads and 250 Students

Stef: What do you do, Patricia?

Patricia: I support moms who have ADHD in figuring out how to live their lives well. How to be happy and successful as a mom with ADHD and build a life that you love and enjoy, a life meant for you and not based on what others say you should do.

Patricia’s Journey to Half a Million Downloads

Stef: How did your journey with me begin?

Patricia: I listened to your podcast for a while and I did not plan on taking any of your courses. Your course Clarify your Calling didn’t appeal as I already knew who I was speaking to and about what. Podcast Pro University didn’t either as I already had a podcast. So when Podcast to Profit (P2P) was mentioned, I didn’t think it was for me either.

One day I was listening to the podcast and I felt God say to sign up for P2P. I was shocked. At that point in my business, I had never invested in that size before. The idea of spending that money felt really scary. To that point, I had invested all my time and effort, but not my money. 

There comes a point, especially as a mom, when you don’t have a lot of time and effort left over. You realize that you can invest your time, effort, and a bit of money or pay money and spend less time and effort. You pay to fast track. 

There comes a time in your business when you have to invest because you believe your business is valuable and worthy of the investment. When you go in with your dollars too, it’s a different level of commitment. 

Stef: There is so much fruit in your story. First, I believe that nothing is on accident, so you being led to my podcast was somehow divine. 

Second, typically when God tells you to do a thing, the finances aren’t there and the timing isn’t the best. We make excuses and doubt hearing God. We try to tell God what we want to do. The greatest testament to us as Kingdom Entrepreneurs is for us to say yes in that moment. 

What Is Your Unfiltered Experience of P2P?

Patricia: It definitely met the expectations that I had. What I didn’t plan for was the time and effort it required. In between sessions, there is a lot of work you need to get done. It’s not insurmountable, but as a mom, I needed a plan to get all the things done. 

It’s like drinking from a fire hose and pulling apart the things you really need and getting them done. Others were keen on doing parts later, and even though you could, I wondered when is later going to be. 

The more you can do in the program the better. Just run the marathon. It’s a commitment you make but to have a coach beside you (Stef) helping me at every clearly laid out step was gold. 

If you’re going to say I’ll do this later, later is not going to happen. Put the effort in while you’re there because you’re going to see those fruits exponentially grow and the more seeds you can plant now, the better your harvest is going to be later. If you’re saying you’re going to plant that next year, you’re pushing that harvest another year out.

Stef: I love how you share the work involved. P2P is a sprint but it creates space and time for you afterward. You have all of this permission to not do all the things you were wasting time on in the beginning.

How P2P Helped Patricia Reach Half a Million Downloads

Stef: What shifted for you in your business after P2P?
Patricia: The main takeaways I pulled from the it are:

1. Foundational pieces are set. So things like writing the description of my show with the rich keywords that speak to my listener are there and I haven’t had to touch any of that. When you set those foundational pieces at the beginning, you’re not maintaining them along the way. Setting the key foundations allows you to rest on them.

2. The way I run my business. Previously, I ran things filtered through an ADHD brain. The way I run my business, batching things and processes, makes it go so much smoother. I stopped and figured out how to work my business in a way that works for me and I’m still using it a year and a half later.

Making Money From a Podcast

Patricia: I have courses, community, and coaching. 

The courses are teaching skills. I teach time management mastery for ADHD moms which I built in P2P. I also teach foundational skills and daily planning.

Community is a weekly meeting where we spend half the time planning and half the time hanging out. So half the time we are putting what they learned in Time Management Mastery into practice. 

I also run an annual retreat which was so much fun. And I also do coaching. 

Stef: How did P2P equip you to sell what you had created?

Patricia: I’m an introvert and I used to feel quite icky about selling. It felt like I was trying to convince people to buy things they didn’t need. I came from a background where I sold things people didn’t need. 

When it came to my courses, I felt uncomfortable explaining them to other people. So when we worked through the module on how to explain it, I used it in the podcast, on my website – everywhere. I was clear why moms need my course and how it will help them. It’s so clearly laid out now that I don’t feel uncomfortable talking about it.

Was P2P Worth It? What Are Your Wins and Outcomes?

Patricia: The business feels so solid right now. There were a lot of growing pains. I put the hard work in, and am seeing it all come together now, and it is mind-blowing. 

Over 250 moms have come through my courses. To know there are 250 women who are better off than where they started is the best. 

The podcast is rocking it. At the beginning of 2022, I finally hit the top 5 Parenting podcasts for the U.S. When I first started, people told me my niche was too niche and I had to broaden my audience. 

Before P2P I was at around 25,000 downloads, and by the end of the year, I hit 100,000 downloads. I quadrupled it in a year when it had taken me 2 years to get 25,000 downloads. Then, last year we hit half a million downloads, so quadrupled again. 

To know that literally thousands of women are being helped every year, every month, and every day in knowing that they are not alone and they are not broken. To speak these words over them, which they don’t believe yet, is such an honor. It’s also such an honor that God chose me to deliver this. 

Hands and Feet of Christ

Stef: Wow, I love this. I am so proud of you for saying yes and being able to see God’s hand work through so many students like you. To know that this isn’t just about me and you, but it’s about the hundreds of thousands of women that you now have helped. And because of you, they are now a different mom, a different wife, or a different friend. Now, they can live their lives from a completely different place because you have been the hands and feet of Christ in your mission. 

Patricia: There are so many times I have been so blown away by what He is doing. The last time I checked, it ranked in over 50 countries. Here I am sitting in my closet on the floor recording a podcast that is going to generate hope over the entire globe. It just blows my mind. 

Leap of Faith

I’m really proud of myself for listening and taking that leap of faith because it is scary to put yourself out there, and be willing to share your heart on the internet for anyone to listen. 

Stef: Why do we walk through the hard stuff to end up victorious so that we can keep that in our pocket? We are created to share our mess so it can be a message and a testimony so other people can find a breakthrough in it.

God chooses imperfect people to do His perfect will. That anointing is on your life too friend. Reach down to find the thing you are called to share or figure out how you are in the way of what God is doing What fears are you holding onto and what excuses have you placed as a barricade to where God is trying to open the floodgates that you need to surrender to Him? 

He will take it and do infinitely more than you expect. Both Patricia and I are in awe of what God has done with our podcasts. He’s the reason Patricia reached half a million downloads and my top-ranking podcast hit a million downloads.
