Creating a Podcast Content Strategy Outline
To determine if your podcast title and tagline are the best fit, you need to work from the bottom up.
1. Decide who you are aiming to serve and how.
From the coaching call in this episode, the client was aiming to serve a busy, working mom, 30-40, starting or having just started a VA freelancing business.
Remember, your goal is to serve one and not many. Get specific.
Think about your niche and then narrow it down. For example, Mom starting a business to Starting a business for freelancers and Virtual Assistant SAHM.
2. Determine the pillars of your business.
These are the core components of your business. You don’t need many, 3-4 is perfect. In this coaching session, the client’s pillars were: Website strategy, business systems, and mom/ work-life balance.
A TSO is a Tactical Specific Outcome. It is the promise of what your podcast will deliver. And it is said in 10 words or less. In the coaching business systems call, the TSO was created: Start a successful freelancing or virtual assistant business from home.
Keywords are super important here. Why? Because they help your person find you. And they also help you rank.
Keywords simply put are words your person is searching for. For example, in the coaching session, the client’s keywords were: work from home, VA, online business, social media manager, and freelancer.
You need to create 2-3 word keywords that you can rank for. Think of any and every word your person can look up. The more often we can use some form of variation of keywords, the better.
The keywords will then be used in all (and I mean all) of the content you create. This is done to help build your podcast audience.
Keywords can get a bit stagnant. So after a month or so, don’t be afraid to mix things up and try different keywords.
What Content to Create
So, you know who you are serving and now we need to think specifically about how we are serving them. In other words, what are you going to teach your listener? Good questions to ask include:
Why does she care and what does she need to hear to think ‘ I want that!’
Are your episodes teaching your niche and are the titles of your episodes targeting your person? For example, the title ‘’Why it’s important to have a website for your business?’ changed to ‘Do you need a website for your Freelancing or Virtual Assistant Business? And when to start one.’
Make it triggering by asking a question, then plug keywords in. In this example that was freelancing and Virtual Assistant.
Podcast names, taglines, and content strategy outlines don’t have to be an overwhelming task. But they are important to have a firm understanding of if you are wanting to reach the masses with your content.
