Narrowing Down Your Podcast Brand
Stef: I love your podcast title! It’s catchy, unique, and has the main component, which is money. And I love the art too; the two of you together and the dynamic it portrays, especially with Dylan looking at you.
The first thing I wondered about was the TSO. It feels like your TSO statement has three promises: work together, build wealth, and have a better marriage. With three promises, I don’t know which one to grab. I don’t know which one is for me. They go together, but when we think of the TSO, and what we want your podcast brand to be, we need to be focused on one.
Which one is right in front of them? Is it debt? Not understanding finances? Do they know how to budget? What is the one thing?
Rebecca: It really is the working together part. We focus on helping them with their communication and priorities. I would say the problem we solve is having two become one.
Stef: Working together is how you solve the problem, but what’s the problem? What’s the actual thing they think they can go to the internet and solve? It has something to do with money and finance.
Rebecca: When we did our research, people were talking about how to discuss money with their spouses and how to budget together.
Stef: Where are they? Are they newly married or older couples? Who is this couple?
Rebecca: We call them Jack and Jane and they’ve been together for three years. Stef: They’re in this place where he’s had his money and she’s had her money. Now they’re married and they have to figure out how to work together to combine finances, and then learn to budget and save, as well as get the basics of money management.
How Do You Decide on Your Podcast Brand TSO?
Stef: Also, are they saying they just want to be better with their money? Or are they coming with a specific problem? For example, are they in debt or do they fight about money a lot? Is there already a problem or do they just want Money 101?
Rebecca: They’re really latching on to the build wealth part. The people we serve are not in crisis. They make good money and they know they could be building wealth more intentionally.
Stef: So, you’re not talking about beginner, basic stuff. I think this TSO can be: Build Wealth by Working Together.
What that says is, “Here’s what we do: We help you build wealth by getting you both to work together.”
When we think of all you stand for at RadMoney, it’s that you help couples build wealth, so that could also be your TSO: We Help Married Couples Build Wealth.
Everything you do in your content is going to focus on building wealth.
Your Podcast Brand – Niched Down
Stef: I love that you’re using cash flow. What I want you guys to start doing is get so niched into the power couple. They got the basics down. They have a budget.
Rebecca: That’s the thing. Because they think they’re doing well, they also think they can skip the budget. They make six figures so they don’t think they have to budget.
Stef: Okay; that’s good. There’s an episode for you that epitomizes your podcast brand.
Since you know this couple makes six figures, that’s how you’re going to target them in your content and your keywords. So, when you look at keywords, I want you to consider:
Make money
Wealth creation
Financial freedom
Passive revenue
Build wealth
Next, look into phrases that will be a little more elevated and that they will be searching for, because you just told me they don’t think they need a budget, so they’re not likely to be searching for the word budget. They’re looking for cash flow, wealth creation, investment properties, diversification, and financial planning. Then go look at those phrases and hyper-focus on that content.
Rewriting Your Description to Better Fit Your Podcast Brand
Stef: Now that we’ve reworked some of that, we then need to rework your description a bit too. I want you to say something like, “No, money’s not a problem. You make over six figures. Yet, you don’t have a budget or a financial plan. You’re struggling to know how to create and build wealth. And for some reason, you’re not actually saving that much money. Welcome to RadMoney, where I’m going to teach couples how to build real wealth.”
That’s who you’re talking to and I want you to speak to them that way. Although they may not know they have a problem, you’re going to tell them that they have a problem. You’re going to let them know they’re not building wealth intentionally.
Rebecca: I love that because that’s totally the energy we bring in every episode, but it hasn’t made it to the description yet. That’s perfect and incredibly helpful.
Stef: It’s all an evolution and you are very close.
