defeat the enemy, strongholds and spiritual warfare
Hey Friend!
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the endless to-dos on your list? Does your list get longer every day? Are you struggling to get organized so you can make a true impact in your kingdom business? (Hi, me too. Raising my hand here!)
Friends, I know you feel too overwhelmed to get organized. You probably have a job, kids, church commitments, sports, and school functions – and there’s always dinner to cook and laundry to fold! And if you’re reading this, you probably have a dream of building a podcast to make money online, too.
Where do you begin to get organized? What do you do when you find time to sit down to work? You have a long list of things to do but don’t know how to get organized enough to prioritize your tasks.
You aren’t sure which tasks will move the needle in your business, so you either do nothing or focus on the wrong things. And as a fellow entrepreneur, I know this is all being done in the tiny pockets of your already busy lives!
Today, we’re going over 4 tips to get organized so you know exactly what to work on each day with confidence.
Where to Focus Your Time to Get Organized
I recently asked my intern team what they were struggling with in their online businesses. So many work full time, juggling kids, carpools, extracurriculars, and trying to be faithful to God’s calling over their businesses. One of the main struggles among my interns was how to sit down and do the work that will impact their businesses. So, I’ve been brainstorming tangible ways to get organized when we’re too overwhelmed to know how to spend our time.
Like you, I’ve been swimming in a sea of distractions for a long time. I tried using different organizational technologies, along with a paper planner and a million to-do lists. I must give credit where credit is due for my improvement in all things organization. The organization queen herself, Chelsi Jo Moore, organized my business. We use her operation system inside our company, and it’s amazing!
Want to organize your business, too? Check out Chelsi’s Systemize Your Business course. You won’t be disappointed!
Let’s get back to our tips on what to work on each day to move the needle from a mindset perspective and a holistic approach.
Get Organized Tip 1: Surrender Your Overwhelm to God
You need to surrender the overwhelm to God. When you try to control everything, you lose your focus and peace.
Matthew 6:33 reminds us to “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (NLT). I was stuck in overwhelm mode for 11 years doing random tasks instead of being intentional about my time generating leads and creating income. As a new business owner or podcaster, this is especially important for you.
Have a CEO Meeting with God
We need to invite God in at the start of our days. Start with a moment of prayer in the morning. In my courses, I teach you how to have CEO meetings with God. Ask Him, “How do I focus today, Lord? Please lead me in my actions and release me from distraction. Please keep me from feeling overwhelmed. Help me to do your work and do it according to your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen!“
Keep a Focus Verse Nearby
What verse do you lean on when you find yourself in an anxious spiral? My favorite is Philippians 4:13, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Keep a simple focus verse nearby as you’re working on your tasks. Write yours down and pin it anywhere that you might see it as a reminder throughout the day.
Get Organized Tip 2: Define Your One Thing
If you’re in Podcast to Profit with me, then you know that I say to focus on the one thing over and over. Where is your focus right now? Trying to do too much doesn’t make you better or move faster. It makes you do things poorly and leads to burnout! Focus on one needle-moving project at a time.
I’m guilty of this myself. I notoriously juggle multiple projects at once, but just like you, I am learning as I go. We need to drill down to the most basic next step. For so many of you, it’s starting your podcast. If that’s your one thing, why are you creating a course or hiring an ads company? That’s not where your head should be.
You need to eliminate the things you think you need and then do the thing. Focus on the one thing and then do the next thing.
Here’s the question you need to ask yourself: what’s the one thing that will move me closer to my goal?
That one thing may encompass many micro-steps. Therefore, once you’ve identified your one thing, nothing else matters until that thing is finished. If you haven’t launched your podcast, you should spend your time planning episodes, getting podcast art, ordering a microphone, or investing in a course. This focus on one thing will organically fill your pockets of time with pointed tasks.
Get Organized Tip 3: Create a Realistic Weekly Plan
Most of you are busy with jobs, kids, church, volunteering, and more. I want you to pause right now and look at the week ahead. Now, let’s do some planning.
For over a decade, I’ve been doing my planning this way:
First, I plug my timed scheduled events into my calendar (kid drop-off, soccer practice, doctor’s appointments, etc.).
Second, are your fundamental needs (working out, bible time, etc.).
Lastly, step back and look at the remaining pockets of time, as those are the times when you can work your business. Block out these small pockets and then fill them in with your focused tasks.
When you do this practice ahead of time, you know your plan the moment you sit down to work.
I earmark each day of the week for the project or event I am tasked to complete that day. To clarify, if I only have 2 hours to work on a Wednesday, and my only goal is to record podcast episodes, I’ll be in good shape. Conversely, if I have 37 tasks to complete and only 2 hours to complete them, I may feel overwhelmed and inefficient.
In a nutshell:
Identify your one thing
Find your pockets of time
Write goal-specific tasks in your planner
As far as planners are concerned, go with what works well for you. I use a combination of a paper planner plus my Outlook calendar. A paper planner allows me to be more proactive in my schedule. However, if you enjoy using digital calendars, be mindful of how you’ll react if your phone is sounding alarms all day.
Get Organized Tip 4: Let Go of Perfectionism
Perfectionism leads to procrastination. You want to get everything just right. Trust me, I get that! We want to do it perfectly and we want to know the outcome of our hard work. Will it make money? What if you don’t know the next step after you’ve launched your podcast? Well, guess what, you don’t need to worry about that because you haven’t launched your podcast yet!
God never asks us for perfection, He asks us for obedience.
Zechariah 4:10 says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” Progress, no matter how small is still progress. It’s okay to set a timer for 30 minutes and work with what you have.
Done Is Better Than Perfect
God’s plan always works best when we don’t put him in a box. Take a step forward without having the rest figured out. Focus on the one thing you’ve been called to do and chip away at it in the time blocks that you’ve been given. Done is better than perfect, friends!
Lean on God
Finally, I would encourage you to ask God to reveal your next step and show you the way, which ties back to our earlier step of relinquishing control and surrendering to God. I used to hate hearing that, and I still struggle with it, but it truly is the foundation of being a Christian business owner. Allow yourself to get uncomfortable and fully lean on God, who can help you focus on one thing, get organized, and grow a true kingdom business.
