(00:00):
What’s up friends. I’m hanging out with my mom’s new puppies outside, and I’ve got some time before my first client today. So I thought I’d record for you just a quick little fun episode on a concept that I hope will give you a whole lot of freedom, freedom in the way that you’re showing up in your business online and which platforms that you’re actively choosing to spend your time on because they are not all created equally.
(00:33):
And especially when it comes to the intentionality of how much you have to put out in exchange for what you get back. They are 100% different. I’m excited to teach you the push versus pool mentality.
(01:44):

So you can also use the code, S T E F 10, and save 10 bucks off of your ticket.
(02:53):
Let’s talk about this little concept that I like to call the push versus pull content strategy. Okay. The push versus pull content strategy. So you guys are showing up to grow your businesses probably everywhere still, because y’all probably still don’t quite believe me that you can just let go of social media, right?
(03:17):
You don’t quite believe me yet that a podcast or audio or video long form content would be the answer. Some of you might believe me, but I think most of you probably you’re still on the fence about it. So let me talk to you guys about this in a really visual way. When you show up in your business, let’s say that you have 10 hours a week to show up in your business case, you’re using your planner.
(03:43):
You got your little time blocks, all mapped out, and you discover that you have 10 hours. What are you going to do at that time? All right, I’m going to assume that most of you are spending 60, 70, even 80% of your time on social media, because you believe that that is the place that you build a business. Now, I used to do the same thing and I was so frustrated all the time.
(04:08):
Why isn’t this growing? Why am I not scaling? Where are the women that I’m meant to serve? And then the other, let’s say 10, 20, 30% of your tim, you’re spending on actually producing content creation. Hopefully the podcast episodes or the videos or the YouTube channel or the blogs. Okay. And if you guys don’t have that yet, that is literally the missing piece to your puzzle.
(04:37):
I’m going to tell you right now, but let me tell you what you are maybe still doing wrong. You’ve got to swap that equation. You’ve got to spend ideally 90% of your time on something that I like to call the push content. What does this mean? When we look at the different types of content outlets, we have push and we have pull.
(05:01):
Push is where you are producing. You are creating, you are the author of this content. So it’s your podcast. It’s your blogs. It’s your videos, it is whatever your thing is. And I know most of you in my community, your thing is podcasting. And so you’re spending literally 90% of your time on push outlets, podcasting. You know what? Another push outlet is Pinterest, creating your course, coaching. Push is you coming up with the stuff and serving and putting it into the world on platforms that you don’t have to engage in.
(05:43):
Why? Because that allows you to show up one to many. And that’s how you serve at a higher capacity. Here’s the other reason we want to spend 90% of our time on push is because that is how we get found. That is how you grow organically. Your podcasts with juicy titles and great content are going to grow. People are going to talk about you.
(06:05):
They’re going to find you in the search bar. They’re going to find you on Apple podcasts. When you share those episodes over onto Pinterest, they’re going to get found. People are going to save it. They’re going to pin it, click on it. They’re going to share it to their boards.
(06:18):
And then you’re going to get found. And guess what? You’re not wasting time engaging with people. You’re not scrolling and getting emotionally drained because you ended up off in some black hole learning about the latest political battle or the latest this or that, or getting lost in the stories because you own it. You own push content and you don’t have to waste time doing it.
(06:46):
So how much more effective are you if you swap the equation? Now let’s look at the other side. So for most of you, and I know this because, I’ve worked with hundreds and hundreds of clients, and I know that most of you are spending the opposite. You’re doing 90, 80, 70% of your time on the poll content. What does that mean? The pull content is social media. It’s where you have to go back and forth with people in order to make an impact.
(07:15):
Here’s the other thing that pull content is, it’s one-to-one in most cases. So if we take a look at Instagram, you go over into Instagram, you got to create the posts. So we could say, Oh, but that’s push. I’m creating a post. Well, is it? Cause then you got to post it. Then you have to go in and you actually have to engage with each person that comments that’s pull that’s you pulling them in to engage with you.
(07:37):
You then have to share it to your Instagram stories. And then you have to go through and see who’s liking my stories so that you can go reciprocate, right? You can go like their stuff, go watch their stories. Then you got to get in the DMS with people and you got to answer their questions and ask them market research. And you’re doing this one by one.
(07:55):
Now I got called out on this a long time ago. And it was like, Stef, how selfish of you to spend an hour going one-on-one with people doing this back and forth. When you could spend that hour creating push content and touch and teach many people that would live on forever.
(08:18):
Here’s the other problem with the pool, social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, TikTok and the whatever else cool that there is out there now. I don’t even know if Snapchat is still cool. Like you get what I’m saying? The other issue with that is once you share on these pull content platforms, it only lives there in people’s viewpoint for like two minutes, the amount of time that it’s in the newsfeed, right in their view, how inconvenient.
(08:51):
And then you got to go back and do it again a few hours later. And for what people are not on those platforms with the mindset of consumption, here’s what I want you to really take away from this right now. Here’s your permission slip to swap the equation. People are not on Instagram and Facebook with the intention of buying anything, with the intention of learning, with the intention of consuming, this is just the truth.
(09:19):
They’re there to stop learning, to stop consuming, to numb out, to like, just get that dopamine hit of like Has anybody liked my picture of my cats right now? You know what I’m saying? Or they’re showing up in the stories mindlessly clicking. Here’s the difference. When people show up on Pinterest, when people show up on your podcast, they’re ready to learn.
(09:39):
They came to that space because they wanted something specifically that you can offer. They wanted to search for something that you have an episode on. They’re Googling something in that Pinterest search bar that they need to know. Now they have a problem. They want to solve. They’re in a mind of consumption and they are also in a heightened state of buying? They’re in a buyers market, if you want to call it that.
(10:04):
People that head over to Pinterest, let me tell you something crazy, you guys, 70% of them are women who are ready to purchase. 50% or more, last time I looked at these stats, 50% or more have already spent money on the platform. And most of which are demographically middle-class or higher. So what does that tell you? They’re going to spend money there. So when you swap the equation, what’s going to happen to your business.
(10:28):
You are going to spend not 90%, 90% is the hope, that I hope you guys get to, but let’s just even start with 50-50. If you’re spending +50% of your time on push content, your podcasts and Pinterest, and I have courses for both, wherever you’re stuck and they’re super affordable. It’s almost ridiculous. Go to stefaniegass.com, click on courses.
(10:49):
You’re going to get over there and you’re going to share your stuff. It’s push, you get in, you do your thing and you get out and it lives on forever. It doesn’t disappear with an algorithm, because nobody’s clicking on it. It stays there. And here’s the beauty. It continues to grow. The more people that click it and find it and, and love your stuff, the more it grows.
(11:14):
Some of my viral pins on Pinterest that continue to work for me in my business they’re like five or six years old. You guys it’s evergreen. So it’s you posting, you to many, it’s evergreen. And they’re in the mindset of consuming and buying. That is like a win-win.
(11:36):
Now on the other spectrum, I still show up on Instagram and Facebook, but I’m only showing up there 10% of my time. So if you have 10 hours, that means nine hours of your work block is going to push content. The other 10% is going to social media, which is pull, you guys. If you are intentional with that 10%, you can do it because if I can do it, so can you. I’m showing up there 10% of my work time. What does that mean? It means one hour, Monday through Thursday, sometimes Friday, if I feel like it, I’m going in with one intention to get the heck out.
(12:15):
I’m posting my stories. Most of them are from a day before, because I don’t want to have to do things real time. I’m answering all my DMS. And let me tell you something. I’m not that fancy. I don’t get that many DMS. Like if you’re thinking like, Oh, I’m going to miss a DM, what’s the worst that can happen? You wake up the next day and you get in and you had 10 missed DMs, how long is it going to take you to voice message ten people back? 10 minutes or less.
(12:39):
Come on girls. Come on. We don’t need to see this stuff in real time. So I’m getting, and I’m answering DMs. I’m posting my stories. I’m posting my latest podcast episode. Once every couple of weeks, I post something in the feed. And let me tell you something. The second I swapped from, from 90% on socials to 90% on push content and from 10% onto the pool content, which is Instagram and Facebook, where I have to deal with people, one-on-one my business income went from 10% to 90%.
(13:10):
My income was directly linked to my activity and the way that I was producing. And if you guys haven’t yet listened to my 90-10 rule, it’s from earlier this year, it’s the same concept. You’ve got to spend 90% of your working hours in production, on the push platforms. And then 10% on the pull platforms and on the learning and on the growth. Some of you are just spending way too much time learning about what you should be doing versus doing it.
(13:45):
So I hope that this makes sense and liberates you from spending all the hours on the pull content because they just waste time. And honestly, they don’t grow your business. And here’s the secret in 30 minutes a day for most of you, maybe an hour a day, for some of you, you can get into those apps, Facebook and Instagram, you can write back to your people, get in the DMS, post your stuff, do your stories for the day and delete the apps and not come back till the next day.
(14:15):
And your business is going to explode because you’re going to find more time. You’re going to be able to go you to many instead of you to one. And you’re going to experience transformation in your mindset, in your presence, in your purpose. You’re going to break the strongholds of social media addiction. You’re going to break the strongholds of technology addiction, and you’re going to be like transformed. I am telling you.
(14:38):
This may sound like I’m being over the top here. But the second that I let go of the beliefs, that social media was the answer to scaling and building my business. My profits exploded, sisters. So what’s my quick takeaway for you on this one? Here we go. Number one, you’ve got to inventory what you’re actually doing with your work time blocks. What are you doing in your, let’s say 10 hours a week?
(15:05):
I want you to actually inventory it. Get out a sheet of paper. And for one or two weeks, I want you to actually do the work. I’m serious. Do the work. What am I doing? Hour one, hour two, hour three, hour four. Then I want you to highlight the things in one color that are pushed. Content that are you creating, you serving, you coaching, you doing the coursework, creating the courses, you recording the episodes. All of that, highlight that in one color.
(15:32):
Then I want you to highlight the stuff in the other color that is pull content, Instagram, Facebook, one-on-one DMS with people, getting in messenger. You guys, that is not going to build a business. It’s not going to sell a product. I want you to highlight that. Then I want you to do an analysis. How much time was this color and how much time was this color?
(15:54):
And then I want you to put a goal for the following week to just increase the push by 20% wherever you’re at. After you do your inventory. Your goal for the next two weeks is to just go up by 20%. How can you just go up? And then the following week, I want you to inch up again, 20% more.
(16:15):
And the ultimate goal for you by the end of the year is to have a 90-10 split, 90% production, 10% consumption, 90% push content versus 10% pull. And then I want you to then tell me once you’ve optimized it and gotten there. I want you to take note of where you are in your audience, your super fan number from episode 199 and your revenue, okay? Which is your sales, your top line sales, write all those things down.
(16:46):
Once you’ve optimized it to 90%. And then 30 days later, I want you to write down. What’s happened 60 days later. I want you to write down. What’s happened 90 days later. I want you to write down what’s happening, and I want you to come share it with me in the Facebook group, because you are going to be blown away. I promise you. So, I hope you loved this episode. And I just want to encourage you. If you have not left a written review for this show yet, girlfriend do the things.
(17:17):
That is the number one way you can thank me for showing up here multiple times a week and just pouring into you guys. It’s it’s how I get my happy place for the day, is going and checking out your reviews and seeing that you guys have left me these insanely heartfelt reviews and it really lights me up. It fills my cup. So if you haven’t done that yet, that’s what you can do for me is head on over to the Apple podcast app, click on this show and leave a written review. I’ll be forever grateful.
(17:47):
God, I pray for these women that they are just released from the lies that they have to show up in their business. 24/7 in order to experience your favor and provision, I pray that you give them discernment and truth and eyes of service instead of eyes of sales that you give them a heart transformation of showing up and serving instead of showing up for worldly ways, for doing more, for hustling harder, for seeking and searching, for the end result instead of reveling in the journey and looking to you for guidance. We trust you. We know that you are at work within us, within our businesses. You are transforming our hearts so that we can do this your way. We love you. We trust you. In Jesus’ name. Amen. See you guys soon. Love and light, Stef.
