December needs to be an intentional time if you want to be a successful CEO in your online business.
It can be easy to jump into planning and dreaming about everything the new year will hold, but as the CEO of our business, there are things we need to note and get done before we move on.
Here are the four things you need to do every December to have the business you want and be the kind of CEO you want.
First Tip to Becoming a Successful CEO: Reflect On The Year
This is my favorite thing to do each year! I look over the previous year’s wins, losses, and lessons and then toward the upcoming year. Tactically, this looks like using my Horacio Planner to create a dream board inspired by God’s calling for me.
What I love so much about this planner is that at the end of each month, there is a place to put a praise report. When I plan the next month, I can see what amazing things (business, personal, relationship, health, etc.) have been happening in my life.
I like to compare each year’s comprehensive praise report. This gives me joy and creates gratitude because the joy is in the journey.
There’s never a time when you get to the finish line. You’ll experience little moments that are big wins, but as you grow as a successful CEO in your business, it’s so important to pause and reflect on how much you’ve grown in the last year.
If you haven’t been doing it month to month but want to try it now at the end of the year, a great hack is to look through your photos by month and see what is going on. It’s a game-changer to see your blessings laid out.
Second Tip to Becoming a Successful CEO: Plan For The Next Year
If you are anything like me, you love planning! As a successful CEO, I make a specific master plan for every business area. I include things like:
- business goals
- revenue goals
- podcast download goals
- live launch goals
- team goals
If you have a plan for the coming year, you need precise metrics and data to help you hit your goals. For example, you can’t just say, “Hey, I want to make more money.” You have to know:
- How much money do you currently make?
- What realistic revenue goal do you want to hit?
- What specific steps are you going to take to get there?
It’s also important to remember to focus on these specific goals, so you don’t get distracted and start working on something else that won’t get you where you want to be.
You can also apply this process to your personal life. Plan your health and marriage goals and make them specific and measurable. If you are visual, you can make a vision board or use a beautiful planner like the Horacio planner I mentioned. It’s perfectly designed to help you plan intentionally for the following year.
Your plan becomes the action that you take the following year.
With any plan in your life, all you have to do is identify the first three steps. Others might say you need to come up with every single step, but sometimes, we don’t know all the steps it will take. Don’t waste time creating a perfectly outlined plan; take action.
The only way to make something happen is to start! If you stay stagnant, you will achieve your goals only at a snail’s pace.
Third Tip to Becoming a Successful CEO: Go On A CEO Retreat
I have gone on a CEO retreat for the last four years. It’s very special and sacred because it’s a place to get space.
You don’t necessarily have to go on some fancy retreat or leave town, but you do need to carve out some space to model this idea. It’s much better done with a friend, specifically a friend with a business similar to yours. This creates community and a safe place to get out of your head. Your friends can put other eyes on your goals and give you feedback on what you are implementing.
It’s also a nice way to get out of your routine and have genuine rest and encouragement.
Fourth Tip to Becoming a Successful CEO: Take Time Off
Like the retreat idea of giving your business a tiny space and rest, taking time off for your personal life is essential.
We are called as Christians to rest. Even God, the creator of the universe, took time to relax and so beautifully modeled that for us. If you want to be a successful CEO, you have to rest.
I know the temptation is to do more because you’ve got some extra time, but instead, let’s try resting, worshipping, and recuperating. January will come, and we will get back to the hard work needed and glorifying God, but we will do that when the time is right. December is not the time for grind; it’s the time for rest.
I pray this blesses you!
