In this post, I’m going to walk you through three things that you should stop doing right now in your online business. I’m so excited about this topic. I love to tell you what to do. I’m a closet bossy pants. Maybe I’m not even a closet. Maybe I’m just outwardly bossy. LOVE ME!
Anyways, these are three things that I’m totally guilty of. So definitely no shame, no shade. But they are things I wish I had known early on that were definitely not necessary. And now that I know:
I can stop wasting time.
I can stop putting effort into things that don’t actually have a result.
And I think it can help you get to your end goals a lot faster when you don’t have to follow in my messy footsteps.

The First Thing You Should Stop Doing NOW in Your Online Business
Okay, number one. The first thing you should stop doing right now in your online business is focusing on social media platforms to grow an audience.
Social media is a place to hopefully ignore and run away from but if you refuse to do that, it’s a place to just remind people where you live, which I hope is your podcast.
It’s a place where people are highly distracted.
They are not in a consumer mindset.
You’ve got to pay to play.
There is an algorithm that is stifling you.
If you’ve got 1000 followers, only 10% of them can even see your post. And they can only see your post for a short amount of time, 24 hours. And you have under a 1% chance for them to see a post, a reel, a video, a story, etc.
How is that helping you grow an audience? And is that audience even of the mindset of buying? Absolutely not! They are wanting the dopamine hit just like we all are. When they get into social, they want to scroll and click and scroll and click because that continuously feeds the dopamine in their brain. So this is the worst place in the world that you can focus on growing an audience.

The Second Thing You Should Stop Doing NOW in Your Online Business
Okay, the second thing you should stop doing right now in your online business is talking to everybody. So if you are guilty of this one, it might look like this. I have a lifestyle brand. I teach people about:
Weight Loss
Health and Wellness
Fitness
Mindset
Marriage
This is talking to everybody. And because you talk to everybody, you actually help no one. One person might come because you’re teaching health. Then because the next time you start talking about marriage in your brand now the health person is gone and the marriage person is happy.
And then you go back and talk about food prep and now everybody is gone and confused. This isn’t the way to build an online business. We’ve got to hone in and niche down into one person.
Who is it?
What are you going to teach them?
What are you going to help them do?
Get laser-focused on the one avatar that you’re going to serve in your brand, in your podcast, in your messaging, in your marketing, and in your methods. That is going to be a game-changer for your pocketbook.
The Third Thing You Should Stop Doing NOW in Your Online Business
The third thing you should stop doing now in your online business is focusing on creating offers instead of building an audience.
You’re like, “Stef but I need to make money!” I know. That’s why you’ve got to build an audience first that is really excited about what you have to offer. This will help them know, like, and trust you. Because if you have no audience, who is primed to buy? It doesn’t matter what kind of offer you create.
Nobody is going to know about it
Nobody is going to be ready to purchase it
Nobody is going to trust you enough to spend money on your offer.
Don’t waste time with that! The way that I recommend you structure this is you first set up your podcast. You guys can go through Podcast Pro University to get that done.
Optimize Your Podcast
The second thing you do is optimize your podcast. You have to start something to optimize it. You can’t wait for it to be perfect. Start and then optimize. Inside Podcast to Profit, we clean it all up. We make sure it’s foundationally set for success.
You will do a little market research.
You figure out without a shadow of a doubt what it is you’re going to create.
Then you build an offer that’s going to actually sell.
So if you find yourself right now looking around going, “What’s, making money? Maybe I’ll try this, maybe I’ll do that, and maybe I’ll throw this up there. Maybe I’ll have five offers.”
Pause and Get Clarity
I would implore you to just take a pause, take a step back, and really get some clarity. Don’t be afraid of taking a moment to discern with God prayerfully. Consider doing some market research, getting that podcast going, or really refining the podcast so that you can start growing a truly super fan audience. An audience that’s so in tune with what you have to offer.
They’re so excited about who you are and the pocket of the market that you serve and they know you’re speaking to them. When you start to have that, you’re going to see those continuous growth metrics start to increase in your online business. Now you can start looking at creating an offer in monetization. Monetization does not come before service. You have to serve if you want to sell.
