defeat the enemy, strongholds and spiritual warfare
Hey Friend!
Are you feeling stumped with your podcast content? I’m here to tell you that feeling stumped is a real thing. Have you ever hit record on your podcast, stopped for a moment, and thought, what am I saying? What am I talking about? Or maybe you’ve asked this question. Why am I talking about this topic again?
Do you feel like your podcast content is stale or you’re repeating yourself every episode? Maybe you’re stumped to create high-quality podcast content your people need and want.
Here’s the reality. When you are just starting, podcast content and messaging is especially hard. I’ve been doing this for over six years. Sometimes I feel stumped in my content, but I’ve cracked the code.
In this post, I’ll guide you through key concepts you can work on. They will provide you with an immediate action plan to create podcast content that is highly desired, listened to, and found worldwide.
As we begin with these concepts, we must first consider why your podcast content matters. Be sure to keep reading for a special announcement regarding how I can help you create your podcast content.
Are you ready? Grab a pen and paper. Let’s do this!
Concept #1: Why Your Podcast Content Matters
Podcast content is part of planning. When you get clarity on your podcast content, you communicate what God has placed on your heart to the people He’s called you to serve.
“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” ~Proverbs 16:3
Your podcast content does matter. Why? Because it helps you connect with your audience. Imagine creating a podcast that has a sprinkle of all the things that you love:
Decluttering
Marriage
Meal prepping
Prayer life
Dealing with your kids
Parenting
One person finds your podcast because of your parenting episode. They love it, subscribe, leave a comment, and share it with a friend. Then someone else finds your podcast because of meal prepping. They subscribe, like, and share.
The problem is the next week when they come back to find your targeted content they find something else. So they decide they can’t come to you for instant gratification. Sadly, that‘s the era we live in; the instant gratification era.
Create podcast content your people are looking for
You have to think about how to create messaging around content your people are looking for; consistent content. For example, if you have a lifestyle brand, you’ve got to take a moment and drill into the exact thing you want to be known for. Then teach it and become the expert. This will allow you to create podcast content around that topic in a way that is not dry and boring. But rather in a way where you are taking people on a deep dive into your particular pocket of the market.
If you choose to dive deeper into meal prep, it’s more than just the basics like how to get started and the fundamentals of meal prepping. No, it’s things like:
Make a grocery list for meal prepping your proteins on Sunday
Time blocking to create success in meal prep
Four easy ways to batch your vegetables and fruits
Three tips to get your children or family to help you with your meal-prepping
If you can define your ultimate messaging, you can follow an endless plethora of rabbit trails. That’s why this matters and how it’s going to help you.
Concept #2: Tangible Steps to Improve Your Podcast Content
This next section is about tangible steps to improve your podcast content. The reason you’re stumped is because you don’t have clarity. You don’t know how to take a big, broad topic and drill it down into bite-sized pieces like the examples above. Let’s look at some tangible steps to make this happen for you.
Step #1: Identify Who Are You Talking to
The first step to improving your podcast content is to identify who you are talking to. Imagine for a moment who the ideal listener of your podcast is. Is it a busy mom? Is it a woman who is juggling work and faith? Write out her struggles and dreams. What are the words she is searching for?
Here’s a tangible tip: Use things like surveys. For example, you can pop surveys into a Facebook group. Polls work well in Facebook groups and Instagram. Or you can ask your community questions. Shoot an email to your list.
What if you have nobody to ask? Get your phone out and text five people. I guarantee you know some people who are your ideal avatar. Text them and ask questions.
You might say something like, when it comes to meal prep, what are your thoughts? Then stop talking. Let them answer you in their own words. This will tell you who your person is and what they need from you.
“If you speak to people in words they don’t understand, how will they know what you are saying?” ~1 Corinthians 14:9
Knowing your audience is going to help you communicate directly to them.

Hey, friend. I hope you’re enjoying this post. I’ve created something I know will help you improve your podcast content. It’s my Profitable Podcast Bootcamp: a five-day experience where you’ll learn how to reliably generate income through a podcast rooted in a Christ-centered perspective.
You’ll get step-by-step training with me, guided workbooks, and bonuses with extra credit. This will allow you to make more progress in a few days than you have in years. Let me show you how to do this. In my five-day bootcamp, you’ll learn:
The second tangible step to improve your podcast content is to be specific with your message. Avoid general topics such as faith or parenting. You’ve got to go deeper! I know this is hard but stay with me. Instead of parenting, maybe you talk about disciplining toddlers with love and grace.
Use the ‘So What’ Test. What that means is to stop and ask yourself, why does this topic matter to my listener right now?
For example instead of faith, say, so what? So what about faith? It’s how to trust God in seasons of waiting. Constantly ask yourself the ‘So What‘ question?
Another thing you can use is the ‘But How’ question.
Instead of simply asking about parenting, consider asking, ”How are you parenting?” You’re going to discipline toddlers with love and grace. Do you see how that might help you?
Step #3: Use Their Language Not Yours
The third step to tangibly improve your podcast content is to use their language, not yours. What words does your audience use to describe their struggles?
For example, instead of saying I’m overwhelmed by podcast strategy, they may say, “I feel stuck and don’t know what to say.” This blog post is based on a phrase. “I feel stumped on my words and what to say on my podcast.” Do you see the difference?
Collect data in polls, email marketing, and even text messages. Pay attention to what your people are saying and how they are saying it.
This will help you go from a coach or expert level of understanding in your field and return to the grassroots place where you started. Here’s a tangible tip: comb through your DM’s, emails, podcast reviews, and any comments you’ve received. Notice the exact words your audience is saying.
Step #4: Plan Episodes Around Solutions
The fourth step to tangibly improve your podcast content is to plan your episodes around the solutions.
Think of it this way. Every episode should address one specific problem and offer a simple, actionable solution. Here’s your framework. Write these down:
The Problem: Call out their struggle. What is the thing that they are dealing with?
The Solution: Give them one to three steps to move forward.
The Call to Action: Tell them what to do next. Should they download your guide, join your Facebook group, or leave a comment? What is that thing they need to do?
Every week when I sit down to batch content, I do this. I’m not just talking about the same thing every week. I’m talking about the same niche every week, but I’m drilling into micro pockets of that niche and dissecting it in as many ways as I possibly can.
I know you are in different places in your business and need to hear my podcast content in multiple ways. There will be something I say that will finally click. You know you can come to me to learn how to make money podcasting and glorify God in your online business. And you know I am the person for you.
I want you to get known for that particular thing in your pocket of influence.
BONUS Tips to Avoid Feeling Stuck With Podcast Content
Pray before you plan: Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and the right words to say. I’m in constant prayer with God to help me articulate the message that He has for you.
Create a bank of ideas: In your task management system, write down future inspiration. I use MeisterTask, but you might use Trello, Docs, Asana, or even a notebook. For this blog post, I used ideas I got from my interns. They shared the pain points they experienced in creating podcast content. Next week, when I create more podcast content, I’m going right back to my bank of ideas and pull from it. This keeps me from getting stuck.
Practice makes progress: The first draft doesn’t have to be perfect. Honestly, it never will. Nothing ever becomes perfect, but I want you to trust that God is equipping you as you keep showing up. “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.‘” ~Isaiah 30:21
Figuring out your podcast content starts with knowing who you’re talking to, getting specific, using their language, and focusing on simple solutions. Create a bank of ideas from your ideal listeners you can reference. This will keep you from getting overwhelmed.
