defeat the enemy, strongholds and spiritual warfare
Hey Friend!
Do you have a business plan to niche down? Already started your business? Does it feel really big? Do you have so many ideas that you’re completely stuck on what the right niche is for you? If you’ve been hanging out with me for even a couple of weeks, you know I hammer in the importance of having a super micro-niche.
Inside Podcast to Profit, we go deep to create a micro-micro-niche for your brand. Why? The tighter you have your messaging, marketing, copy, and brand strategy, the faster you’ll connect with people who will buy from you.
If your goal is to grow an audience that feels seen and heard, and who sees you as a trustworthy mentor in their life, you need a niche. You must be speaking directly to that person’s heart and problem. Otherwise, they ain’t buyin’!
It’s time to dig into a cool formula I’ve crafted – the Niche Down Formula. We’re going to go through D.O.W.N. Be sure to listen to the entire episode and take lots of notes; this will help you narrow down your niche.
Niche Down, Get Clarity, and Launch Your Podcast
Imagine making this investment in you. Get in and follow proven steps. Not just steps that I say work, but from the testimonies of my students who have launched successful shows. It’s not a question of IF you should do it, but a question of WHEN.
I had a conversation with someone in my Podcast to Profit program, and she asked if she should wait to create her course. I responded by asking if she truly believed next year would be any different from this year. She said, “Nope.” So she started getting to work.
There’s no perfect time to do hard things. The time is now. You don’t have to be confused or frustrated. You follow a simple framework, and I’ll show you what to do.
Step one – how to get clear
Step two – how to launch your podcast
It’s that simple. We start growing your audience and building pieces of your business. You will be able to scale simply so that you can get your time, freedom, mind, and heart back! You can pour yourself into the things you love, and your business will grow. It is God-centered because you’re doing it in a way that aligns with your morals and values.
I also have a bootcamp if you’re just not sure or feeling confused about whether these courses will help you.
D.O.W.N. – A Simple Formula to Niche Down
You’ve got to niche down – D-O-W-N – We’re going through the D.O.W.N. formula.
You probably have some type of idea or direction of what your niche might be, maybe in the health, home management, or mindset coaching space. That’s great! That’s what we call a niche. A niche equals a direction.
But we don’t just want a direction. When we get in our car and are driving in a direction, we are still aimless. We don’t know where to turn or where to stop because we don’t know exactly where we’re going. So, what I want you to have is a waypoint.
A waypoint is a dot on the map to where you’re going. I want you to know where to turn and where to eat. I want you to know what pit stops to make and where you’re going. You should also know who you’ll be serving when you get there.
You need to go from direction to details.
Niche Down Formula: D is for Details
Look inside your niche and brain dump. You can go to MindMeister and grab a free account, use a sheet of paper, or use Canva to develop a mind map. Get it out of your brain and create a visual. Draft out every single idea you have in the direction of your niche.
For example: homeschooling. Brain dump all the things that come to mind when you think about homeschooling.
What do you want to talk about?
What are the problems you face?
What are the ideas you have?
Get them all down. This will help you find more clarity and more waypoints within your direction. In this example, you could say: organization, routine, recess, socialization, lunch break, curriculum, listening, discipline, Scripture, sports, extracurricular, motivation for kids, motivation for moms, complaining, standardized testing, etc.
I don’t care if you have two hundred things on your mind map. What you have magically done for yourself is create content, a brain dump, or a map. You now have a ton of ideas for podcast episodes.
Feel free to stop now, do this work, and then come back to our simple formula.
Niche Down Formula: O is for One Person
Your next assignment is to write down a detailed description of who will listen to your podcast.
In our homeschooling example, I will say our one person is Jane. She is a 34-year-old stay-at-home mom who homeschools her children. They are a Christian family, and her husband works more than 50 hours a week. They have three kids: a three-year-old, a seven-year-old, and a 10-year-old. She has some help but feels very alone.
You want to look at who this person is. Go crazy. When you move into the last tier of my school, Podcast to Profit, after you’ve launched your podcast, we do this work at a detailed level that you’ll go back and optimize every single part of your podcast, brand, and business. So it behooves you to go as deep as you can now, as it will give you a leg up when you get to my six-month group coaching program.
Niche Down Formula: W is for Wants
What does Jane want? Make a list of all the things Jane wants:
An organized homeschool,
Biblically-based,
Her kids have socialization,
More routine,
Respectful kids during teaching,
Help with her three-year-old,
Alone time.
Just let it flow. I don’t care if you have a hundred of these statements; you just added to your content ideas for podcast episodes.
Niche Down Formula: N is for Number One Problem
What is the number one struggle Jane has? You know she has all these problems you identified in the Wants step, and you may not know what the number one problem is. You do the brainstorming first and try to pick the one that is most prevalent for her right now.
For Jane, let’s say the number one problem she’s experiencing is that she has three kids in different stages of their education. She can’t seem to teach the older ones while the little one is home. The main problem here for Jane is that she has three kids of different ages, and she can’t figure out how to make it cohesive.
Bringing This Simple Formula Together to Help You Niche Down
Take all the work you just did: the brain dump on Details, your paragraph about your One person, all the Wants, and the Number one problem (D.O.W.N.), and look for the root. What is the root, the underlying thing you’re going to help Jane solve? What is her problem, and what is the solution you can provide?
That’s going to help you drill down from being a broad homeschooling podcast to figuring out what may be your “secret sauce.”
When I look at all the things we did at work, something stands out to me glaringly. Jane wants a routine; however, the season of her life doesn’t allow for it. She has three kids at different ages and stages, and her husband isn’t home that often, so she’s trying to do this alone.
Here’s what I would say: “I am building a brand, or my podcast is going to be: How to Create a Flexible Homeschool No Matter the Stage of Your Children.” Another option is: “How to Create Flexible Homeschool Routines No Matter the Ages or Stages of Your Children.”
This is your root statement. It’s to help you get clear on what you are doing or building. When you look at that statement, it enables you to understand that it’s not just a homeschool podcast. It’s a podcast that helps create flexible routines explicitly for homeschooling moms with kids at different stages.
That is so much more niche. It’s more of a waypoint on a map. It will help you create curated content specific to her. She’s going to feel seen, heard, and touched by what you’re putting into the world. She’s going to want to buy when you decide to offer customized, flexible routine coaching for homeschool moms.
How Are You Going to Niche Down?
I want you to apply this simple formula to niche down:
D – Details
O – One person
W – Wants
N – Number one problem
See if you can find that root, that core statement in there. And if you are still stuck, I have the solutions for you. There’s no reason to stay stuck. This will help you figure out what your business is.
