defeat the enemy, strongholds and spiritual warfare
Hey Friend!
I have a question for you, and it’s one I’ve asked myself for many years as a Christian who also has an online business.
Are you running a kingdom business that is aligned with God?
Let’s take a quick walk down memory lane. It’s 2015, and I had a multi-six-figure network marketing business that became wildly successful. I vividly remember striving, hustling, and working 24/7, focusing on likes, comments, and views. I prayed that something would go viral so I could make it.
And then…it all crumbled.
Everything came to a screeching halt when I realized I wasn’t growing a kingdom business. I was growing a self-gratifying business that wasn’t aligned with God. This wasn’t necessarily my fault.
The hustle mentality is embedded in us. We’ve been conditioned to think if we just do more, we’ll receive more. That’s not reality, and it’s not what Scripture says.
We are called to do good works that glorify God. Genesis 1:1 tells us that God was the first creator and entrepreneur. So we automatically know we are called to do big, great, and amazing things for the kingdom of God, but we’re also called to pursue plans aligned with God’s plans.
Matthew 28 reminds us of the importance of kingdom-mindedness because we’re called to be disciple-makers. That’s true in our businesses, too. Think of the reach we have when we’re intentional in creating a kingdom business!
Grab your Bible, a notebook, and a pen, and let’s explore four questions to consider when determining whether your business goals are aligned with God’s goals for creating your kingdom business.
First Question to Ask Yourself If You’re Aligned with God: Are you working for the Lord or people?
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.” – Colossians 3:23 ESV
We have to root ourselves in partnership with God and lean into this foundational principle if we want our plans to be aligned with God’s. In 2015, when the bottom fell out, I went through this really pivotal moment, got into Scripture, and redefined what it mean to create a kingdom business.
I realized that I needed to turn to God – even in my business – because I can’t compartmentalize my life.
Every facet of my life belongs to the Lord, so I have to hand it all over to Him. It’s the only way to ensure that my personal and professional lives are aligned with God.
Working for The Lord
So, what does it look like to work for the Lord rather than people?
Fighting the enemy so you can show up for the Lord.
Allowing yourself to be a vessel for God.
Willingly following the Lord’s path for you.
Second Question to Ask Yourself If You’re Aligned with God: What reward am I seeking?
Think back to Colossians 3:24. Scripture tells us we will receive an inheritance from God for willingly working for Him.
I am here for goals and growth. I believe that when influential Christians who are pure in heart, led by the Holy Spirit and empowered by the blood of Jesus Christ show up, we will have success for the Kingdom. And that means making money.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s okay to think growth is possible and show up for that opportunity – as long as we’re not creating our businesses or showing up in our work exclusively for money. Money isn’t inherently bad. It can be used for some incredible things. It allows us to give, serve, and help other people. It also creates an opportunity for us to be mission—and ministry-minded.
Paul reminds us of that in Acts 20:35. He recalls Jesus’ words, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” to help us understand a significant point: our inheritance from God is the blessing we receive from blessing others.
Sit with that for a moment and ask yourself this powerful question: am I working for the Lord and waiting for His inheritance, or am I working for earthly benefits?
Third Question to Ask Yourself If You’re Aligned with God: Am I operating a business in alignment with God’s heart?
A kingdom business has a God-centered purpose. It aligns with God’s heart and plans for you. In past businesses, I’ve started things that weren’t aligned with God’s heart. Instead, they were aligned with someone else’s success, calling, or story.
Running a kingdom business means having this posture of integrity, honesty, fairness, and transparency. Basically, if you go to Scripture and look at all of the fruits of the Spirit, you will have a checklist of how you should be running a kingdom business.
I want you to evaluate the purpose of your business. Does it serve others? Does it align with the gifts you are good at, your strengths, and the trials God has walked you through and redeemed? It might be wrong if the business is not aligned with God’s heart.
Fourth Question to Ask Yourself If You’re Aligned with God: Am I leading with integrity by embodying the Fruits of the Spirit?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” – Galatians 5:22-23 ESV
Leading with integrity isn’t always easy. We’re human and sometimes we lean into our sinful nature, but the Holy Spirit will produce the Fruits of the Spirit in our lives if we’re obedient.
How can you embody the Fruits of the Spirit?
Make a list of the Fruits of the Spirit and rate yourself on a scale from one to 10.

Servant Leadership
Does your business serve others? A kingdom business is going to prioritize the people that it helps.
Jesus calls us to serve others. In Matthew 20:28, He tells the disciples that just as He came to serve others, they must also serve others. Just as the disciples were called to serve others, so are we.
So, what does that look like in our business?
Listeners of your podcast.
Viewers of your YouTube channel.
Readers of your emails.
Students who purchase your courses.
Clients you meet with.
Employees, contractors, volunteers, and all the people who look up to you in some capacity.
How is your business serving them?
What type of kingdom leader are you? Our leadership style should resemble that of Jesus Christ. He focused on loving and serving the people who looked up to Him, hated Him, and persecuted Him. Jesus washed feet. He anointed and prayed with sinners and beggars. He gave us the ultimate leadership model to follow.
There are so many ways to know whether you’re running a kingdom business. I challenge you to sit down with God’s Word and a journal, turn on some worship music, and pray over the questions I gave you today. Ask God to guide you and show you areas where you might need to challenge yourself to grow in this season. I pray this blessed you.
