defeat the enemy, strongholds and spiritual warfare
Hey Friend!
Have you ever had a business meeting with God? In this post, my goal is to provide you with six tangible steps to set the agenda for your business meeting with God.
Most Christian entrepreneurs start with good intentions. We want to honor God with our business, but the big question is, are we truly doing business with God, or are we just asking Him to bless what we’ve already decided?
The Bible is filled with wisdom on stewardship, leadership, and building wealth with integrity. But if you’re like me, sometimes we separate our faith from our business, strategy, and intentionality. God never intended for us to run our businesses alone.
“Commit your actions to the Lord and your plans will succeed.” ~Proverbs 16:3
Consider these questions with me:
What if we partnered with God in the leadership of our companies?
What if we had business meetings that started with prayer before planning?
What if our sales process was driven by service, not striving?
What if our marketing strategy came from divine wisdom instead of trends?
All of this is possible if you begin having business meetings with God.
BUSINESS MEETINGS WITH GOD CHANGED THE DIRECTION OF MY BUSINESS
I started having business meetings with God years ago after realizing I could not run my business alone. I ended up with anxiety, stress, chaos, an addiction to my phone, and was running my business in all the wrong ways.
Finally, in 2016, after a breakdown, I surrendered my online business to God. I decided it was time to have business meetings with God. I will show you how I sit down with God. He is the CEO of my company. I’ll walk you through a one-hour business meeting agenda that you can have with the Lord.
This has become a continual conversation with God about my business, company, and choices. When I need to make a pivotal decision, I use this one-hour meeting agenda. I also use it in my quarterly and year-end planning.
I hope you will use this to build your business and know that God is with you every step of the way.
Your Business Meeting is a Faith-Driven Topic
This looks different based on where you are in your business and faith. It’s a rich conversation about why we would have a business meeting with God and what the Bible says about building our businesses with the Lord. My goal is to give you the steps of running a business meeting with God so you can host one for yourself.
Please note: You can do whatever you want. Your relationship with the Lord is yours.
I thought it would be helpful to walk you through what a business meeting with God looks like for me and the agenda I use. I’ll break it down for you in six steps.
Business Meeting with God Step 1: Make Time
Let’s begin with time. I would recommend sixty minutes for your first business meeting with God. Carve this time out. Make this a priority. When will this fit in? This might be just me, but I prefer to be myself.
I don’t want to do this at a library or a coffee shop. I prefer to do this at home by myself when nobody is home – my kids and husband are gone. It allows me to get into a vulnerable state and be fully present with Him. So, pick your time. You don’t need a lot of prep work. Don’t delay your business meeting with the Lord.
Let’s look at the first ten minutes. In my business meeting with the Lord, I begin by preparing my heart. The first thing I do is worship and surrender for about ten minutes. I align my heart with God before diving into business. Here’s what this looks like for me. Sometimes I’ll:
Play worship music
Sit in silence
Make some hot tea
Do some deep breathing
Spend time in His presence
“Be still and know that I am God.” ~Psalm 46:10. I’m preparing my mind and heart. If ten minutes is too much, feel free to modify the time. As you start to do this, try three or five minutes. I’ve found ten minutes is a good number for me. This is an intention that takes practice.

The second step in my business meeting agenda is to seek wisdom in scripture. The point is to gain biblical clarity on the topic you’re bringing to God. If the topic of your business meeting is direction, consider:
Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
If you need help selecting verses for your topics, I suggest using ChatGPT or Google. This tool can provide you with relevant verses on many topics. Try this prompt. ‘I’m having a business meeting with God and I need the relevant scriptures on‘:
Hiring my first person
Direction for a hard decision
Whether to invest in something or not
How to be more excellent as a leader
Planning and time management
In any area you are struggling with or would like God’s help, seek Bible verses. Bring those verses to God and ask for clarity.
SAMPLE OF STEF’S BUSINESS MEETING TOPICS
I typically find three or four scriptures about the topic of my meeting that day. For a New Year’s meeting with the Lord, I’ll ask what my goals might be.
Let’s say I’m working on expansion or scaling or how to overcome the fear of something I’ve never done. Last year, I was afraid of public speaking. God was moving me into that so I had a business meeting with Him. I was terrified of this thing God was calling me to do. I looked up scriptures and found many that instilled a belief in me to speak. It was powerful.
Instead of flipping through the Bible for verses, go into these meetings with more intentionality and focus. Write down any key scriptures and takeaways you want to bring to your business meeting.
Step 3: Review Your Business Meeting Topics with God
Step number three is to review your business topics with God. This will probably take around fifteen minutes because this is the interaction part of your business meeting.
In this part of the meeting, bring to the feet of Jesus your:
Bring all of these and the scriptures you found. You’ll probably want a large whiteboard or paper to present these things to the Lord. This is done in prayer. Here’s an example.
“Lord God, I’m here because I’m working on my business for next year. These are the verses I have found that I want to present to you. And these are the things I’m working on.”
Have a conversation with the Lord. This is not weird or creepy. God is present all of the time. The Holy Spirit lives in you. Close your eyes and pray. Talk to the Lord.
There is no right or wrong way to present your business needs, goals, and fears before Him. He welcomes them all.
This can also be a heart-check meeting. Is your vision still aligned with God? Are you striving or idolizing anything? Are you pressing too hard? Anything that is going on, bring it to Him in this meeting. Say a prayer in the Lord’s presence over all these things you have presented to Him.
Business Meeting Step 4: Listen and Journal
Step four in your business meeting is to listen and journal. We often forget that a true relationship with Christ is two-sided, it’s multi-faceted. God speaks to us in many ways.
Some people hear His voice directly with Holy Spirit downloads. Some people hear from the Lord in nature. They get a feeling and inclination. Scripture might speak to them. Sometimes God speaks through others. There are many different ways God speaks to us.
A prevalent way I’ve experienced God’s clear direction is through listening and journaling. This is the next ten minutes in your business meeting. Allow space for God to speak.
Sit in silence. This is hard so set a timer. Ask God, “What do you want to reveal about my business? What do you want to reveal to me about my goals?”
I like to have a journal and ask the Lord and Holy Spirit to lead me. “What do You want me to know right now?” I’ve gotten the craziest downloads from the Lord in these meetings. I’ve reworked programs, gotten clarity on hiring and firing decisions, and how to move forward on investments.
LISTEN TO WHAT GOD REVEALS TO YOU
Journaling has been powerful for me to have this moment to hear from Him. Too often, we’re busy creating white noise because we don’t know how to be bored, quiet, and still.
It will take everything in you to sit there and hear from God and journal over this. But this is extremely important. Journal over any impression, idea, or scripture that comes to mind. Be open because God may reveal things you didn’t even come to the meeting with.
It might be a total 180. God may want to talk about your marriage or an addiction. He may use this time in a different way than you intended. Have an open mind and heart to see what God has to say.
Who knows? He may have a new direction or mindset shift for you. There may be a new person He wants you to connect with. You never know. It’s just like our Lord to surprise us!
Step 5: Map Out Your Practical Steps
You only have a few minutes left in your meeting. Step five is to map out the practical steps for your business meeting. In the next ten minutes, get clear on what practical step the Lord is impressing on your heart. Here are three questions to ask yourself.
What is the ONE thing you are to do?
What is the ONE thing you are to stop?
What is the ONE area you are to trust Him in?
In your business meeting, you’ll often receive a brain dump or revelation from the Holy Spirit. But coming out of every meeting, I think there’s only ONE thing to do. Focus on that. I don’t want you to leave overwhelmed or just feeling good. I want you to have an action plan dictated by God so you can do the ONE thing.
Step 6: Close with Prayer and Gratitude
The last thing to do in your business meeting, step number six, is close with prayer and gratitude. This is your last five minutes. Thank God for His clarity, provision, and presence in this business meeting.
“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster. Plans to give you hope and a future.” ~Jeremiah 29:11
Schedule Your Business Meeting with God
That’s your business meeting in a nutshell. Those are the six steps with the recommended times. Make this your own. This is how I roll through a business meeting with God.
I want you to schedule your business meeting. When will you have this meeting with God? Practice this agenda I laid out today and modify it as needed.
