How I Got My Podcast to Rank Top 20 in the Entrepreneurship Category

I’m so excited about this topic! We’re talking about how I grew my podcast into the Top 20 in the Entrepreneurship category. Of course, podcast rankings ebb and flow, but to hit the Top 100 is an admirable goal for each of you. That’s when you start getting found and seen inside the podcast app and you start to get recommended underneath relevant shows.

It’s that next level from being in the game long enough – and strategically enough – that your podcast starts to work for you. Let’s talk about five specific, tactical things I did to get into the Top 20 of my podcast category, which is Entrepreneurship.

I hope they help, stretch, and encourage you to keep going. These tips are tried and true. If you are serious about doing the work, they will get you far. Take them seriously and take notes! Most importantly, take action. Getting coaching, listening to podcasts, and growing in your personal development journey are only as good as the action you put in afterward.

It’s the decision and the discipline that will actually move the needle in your business.

Ranking in the Top 20 of the Entrepreneurship Category

How did I build a podcast that is in the Top 20 in the Entrepreneurship category? Let’s go through five specific things that are the most impactful things that helped my podcast rise to become a truly successful show. We are a top 0.5% podcast globally and it generates from 100-150 sales per month. The podcast has become a catalyst for speaking engagements and being featured by other people with notable platforms and podcasts.

It’s been a springboard in so many areas of my life. Not just in revenue and sales, but in creating rapport and the edification I need to go next level in my career. I want that for you. If you’re considering podcasting or have already started one, this content is imperative because the only way you truly stand out in your brand and business is to do these five things.

It is work. And sometimes it’s hard. But it is one million percent worth it.

Getting Your Podcast to Rank Tip No. 1: I Have a Micro, Micro Niche

I do not have a lifestyle brand. I do not talk about motherhood, marriage,  weight loss, cooking, podcasting, and mountain biking. Although, that would be a pretty epic podcast! 

I teach online business – entrepreneurship – specifically podcasting, to Christian women. Now, as I continue to scale, will I grow outward? Yes. Maybe I will start talking to men and women or maybe I will grow in some of the things I teach. That is an option that comes with time, success, and demand.

Starting with a micro, micro niche really catapulted my podcast so much farther, so much faster.

Getting Your Podcast to Rank Tip No. 2: I am Ridiculously Consistent

I’m one of the most disciplined people that I know. When I make a commitment, I am going to stand by that commitment. Consistency is the secret.

When you meet millionaires and 7-figure business owners, there is one thing every single one has in common: consistency. 

In just shy of five years of having this podcast, I have over 650 episodes. Every. Single. Week. for five years! That is consistency. If you want a top podcast, you dig in. You don’t make excuses. You figure out how to batch.

Yes, life happens. You miss a week because you have to go out of town, somebody gets sick, or you have to care for an aging parent. Your audience will get that. I was in the hospital with my son last year and a couple of my friends recorded episodes for me. Everyone understood.

Of course, I don’t mean consistency has to be at the expense of life; I just mean that when you are able, you are there on the show. People need to know that you are serious. They need to know you’re not going to bounce out at the next new shiny thing. They need to know you are the person who is steadfast in your area of expertise; they can listen for years. You need to be able to withstand the test of time; it’s hard to find people we can trust in the online space.

Trustworthiness is earned. You’re going to have to do the work. You’re going to have to create that rapport where people can trust you. Show up. Do the work. Be ridiculously consistent.

Getting Your Podcast to Rank Tip No. 3: I Have Stellar Podcast SEO and Positioning

Something I preach and teach in Podcast to Profit is the importance of building your podcast in a strategic way. From the way we structure your podcast art to the way we structure your show to the way we set up your SEO and keywords to the way we title your episodes to the way we write your description and what types of categories you choose. All of it matters.

The way I’ve built the positioning of my podcast including the branding, SEO, and professionalism, are pivotal in order to get my show to be shown, featured, and offered as a recommended podcast. That is not accidental; it is strategic.

Getting Your Podcast to Rank Tip No. 4: I Was a Guest on a lot of Podcasts

In the first 52 weeks of airing my show, I had a goal of being on one podcast episode every single week. I achieved that goal, then I took a hiatus to build courses, learn more, rebrand, grow a team, and build systems.

This year, after completing the building and optimization mode, I am back in that seat doing more podcast guesting. It’s an incredible way to get visibility.

Getting Your Podcast to Rank Tip No. 5: Highly Digestible Content

If you’ve listened for any length of time, you know it’s really tactical. I do mindset episodes and I put on my preacher hat every once in a while, but 90% of the time, I’m here to teach you something you can actually apply to your brand or business. 

I’m here to show you how to change; stretch you and show you how to do the work; how-tos and tutorials to get you the breakthrough you need. Every single episode I air on this podcast plays a pivotal role in your growing your business.

When you are set to record your next episode, ask yourself if it’s relevant to where your person is struggling and if it’s tactical. Is it something they actually want to hear? Is it going to help, stretch, or challenge them?

The fluff doesn’t work. It doesn’t sell. We don’t have time to waste. That’s exactly the methodology I’m bringing to this show. It’s working. You get a result, then tell your friends about the show and leave a review. Boom! All that helps to promote the podcast.
