There is one easy video marketing hack that I’ve been testing and it’s proving to be a really easy way to engage your listeners. It’s a great way to boost audience engagement, and attract new listeners and leads to your business.
Before diving into the details about the video marketing strategy, it’s important to know that it only works well when partnered with podcasting. Podcasting (aka long-form audio content) is where conversion happens. Ninety percent of our sales come from our podcast as the initial decision-making point of our consumer.
This video marketing strategy is a quick and easy way to blow up your audience engagement when it is paired with podcasting. This is a short-form video hack that you can use on the long-form platform, Youtube. The purpose of it is to actually drive more traffic back to your podcast. Keep reading to find out why this video marketing strategy is a great way to generate leads, and blow up your audience engagement.
Use Video Marketing as a Partner to Your Podcast
Why would you pair a short-form video with audio content? People who are listening to something (aka your podcast) are much more apt to pay attention, to learn, and to take action. They are not distracted. They are not on their phones staring at a YouTube short, while going over to Instagram to check their latest message, while also replying to a text, while also feeding their kid chicken nuggets.
While listening to a podcast they are typically driving, working out, doing the dishes, or folding laundry. They are in a posture of active listening, which is why conversion happens at a much higher capacity in a podcast than it does on a video platform.
That is what the data has proven for my company and my business. This is why I do not recommend that you do this strategy by itself. It is a partnership strategy with podcasting. How to Know if You Are Ready to Start Video Marketing
I don’t recommend adding video to your business until you have 5,000-10,000 downloads under your belt. When that happens, you will be more well-versed in the basics of podcasting, so you will be ready to add a video marketing strategy to your business.
Why do I recommend waiting until you’ve reached 5,000 plus downloads? Because if you do multiple things at once, you dilute your audience and your business won’t grow as quickly as you think it would. Once you’ve locked in one method of long-form and you have a ton of success with it, then you can move on to the next thing.
How do I know that focusing on one thing is successful? When I focused solely on my podcast, my company grew and grew by hundreds of thousands of dollars. Because of the intentional focus I poured into podcasting, today my business is a seven-figure business and I have over fifteen people on my team.
Avoid This Mistake When You Start Your Video Marketing Strategy
Once you have your podcast on rinse and repeat, you can start focusing on adding a video marketing strategy. I recommend creating short video clips, NOT full-length videos.
When I first started, I was making long-form videos. I would record the podcast episode, turn on Quicktime at the same time, and record video. But, I found out pretty quickly that creating long-form videos on YouTube is not the way to go.
Here’s why:
YouTube is about 10-15 times more expensive than podcasting. It takes someone on my team 6 hours to edit the full-length video that goes along with my podcast episode.
My full-length videos aren’t doing great. We’ve got like 50 views on many of the videos and only one of them got like 800.
YouTube is like the icing on the cake and podcasting is my bread and butter. Podcasting is where I’m super super invested, because it brings the majority of sales to my business.
YouTube Super Hack to Boost Audience Engagement
Here’s the super hack that blew my mind. My team started to make YouTube shorts from the full video that I was recording. We used an affordable program called Opus clips to upload short clips to YouTube and here is what we loved about it:
Opus clips puts the transcription on YouTube shorts so it’s super easy.
These little mini clips started blowing up. They got 400-500 or 600 views.
Because the videos are shorts, we were able to put out so many more of them every week than we would a long-form video.
Here’s Why You Need This Video Marketing Strategy in Your Business
You will save time on video editing: Instead of editing a full length YouTube video,you can record yourself while doing your podcast episode and take 2-3 short clips from it that you use as video shorts.
You will save money using this strategy: You don’t have to spend $1,000 a month to pay a professional video editor. Instead, record your full episode with the intention of pulling only 3-5 short clips to upload to YouTube Shorts.
This is an easy way to get leads: Every YouTube short you make will point back to the full length podcast episode. This is an easy way to get more listeners to your podcast!
Why YouTube Shorts?
Why create shorts on YouTube? Shorts are teasers that point to your podcast episodes. Drive every short right back to your podcast episode, and you will gain more listeners which will boost your lead generation.
The shorts also will help you to engage with your audience. The YouTube platform gives people the opportunity to comment back and forth with you. It will also help you potentially reach so many new people because now not only do you have long form on your podcast but you have long-form on YouTube as well through the method of these little shorts.
Now’s the time to start recording yourself. Use the clips and start a real basic YouTube (shorts only) channel.
Follow These Steps to Start Your Video Marketing Strategy
1: Turn on QuickTime (which is a free software) while recording your podcast episode in Audacity or whichever audio software you use.
2: Record the full video to save it for later.
3: Pull three or four short clips from the video that you just recorded, and upload the clips into Opus Clips which will upload into YouTube shorts for you.
4: Congrats! You just started a YouTube shorts channel. How easy was that? Please keep in mind that this is a way for you to point people back to your podcast.
5: When you do have time, money, and a team to use the full length video footage that you recorded, you can populate it into a YouTube channel. ( I recommend waiting until you have 100,000 downloads if not a million downloads on your podcast before doing long-form video).
Get Started with Your Video Marketing Strategy Today
Remember that this video marketing strategy works best when paired with the podcast, because the conversion tool (that works best for me) is the podcast.
If you think about which method of long-form that will continue to stand the test of time, in my humble opinion it is podcasting. Podcasting will be the biggest moneymaker because people crave not having distractions.
People want to be able to go deep, relax, and listen, and learn. These consumers are the ones that spend. My podcast is where people actually decide to actually work with me, buy from me, and trust me.
