Today, we are talking about the common mistakes, the three top mistakes that I see people making when it comes to starting their online business. It’s the stuff that has you starting and stopping, or just all of the overwhelm around how the heck do I do this well and do this right? And for a lot of you, how do I even start? Gonna be going through these and I want you to get a notebook in pen.

Mistake number one, being afraid to go all-in because we’re afraid of starting something new feeling unqualified, or, maybe we’re an imposter. We don’t even commit.

We don’t take action at all. But if we continue to stay stuck in our fear and don’t take action, my question is, how will you ever find out what the business even is that God is calling you to start?

I mean, here you are, you get this amazing idea. You’re like, oh, I should do this thing. I should start this amazing business. So you spend time and money researching it. You’re on the internet. Maybe you take a course or meet with a coach.

And then instead of actually moving forward on doing the things, you get bound by something I actually have learned to call fear anchors or progress anchors. And these come in many different forms. You have experienced them in all their glory.

(08:39):
It can be perfectionism. Oh, until it’s perfect, I can’t do the thing or analysis paralysis. Oh, I don’t know how to do it right or perfect. Or I have to research this just a little bit more before I start. Maybe it’s frustration and overwhelm. Oh, you know, this is just too much. There’s no way that I can figure this out.

(09:01):
There’s a hundred ways to do this, so I’m just gonna stay exactly where I am. You’re not committing to going all in. So instead, you allow yourself to stay anchored. Another one is self-judgment and overthinking. I don’t know which of those y’all are guilty of.

(09:18):
I know I’ve been guilty of all of ’em at one time or another, but the great news is there are ways that we can alleviate these fear anchors or these progress anchors from keeping us from going all in. And those are letting God lead.

(09:35):
Taking courageous action even when we’re unsure of exactly the action we’re taking, having a step-by-step action plan, and then being clear on your calling so that you can finally start your business with confidence. If I had had the clarity that I have now, oh my goodness. Would my journey have looked so different?

(09:55):
Cuz I know I was totally guilty of not going all-in on the one thing because I didn’t wanna marry it. I had all the fear anchors in the world hanging off of me. I was just unsure and all over the place and had the overwhelm. And I definitely had the overthinking going on.

(10:10):
But if I had been clear, I would’ve been able to start with confidence and go all in. Not taking action will keep you exactly where you are. Know this, everyone with a successful God-led business first had to push through their fears to start.

(10:36):
And if you’re gonna be part of that group of people who are successful God-led business owners, you too have to push through your fears and start, know this. ‘Being qualified’, I have air quotes, comes through life experience, not certificates or fancy degrees.

(10:57):
You don’t need to have all the things in order to start. You just need to have walked through it yourself. And the last one, know this number four fear is a liar.

Say it, screaming in the car, mama, screaming over that laundry wherever you are. Even if you’re in the bathtub and your husband’s out in the bed. Fear is a liar.

(11:21):
I want you to imagine being fully confident in yourself and your business, showing up without fear anchors holding you back, being free to step into your calling with authority, knowing that God laid the path beneath your feet. That’s super possible for you. I’m gonna tell you how at the end of these next two mistakes.

(11:43):
Mistake number two, this one was probably the one that I was most guilty of. Trying to make quick money instead of confidently pursuing God’s calling over your life. Anybody else? Raising my hand, I was constantly chasing quick money.

(12:00):
Because I thought that money would solve all the problems or that money equaled some type of worthiness. Instead of pursuing God’s calling over my life, regardless of the money. Look, we believe that if it sounds easy and that someone else is successful at it, we will be too.

(12:18):
But there’s nothing easy about easy money. Don’t you think if overnight success existed, everyone would be a millionaire? I know. And I’ve tried all the things, guys, I’ve had the big network market business and somebody else was having success at it.

(12:35):
So I thought that was gonna be my ticket. I tried selling t-shirts on Amazon merch. This is not a drill. This is the truth. Had an Etsy shop, selling random things. Then I helped people with Facebook ads and funnels or even created logos for people for a while.

(12:56):
You guys, I am awful at graphic design and there is no place on this planet for Stefanie Gass as a graphic designer. So sorry to anybody that was with me during that very strange moment of identity crisis in my life.

(13:18):
Look, because we don’t feel confident in the one thing, in the actual calling work, we pick random side hustles and we buy into the lie of overnight success, but selling something random that isn’t scalable, that doesn’t fulfill your heart, it leaves you feeling defeated, unfulfilled, frustrated, and broke.

(13:42):
What if instead of trying to make quick money, you created a sustainable God-centered business from your calling, passions, and gifts, a business that didn’t depend on grandma Grace or aunt Abby.

(14:00):
Or a weird social media marketing or awkward conversations around things that you aren’t even qualified and called to do to make you money. Just imagine the freedom in that.

(14:14):
The third and final mistake, third and final one. And I think we are all super guilty of this one, trying to duct tape your business together instead of building on a solid foundation of proven methods. Let me say that one again.

(14:31):
Mistake number three, you’re trying to duct tape your business together instead of literally investing and building on a solid foundation of proven methods from people you trust. We think that we should save money by going to Google university or Yahoo university or wherever your search engine is and piecemealing our business together.

(14:57):
But hear me for a second. If you continue to duct tape your business together, instead of building on a foundation of stone, my question is how sustainable can it really be? How long until it starts falling apart of the seams? And I know because we think we can save money and time by figuring it out on our own.

(15:18):
We don’t follow the proven method or we don’t invest in the proven method. But the truth is because we don’t actually know what we’re doing we lose time, money, and we end up with a business that isn’t sustainable. It’s not built on a solid foundation.

(15:36):
So, what if instead of duct taping your business together, you followed a proven method that created a solid foundation to build a forever business His way.
