(00:00):
Hey, friend! Today, we are gonna be digging into six books that I have read over the past four to five months that I just totally loved. I have a rating for each one I’m gonna share with you and a quick synopsis of each of these books.
(00:17):
And I’m gonna keep it interesting for you because I have some spiritual warfare books. I have got some spiritual growth books. I’ve got some marriage books up in here, and then I have a business book to share with you as well.
(00:30):
So if you’re anything like me, you kind of like to spice up the stuff that you’re reading, keep it interesting, and kind of pull from each area of your life, next up on my list are to look at some parenting books and a couple more at leadership business books, which I’ll be sharing with you next quarter. So let’s do this.
(01:44):
Before we dig into these books, these book ratings, reviews, and overviews, I wanna let you know that there is still only one spot left, which is super crazy and means that there is someone out there that is meant to join us in this summer round of Podcast to Profit. One spot left.
(02:04):
Whether we get the one person or not applications do close today. So you have until the end of the day today to get your application in at podcasttoprofitmastermind.com. One spot, and when it’s gone, it’s gone or when it closes, we’re done.
(02:20):
Cuz we gotta wrap things up, get everybody going in the Facebook group. We’ve gotta get all the things squared away so that we can kick off this coming Thursday. I cannot believe it. We are already here. So if you’re a podcaster who wants to experience massive growth, you wanna rank on the podcast charts.
(02:35):
You want to have big success or maybe create a course, coaching, or program offer. You need to know all the tech to get all the pieces done and you need lots of accountability to see you through to the other side. This is it. podcasttoprofitmastermind.com.
(02:52):
Let’s start with the easy stuff. Let’s start with the business book. So, in January of this year, I read the book Think Again by Adam Grant, this is a newer book and I would rate this book a seven. This is definitely a business/leadership book.
(03:10):
And the only reason I rated it a seven, I loved it, and then about halfway through, I just started to lose interest in it. I felt like it kind of got a bit repetitive for me and it was losing kind of the interest value, but the first half was like a 10.
(03:26):
So that’s why I’m even bringing this up I do think it was a great book, especially for those of you who wanna lead a team, I mean, you lead your house, you lead your children.
We have a part to play in leadership of our marriage.
(03:39):
And so I think it’s a great book for anyone. And so really, in a nutshell, this is about the critical art of rethinking, helping you learn how to question your opinions and other people’s opinions to really help you have a deeper understanding of people.
(03:57):
And it really goes deep into your cognitive mindset, your cognitive skills, but also the world.
So how do we really look at the world around us and not just conform, but almost rethink and unlearn? That’s the premise. And so Adam Grant is the author.
(04:15):
He’s an organizational psychologist and a New York Times best-selling author. So again, this one is a seven, definitely a good read for those of you looking for an awesome business book.
(04:27):
Let’s dip into marriage now. I’ve got a marriage book that I rated a 10 and this is a scale of one to 10, BTW. I read it at the end of December Sacred Marriage.
Y’all, just get out a notebook and pen because you’re gonna need to write these down. Okay. Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas. It is a 10.
(04:50):
You need to read this book if you are married or if you’re ever going to get married, this book is an absolute must. It challenged me, it stretched me, but most importantly, it’s helped me have a totally different positioning in my own marriage. It was tactically life-changing.
(05:11):
And the main principle here is what if God designed marriage to make us holy more than happy? I mean, just let that sink for a minute. How to be more holy in your life, through your marriage than happy?
Haven’t we all been told our whole lives we just want you to be happy and you get married, you could be happy.
(05:32):
And how many marriages are happy all the time. It’s just absolutely impossible. And so we have to look at our lives as this constant extenuation of God’s love for us and also of being like Jesus.
And so some of the key points were how to turn marital struggles into spiritual and personal appreciation.
(05:54):
How to love your spouse, regardless of how and who they are with a stronger sense of purpose behind it, how to partner in spiritual growth and character formation of your spouse.
(06:06):
So your spiritual growth can help transform the character of your spouse. How cool is that? And then transform a tired marriage into a marriage filled with awe and respect.
And they do talk a lot about intimacy inside the bedroom and outside the bedroom in this book.
(06:19):
And it just really transforms the way that you think and the things that you’ve been taught your entire life. So again, Sacred Marriage put that on your must-read and it is a 10, by Gary Thomas.
(06:29):
Let’s keep going. Now we’re gonna go into four books. Well, one of these is not really a spiritual warfare book, so we’ll do that one first.
And then I have three specific spiritual warfare books, which is so weird. I’ve dealt with spiritual warfare since I was a child.
(06:54):
True. In the depths of some scary-ish warfare, specifically as a kid. And what’s interesting now as I’m older is I’m not afraid of it anymore. So I think that it doesn’t really come at me so hard and I don’t allow it to come at me from fear.
(07:13):
I don’t react to it from a fear place, I guess that is what I’m trying to say. I really observe it and recognize it for what it is and then use my authority in Jesus Christ to be done with that and to move on from it.
(07:26):
But I’ve been hearing from so many of you, my students and people I work with, and even my colleagues, they’re just under true attack. And I know if you’ve never been under attack it can be very frightening and frustrating and you feel like why is this happening?
(07:42):
And how can God allow this? And there’s so many questions around it. So I almost wonder if God led me to these different books just so I could share them with you.
Now I learned a ton and man, like talk about the armor of God. These books were very important in upping my warfare game.
(08:01):
We are a battle every day and it’s just truly, I mean, it is what it is, guys. In the Bible, there are many scripture references to spiritual warfare and to the powers and principalities that we come across and come against every single day.
(08:13):
And if you don’t believe it, go look up spiritual warfare in scripture and spend a hot minute in there because it’s real. Anyway, I’ve experienced it firsthand. And so have you, so here are some books that I think will help you.
(08:26):
You can get kind of like people can come at you like, oh my gosh, don’t read that author. Don’t read that book. No one is perfect, just like in the church world, no pastor, no church, no podcaster is perfect. I am not perfect. No business coach is perfect. Your best friend is not perfect.
(08:46):
You are not perfect. So you guys have to read a book with a discerning heart. Take what God wants you to, and glean what God wants to show you. I’ve heard it as chew the meat and then spit out the bones before, is like a nice visualization of this.
Read the book, and glean what God wants for you. And then leave anything behind that doesn’t sit with you because not every single thing that someone says should be taken as gospel.
(09:15):
The only gospel is the literal gospel. So that being said, these books blessed me very much and I just hope that they can do the same for you. So let’s begin with John Ramirez.
I highly recommend John Ramirez’s books, if are experiencing spiritual warfare of any kind in your life, business, marriage, motherhood, personally, your mindset.
(09:42):
I mean, come on with it. These books were so good. Could not put them down. Ended up reading Armed and Dangerous first by John Ramirez.
I gave that a 10 and then I was just mind blown by this book that I ended up reading his other book Out of the Devil’s Cauldron, which is more of his story. And I gave that one an eight.
(10:05):
So, Armed and Dangerous. Let’s start there. This book is really a dynamic battle plan to help you identify enemy tactics and equip believers to live victoriously. Jesus made it clear that the devil has come to steal, kill and destroy.
(10:25):
And hell is literally unleashing fury against every single follower of Jesus. And yet we, as believers, we’re kind of living in denial. We think that it can’t touch us, that we are not under attack, that this is just the way it is. Life is just hard.
(10:40):
But the truth is, when we are not armored up with the armor of God and walking out our anointing and our authority in Jesus Christ, we’re literally letting the enemy steal our blessings, destroy our relationships and kill our hope.
(10:52):
So this book is gonna teach you how to discern and shut down the enemy’s tactics, fight with your God-given authority, break free from destructive patterns and replace them with godly ones, and fortify your mind and heart against attacks.
(11:03):
Take back what the devil has stolen, grow in wisdom, and more. It was so good. I loved it. So read that one and glean some wisdom. Second one by John Ramirez was Out of the Devil’s Cauldron. I rated that one in eight, and this is really more of John’s story.
(11:20):
So I would definitely start with the other book, but you might end up moving into his second one, if you end up really vibing with his message, but he really just tells the story of how he was trained to be a high priest of a Satanic cult.
(11:35):
He was trained in witchcraft and controlling entire spiritual regions. He had a crazy testimony about coming out of Satanism and being redeemed by Christ, and what that story really looked like.
And what’s cool about it is he has this story that he can share with us about what it’s like to live on the other side.
(11:56):
And so I just felt that it was just so interesting and it helped me kind of really understand the powers at play here.
But most importantly, how powerful I am and how powerful you are in you’re anointing as a child of God and you have the authority, the holy spirit living within you right now, every single day.
(12:21):
So Out of the Devil’s Cauldron, John Ramirez, definitely an eight. And then one last one for you related to the spiritual growth kind of realm is The Bait of Satan. This is by John Bevere.
I gave this one a nine. I loved this book, this one isn’t specific to spiritual warfare, even though it’s called The Bait of Satan.
(12:45):
It talks specifically about one of Satan’s snares, one of Satan’s traps that he is using to trick you and confuse you and keep you bound and keep you held down.
(13:00):
And most of us don’t even realize that this is one of the snares, and all of us are trapped by it. I was definitely trapped by this. You will literally encounter this offense and it’s up to you to handle this, correctly.
(13:14):
You’ll become stronger rather than bitter, you will stay free from offense and escape a victim mentality, and you will be able to fight thoughts of suspicion, and distrust, stop rehearsing past hurts, and learn how to regain trust after somebody offends you.
(13:33):
And it really just gives us that freedom to stay free of offense. It was so challenging and good, and it helped me really uncover some roots that I didn’t really know were lurking in my heart and my spirit this book was just such a good read. So that one a nine, The Bait of Satan by John Bevere.
(13:53):
Last one. This one is the most recent one that I have finished and it’s called The Tipping Point. No, it’s not the tipping point that you’re thinking of. It’s actually by Jimmy Evans.
And if any of you guys have followed Jimmy Evans for a while, he is super renowned for his work in marriages.
(14:19):
He writes lots of books and helps Christians and their marriages. And I was actually looking for a marriage book and I was scrolling through audible and God just spoke to me and was like, stop. What is this book? The Tipping Point, this book was so good.
(14:36):
Now, I’ve always had an interest in the end of the world, in eschatology. And I think you can all agree with me, we are in the end times. So this book was so good.
(14:46):
It wasn’t like this is the date, do these things, Jimmy Evans just had such a great way of using the Bible to kind of layout the end times prophecies and to help us understand what world events can be linked back to biblical prophecies. It’s just really good.
(15:08):
He answers questions like, are we living in the end times, how should believers respond to this increasing immorality, will Christians go through the tribulation?
What role does Israel play in God’s prophetic plan or COVID 19 and other world events announcing the imminent return of Jesus? It was just so great.
(15:25):
And Jimmy has studied eschatology for more than 45 years. And if you know, know his work, I mean, I have definitely known his work for a while in the marriage realm, but this was just such a fun journey into this book.
(15:39):
Now I will say, if you get scared, which you shouldn’t, but if you get scared or nervous about end times you might skip this one, but if that’s something that interests you, I have had a hard time finding really quality literature where it’s not skewed, or you don’t think somebody’s being a weirdo, throwing dates out there.
(16:00):
The scripture says we will not know the specific day or time and Jimmy doesn’t claim to, and he specifically addresses that in this book, but he definitely gives you some insight into where he believes that we are in end times, which I agree with I have to say.
(16:16):
Anyways, those are the books that I have read in the past five months. And I hope that they bless you. I definitely think that Sacred Marriage is a must-read by every single one of you. Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas.
(16:31):
I also think that Armed and Dangerous is a must-read by all of you and along with the bait of Satan by John Bevere, those are the three that I would rate my top three books here on this list. Then I would follow that up with The Tipping Point by Jimmy Evans.
(16:50):
Out of the Devil’s Cauldron was really just an interesting follow-up and then the last but not least Think Again by Adam Grant.
I guess I definitely took a little hiatus from my normal personal development business books in the last couple of months and kind of dug into some spiritual growth, but it was awesome.
(17:07):
So this quarter I’m focusing a bit more on leadership. I’ve been reading a brain book, I’ve got a leadership book that I’m I’m going through right now.
And I will definitely give you guys those ratings and overviews at the end of Q2. So God bless you. I hope this was fun, kind of like something new and different.
(17:26):
And just thought I’d share with you guys the books that have blessed me and last but not least, if you are my one person for P2P again, just a final reminder, podcasttoprofitmastermind.com.
I love you guys so much. I’ll see you back here tomorrow for a quick tip Tuesday. And if you’re not subscribed, fix that thing cuz you don’t wanna miss an epic show.
