defeat the enemy, strongholds and spiritual warfare
Hey Friend!
Today, I want to talk to you about some biblical business advice from the book of Proverbs. If you’re building a 7-figure God-led business, you’re not just here to make a quick buck or help a few people. No, my friend!
You are anointed and appointed as a kingdom CEO.
What the heck does that mean? It means you’re here to do God’s will in your work. It means getting into God’s word to glean business advice from the One who called you to this work!
If you want to run a successful, God-centered, 7-figure business, you need to partner with God in every facet of your business. Who is more qualified to give business advice than the One who created you?
So, grab a notebook and your favorite cup of joe, and let’s journey through Proverbs, where we’ll dive into biblical business advice to get you to a 7-figure business God’s way.
I’m so happy you’re here because partnering with the Lord in your business will unlock blessings you didn’t even know you needed! These include peace in your business, more time in your day, hiring with intention, and finding the right people to work alongside you.
I’m telling you, the answer to most every problem and decision in your business comes straight from the Word of God. So, let’s dive in.
Business Advice from a 7-Figure Business Owner: Make God Your CEO
The first piece of advice is to make God the CEO of your business. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your actions to the Lord and your plans will succeed.” Running a business without God is like trying to hop on a sailboat and assume you can sail. I’ve never tried sailing, but I can imagine how hard that might be.
What I’d need to do is research which sailing company is best and have a seasoned sailor go with me to show me how to do it. I can only imagine the difficulty of navigating the waters or understanding the boat as someone who’s never done it before.
Running a kingdom business is the same – no matter how long you’ve been in business or how many times you’ve launched and relaunched. Even if you’re already very successful in your business, if you’re not doing this with God as your CEO and partner, it will be hard. And you may even end up shipwrecked.
This happened to me in my first business because I was doing things the world’s way and not God’s way. I was doing everything I was told to do without taking it to Him in prayer. Everything became hard and stressful, and I began creating idols from social media. It was a mess! I ended up shipwrecked and in failure mode.
What Does It Mean to Have God as Our CEO?
This means that we commit everything to Him. Imagine you have a company CEO in this beautiful corner office. Now, imagine God is sitting in that corner office. Before I make a hiring decision, launch something new, or make a big shift, I’m going to walk over to the corner office and have a meeting with God about my decision before I make it. You would do this with any company’s CEO, and this is no different.
Business Advice from a 7-Figure Business Owner: Serve Others with Integrity
Business is about serving others well, not just making money.
I’m so here for businesses making money! I believe money is a means of exchange, and I believe God uses money for good when good people are stewarding those blessings. However, I also believe we have to operate with honesty and integrity. This means no false promises.
Friends, don’t make promises you can’t keep! This is sound life advice, not just business advice! Always be 100% honest. As a Christian business owner, we are called to be the hands and feet of Christ. The only thing that comes down to is that we are who we say we are. Don’t use deceptive marketing or make false promises; be forthcoming and pure in your intentions.
The world chases shortcuts and overnight success, but God’s entrepreneurs do things His way.
Speaking of shortcuts, I was led to Proverbs 13:11 this morning, which says, “Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.” Wow! Isn’t this incredibly on-point?
We need to be sure that we’re serving others with integrity and building with integrity. Let’s not chase that get-rich-quick plan but rather that long-term vision.
Here’s a practical tip: before you do something, ask yourself how you would feel presenting this to God. How would it go? Bonus points for actually presenting it to God as your CEO and seeing what He has to say about it.
Business Advice from a 7-Figure Business Owner: Work Hard but Trust God for the Results
We can control how hard we work, but we cannot control the results of that work. God promises fruit in exchange for those good works. Proverbs 14:23 says, “Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty.” That means we have to work and do the hard things.
I was talking to my students on a call this morning, and I told them that if we want to have glory in our businesses, we have to roll up our sleeves and get in the ditch. We have to get uncomfortable and do hard things. It’s okay to be scared – that’s normal!
If you are here, you are called to have a kingdom business.
This means you are partnered with Him and surrendered to Him. You are walking in humility. The more I began to surrender, the more open-handed I became in my company. I stopped trying to figure it all out myself and hide from the fact that it was hard and I was overwhelmed. It seemed weak to surrender to God, but I laid it all out at the feet of Jesus.
I was broken, surrendered, confused, and had a failed business. It’s been seven years since that moment, and my business is more bountiful and more blessed than I ever dreamed!
It’s truly because I have worked hard but in full surrender. I trusted God with the results. It’s God’s business, and if He wants to take me to crazy, kingdom heights, I will need His help! I need a team, systems, opportunities, help with stewarding, and more!
The Lord has been with me every step of the way, but it required me to be willing to do the hard work.
Work Hard, Don’t Hustle
I want to be clear about something: God honors hard work and diligence. Success doesn’t come from sitting back and waiting. However, we don not mean to hustle.
When I say hard work, I don’t mean hustle! I work less than I’ve ever worked in any business I’ve run in 17 years as an entrepreneur. I work less than 20 hours per week. So, I don’t want you to hustle, I want you to work hard.
Honestly, sometimes working hard means laying down things that aren’t serving you in your business. It means noticing things you must stop because they’re not producing fruit or favor. Do an inventory of your business. If it’s not producing new leads, income or has been ordained by God, get rid of it!
Why do we keep doing the same things when they aren’t producing results? I used to be that person, but I’m so glad I’m not anymore!
We want to work hard and trust God with the outcome, which means we:
Avoid distraction – that means putting down your phone and doing the work!
Avoid multi-tasking. I see you, Lola! Multi-tasking is not a badge of honor. It makes you less productive!
Practical Tip for a 7-Figure Business
Set 90-day business goals and take consistent daily action, even when you don’t see immediate results. Trust that the Lord is going before you and interceding on all your fears. Show up and work hard in the time God has gifted you that day – no more, no less.
I encourage you to start your business with the Lord. The best day starts with God first.
Business Advice from a 7-Figure Business Owner: Steward Your Finances Well
This comes from Proverbs 21:5: “Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.” Proverbs is bringing truth today!
God blesses wise financial decision-making, good planning, and hard work. Not reckless spending or chasing the quick win. What does this mean?
Avoid impulsive investments and unnecessary expenses
Stop throwing spaghetti at the wall
Slow down and ask God for the right course, mentor, or book
Listen and be led
Listen, friends, I am the person who has done this all wrong before! I am an action taker. It’s one of my disciplines to hold back, wait, and listen. I always take action when I get God’s yes, but I sometimes want to move quickly. We need to be sure we’re not just stewarding our revenue well, but we need to be wise to not be reckless with our actions.
Use the 10/10/80 rule. Here’s what that looks like:
10% – tithe
10% – save
80% – everything else
This is beginning advice for you, but it depends on where you are in your company. If you are very profitable, you may be investing more of your profit. If you’re new in your business, you may be reinvesting back in the business. Or maybe you’re giving and tithing more generously than the 10%. This is just to help you get started, but I recommend you pray over this. The goal is to be wise and steward the income that God has blessed you with.
Business Advice from a 7-Figure Business Owner: Surround Yourself with Wise Counsel
Proverbs 13:20 says, “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.” What does this mean? It means your business will grow, and you as a person will grow. You will grow based on who you surround yourself with. Don’t take advice from the world. Seek guidance from Christian mentors, coaches, and communities. Cut out those negative influences that don’t align with your values or business.
I felt so led to lay down social media in my first two years of podcasting, and I was terrified! Everyone around me was using social media to get leads and clients, but when I depended on Him to grow my business, I had a prophetic dream, and He said to start a podcast.
That led me to create a top 20 podcast that helped thousands of others grow businesses using podcasting instead of hustling. That came from cutting out certain voices in my life that told me I had to do something. For me, social media was not God-honoring anymore. It was stealing my time and had become an idol.
