FULL EPISODE TRANSCRIPTION:
(00:00):
Hey, friends! Welcome to today’s podcast. It’s Thursday, let’s go. I’m ready for a fun Thursday. Guys, we are doing some live power coaching today with Mary Cox. Mary needs some clarity up in here.
(00:14):
Have you ever felt like having the tug, you feel the holy spirit nudge and you’re like, I’m gonna do the thing and then you look up and you’re like, what am I doing?
How’s it gonna work? What’s it called? I don’t know. Maybe I won’t do it. Maybe I shouldn’t do it. I decided not to do it.
(00:29):
That totally happens to so many people that end up doing the courses or do coaching with me.
We get in our own way and what’s so interesting is so often the brand, the clarity, the message, the title, the tagline, those pieces are already there inside of you.
(00:46):
You just don’t know how to bring them out and organize them and put the copy to it in a way that gives you absolute peace that you’re doing the right thing.
And I know that when we aren’t sure that we’re doing the right thing, we often do nothing or we go for it.
(01:04):
But because we are so confused and so cloudy, it doesn’t land and it’s not successful. And so having that absolute clarity from the get-go is so critically important to your future success.
And it all starts with what’s my brand, what is this business going to become?
(01:22):
What is the podcast gonna look like? And what is this gonna be? So when I do coaching calls, these are unstuck coaching sessions that are available.
Yes, they’re paid, but they’re available to my students that are in Clarify Your Calling and Podcast Pro University.
(01:37):
We go through what is your tagline? What is the promise of your brand? What’s your title gonna be? Who’s your avatar? What are your pillars? And we come up with content ideas and a description.
That one small, basic business plan in a box sets you free to go and do the thing to build the thing because the clarity is crystal clear. So that is what I’m doing today with Mary.
(02:01):
You, guys, are gonna totally love this. It’s short, powerful, and punchy. So grab a notebook and pen. And before we get into this coaching session, I wanna let you know that today’s the day. Happy spring!
(02:13):
It is my flash sale that I felt led to just gift you guys 20% off of either of my two courses. So if you know then you know, there’s a three-step series, three-step school to creating my exact business model.
So, guys, I work 30 ish hours a week. I have a half-million-dollar business.
(02:52):
Anyways, I have team members. We are gonna have a million download podcast this year. And it’s all because I go through these three steps and I went through them myself.
And then I built out this model and I took hundreds of coaching clients through it.
(03:08):
And then I created the courses to make it more affordable for you, guys, to have the same success that they’re having. And so step one is Clarify Your Calling. This is a 30-day roughly.
You can get through it in maybe three weeks if you’re a gangster, we’ll find out, where you’re gonna figure out what you’re called to do.
(03:25):
Now, this looks at your spiritual gifts, your vocational gifts, who you are at the heart, what your experiences are, trials and triumphs, and all these pieces of you.
(03:34):
And it takes this puzzle and it pairs it down into this really simple formula. And I have templates in there.
I have fill in the blanks and all the things to make it really simple for you to really pair it down into my business, in a box, where you have your title, tagline, description, avatar, and the pillars of your brand.
(03:53):
You also walk away from Clarify Your Calling with over 30 content ideas. Because without the podcast, we don’t have a way to grow a business organically and to have leads coming in.
So we have to have these pieces really super clear before we launch the podcast.
(04:11):
Otherwise, we are throwing spaghetti at the wall, trying to duct tape a podcast together, and it doesn’t land. It doesn’t grow quickly, which is what I want for you.
So then step two, after you’ve graduated from Clarify Your Calling, step two is to move into Podcast Pro University.
(04:28):
In that course, I take you through how to plan your podcast, record, set it up, equipment, edit. You can edit yourself.
You can outsource the editing, how to have all the pieces, how to set up your keywords, set up your podcasting platform, share your RSS feed, get featured on all the places, Spotify, and Apple, and everywhere that podcasts are.
I show you how to do all of that. What your podcasts are gonna be about, how to structure your content so that it lands, and everything in between.
I also teach you how to launch your podcast. If you, guys, go into Apple Podcast and you type in any keyword, you’re gonna find a Stefanie Gass student in those results, which is absolutely surreal.
And here’s the great news is you can be one of them.
(05:12):
There is so much room at the top for you. Pull up a chair. We are at the table. We are seated and there is an empty chair. And is yours and it has your name on it.
And it’s time to walk away from social and algorithms and video marketing and having to put on your makeup 24/7.
Just hang out in your comfies with your coffee, behind a mic and record and let it build a massively successful, scalable business for you. Why are you making this so hard? Trust me.
(05:41):
So either of those courses, both at stefaniegass.com click on courses, and you’re going to use the code ITSMYTIME today, Thursday, 03/17 through tomorrow, Friday 03/18, and save 20% off.
You get to save 20% off of your entire cart.
(06:13):
So if you add both courses, you already get a discount. Well, now you’re gonna get 20% on top of that. You, guys, can save upward of 40% today off of these courses.
So let’s do this, let’s do this thing. Let’s get going. Let’s launch, let’s grow. I’m so excited for you. I’ll meet you inside stefaniegass.com/courses code ITSMYTIME. Let’s listen to some coaching.
(07:41):
I read your notes that you shot over, but tell me a bit about where you’re at, where you’re stuck and we’ll try to flush out as much as we can.
(07:49):
Okay. So my podcast is going to be about life and spirituality and family, and mindset at midlife. So I wanted to call it Midlife Superstar. I just thought that would be fun, but I’m trying to figure out content, pillars, that kind of stuff.
Because I don’t feel I’m really an expert in anything. I just have kind of a wide variety of experiences. Do I talk about mindset or gospel? I do not really know.
(08:17):
So, let’s talk a bit about midlife and tell me a bit about what’s going on for this person.
I’ll be really honest with you talking about gospel and life and spirituality and mindset it’s still too big, even though we’re talking to someone at midlife and you said I could also talk to males and females.
I’m okay with that, but then we gotta pick a niche. We gotta pick a thing. So let’s dive into this midlife period of time, Mary, what’s going on with your avatar right now at this midlife moment?
(08:52):
They slash I, so they’re trying to figure out how to move through this really difficult period. They’re realizing that their twenties are over, thirties are mostly over.
I’m into my forties, but it’s how to get to where you want to go from where you are because you’ve just kind of drifted it into this position where you’re at now. I have a good job, I have a family, I have a house, it’s fine.
But it’s not the life that I really dreamed of or wanted, and they want to learn how to move forward.
(09:28):
Do they want to find purpose and meaning in the life they’ve drifted in this whole time? Or are they trying to find something new and different?
(09:39):
Yes to both.
(09:40):
What has Mary done of the drifting to now, where you’re not drifting anymore? What have you done specifically?
(09:48):
So when I was facing 40 and realizing that I had drifted into a pretty depressing place, I hated my life, my body, and my job. I just didn’t wanna be anywhere or do anything. That was with my current life.
Anyway, feeling like it was too late to move forward because I’d already been doing it for so long. And I was so established in it.
I had to find things that would help me change my thoughts and realize that I was bringing misery upon myself.
(10:21):
Okay.
(10:21):
I found podcasts and I found different, inspiring people to follow and stuff. I had to change what was coming in so I could change what was going out.
(10:32):
Good.
(10:32):
When you listen to murder podcasts, you’re just gonna think about negative stuff all the time.
(10:37):
Exactly. It’s so true.
(10:42):
Yeah.
(10:43):
Okay. So you started to change your thoughts. You started to listen to the right things, discern through what was bringing you to this dark place. What else did you do?
(10:52):
I did get some coaching. I should probably do more, but that was very helpful to me in realizing that I am the master of my own thoughts, that I get to choose where I’m going and where I focus my energy and how I feel about it.
(11:09):
Yes. What else did you do? Did you do anything on a physical, tangible level?
(11:14):
I did start running. I’m not really running anymore, but I lost about 80 pounds, which was really whoa. Well, I regain it. So, that’s how it goes. That was a big accomplishment for me, I ran a half marathon.
(11:29):
So, you started doing, but you started to push yourself
(11:31):
Right.
(11:32):
And focus on some healthy goals. Good. So this is much more specific. So I almost wrote down the title idea of facing 40, you could be facing midlife, facing 40, facing 50, whatever that thing is for you.
But what I liked about what you said is this isn’t an everything podcast, Mary, this is specifically a change of your thoughts to change the perspective of your life.
(12:05):
Or change your thoughts to welcome joy back into your life. It’s specific. The very first thing you had to do was to change your thoughts.
Now she or he, and I’m gonna really dig here to find out which one it is, maybe it’s both, but we’ll see, doesn’t know how to start there.
(12:24):
They wanna change their thoughts, have focused energy, and would like to feel up to even getting coaching.
They want to feel up to even going for the first run but do not know how to even want to do those things.
(12:41):
Why? They hate their life, their body, their job. Feel depressed and isolated. It’s too late to move forward. My life sucks.
So they’re in this mindset of lack and discontentment and you know that the answer’s in their thoughts.
(12:58):
Right.
(12:59):
He or she, I want you to imagine a year from now, your podcast is growing, people are coming in the inbox and you want to start coaching.
Do you feel better equipped to meet with men or to meet with women to help them change their thoughts?
(13:19):
Personally, I feel better equipped to meet with women, but I work in surgery and a lot of times I’m surrounded by men and I have a great time talking with them too.
I have a great rapport with them and really do feel it could go either way.
(13:33):
And do you think that helping a woman change her thoughts would be the same process as helping a man change his thoughts? I don’t know the answer. I’m just asking.
(13:42):
Not necessarily. I think I would probably wanna aim the podcast toward women, but knowing that there will probably be men in the audience as well.
(13:52):
Great. And I’ll tell you as much as I’m talking to women, I mean, hello, I’m like sister, mom, I have a guy in P2P right now. I had constantly have been leaving testimonies for the show and getting in my inbox.
They know they’re welcome here, but I’m still talking to a woman.
(14:10):
Okay.
(14:10):
So that hasn’t been an issue for me, but otherwise, I just want you to niche and start somewhere. So we’re gonna say that this is for women, but men are welcome.
Let’s see if we can’t get a tagline so that we can have a promise for this brand, Mary. Now, also the name Midlife Superstar.
(14:28):
Yes. Cause I really wanna bring in the pop culture aspect of it, cuz that’s kind of one thing that kind of lights me up and that I can take lessons from.
(14:38):
And that’s cute, but it doesn’t do anything for the person except story tell, which is important. And I love it and I think it’ll make you unique.
But I’m just wondering if, because of where this person is, she’s a midlife superstar, whatever. I’m not listening to that.
(14:55):
Just think of what you said to me. I hated my life, my job, my body. I was depressed, isolated late to move forward. My life sucks.
And someone’s like, oh you should go listen to Midlife Superstar. She gonna be like nope. I don’t know if it’s a little too much.
(15:11):
Okay.
(15:11):
To the positive from based on where she is. Cause remember we have to get the person to pick up the book. We have to get the person to open the first page and then be drawn in and they’ll be drawn in by your pop culture. Sure.
They’ll be drawn in by your storytelling. But at the end of the day, what’s in it for me?
(15:28):
What is Mary gonna do for me? And what Mary’s gonna do for me is she’s going to help me transform my thoughts, transform my thinking so that I can stop being negative, pessimistic and start to feel excited about my life again.
(15:44):
So what title, and maybe we should start with the promise and then we’ll come back to the title. So let’s go tagline first, a tagline consists of two pieces, one what they want the most and then two how Mary gives it to them.
(15:58):
Okay.
(15:59):
So I think what we’ve determined is what they want the most is how to change her thoughts, change and master your thoughts so you can blank after 40 or blank at midlife. And it’s what.
What is different about you now? You went from all this negativity to where you sit right now. What did you do? Did you find happiness in your life, joy in your life? Did you revive your life? What happened to your life, Mary?
(16:27):
Well, that’s the thing. It’s still a work in progress. I’m not going to say that Wow, I am thriving, I found all these great things. It’s still a work in progress.
So the first word that came to my mind was thrive. But, there are a lot of days that are just survive, that just gets through it.
(16:45):
How do you feel your life is different though? Cause there you were saying, I hated this. You don’t hate anything anymore. I’m not hearing that from you. We all are still humans.
So life is always gonna still be a work in progress. But what’s the feeling and emotion or the words you’d put to what your life feels like right now. Not today, but in the past couple of months, past six months.
(17:07):
Acceptance.
(17:08):
Okay.
(17:09):
Love.
(17:11):
Yeah.
(17:11):
Excitement, looking forward, discovering.
(17:17):
Oh that’s good. Oh my gosh. I have a title idea. That’s fun.
(17:22):
Okay.
(17:22):
Change and master your thoughts so you can love your life and we’re gonna have to play with the tagline based on what we title this thing. So we’ll just get close.
Change and master your thoughts so you can discover excitement again or in life or after 40 or whatever. Do you like the first part change and master your thoughts?
(17:43):
I’m not a hundred percent sold on it, cuz there’s more than just changing your thoughts. I guess that is the kind of what all boils down to.
(17:50):
In a tagline, you want what it all boils down to. Then, in your pillars, you have all the pieces of changing her thoughts. And yes, there’s lots of other pieces to that, gospel’s part of it? Or spirituality is gonna be part of it?
Mindset? Absolutely part of it. Physically getting out there, your physical, nature, all those pieces. That is a part of changing your thoughts.
But the premise is like, you can’t go change your life and just wake up and start running until you change your thoughts.
(18:22):
Right.
(18:23):
So if that’s the number one problem, that’s what you have to set out to solve.
(18:27):
Okay. Maybe change your thoughts and discover your life.
(18:31):
Change your thoughts and discover the gift of life and discover the gifts of life. Not discover your life, but something about their life. Discover the excitement in life, to discover the brighter side of life.
Anyway, let me tell you what I was thinking for the title. Cause then that might help you bring the picture together.
(18:50):
I wrote down The Oher Side of 40. Because I wanted to play off of the bright side. The other side, but literally tactically, it’s the other side. You’re 43, 44, 49. So that could play the other side of midlife.
The other side of go from negative to positive. Go from bad thinking to good thinking. Go from the dark side to the bright side.
(19:18):
So I dunno if you like that or not, but that’s kinda where I was going.
(19:22):
Yeah. I do.
(19:23):
Do you like 40 or midlife or 50? I know you won’t be in your forties forever, but I just feel like forties is a different conversation than a midlifer.
(19:32):
Okay.
(19:32):
I don’t know why. I think because I work with so many people and they’re like, I’m midlife and they’re 55.
(19:36):
Gotcha. I like the other side of 40. Or facing 40. I like the alliteration of facing 40.
(19:44):
Facing 40 is only $2,300, but it is available.
(19:51):
Well,
(19:52):
It’s available, Mary. The other side of 40, the other side of 40 is also taken.
(20:02):
The bright side of midlife.
(20:04):
Oh, that’s cute. That rhymes. The bright side of midlife. That’s available.
(20:12):
I like that. And bright side doesn’t turn me off where I’m like thrive in your…
(20:19):
Right.
(20:20):
It’s like, look, come to the brighter side. And you can play off of, in your intro, Mary, your storytelling stuff. You feel like you’ve been living in the dark side of midlife? And I don’t know, pop culture very well.
So you’ll have to be like, are you Darth Vader, living in your bat cave at the house? Not wanting to see anybody. Maybe you’re just croaking at people like the Hobbit…
(20:46):
There’s a bright side and it all starts with changing your thoughts and mastering your thinking. That is how you’re gonna discover how you can find acceptance in your life.
Your life is a gift, even as it is, you can even love your life. You can find new discoveries in this every day that you think is hard.
(21:08):
So, you see where I’m going with that?
(21:10):
Yeah.
(21:10):
And then at the end, you can play off of it even more and think of some funny, where they took off or they did a bright side or they got knighted or like something where this person would get that. So we like thebrightsideofmidlife.com.
So, you’re gonna get that, get all the social handles as well even though I don’t need you to use them, just get them. Then let’s fix this tagline.
(21:36):
So, then we should go with master your thinking. That way you can play off the master. The bright side of midlife, master your thinking and create your own epic story. And then I’ll riff you a sample description.
But it’ll be something like welcome to the bright side of midlife. It’s time for you to master your thinking and create your own epic story.
(21:58):
I know, you feel like you hate your life. You hate your body. You hate your job. Maybe you feel depressed, anxious, isolated, and you’re telling yourself it’s too late to move forward. Mary, my life sucks.
And I’m here to tell you that I too had that same thinking, insert, whatever funny pop culture reference.
(22:18):
Like I was the Hobbit doing this thing. I was Darth Vader living in my cave, croaking at people. Listen, what I discovered is that you actually can change your thoughts and master your thinking.
You can go from whatever it is, Jedi to master, you know better than me and create acceptance in your life. Love your life. Be excited. Discover the newness in your every day. You don’t have to be stuck in this dark space, but all begins with you.
It all begins with your mind and it begins with your thoughts. So here on this podcast, I’m going to teach you how to capture the bright side of midlife. Grab your Jedi swords. Let’s win the fight or something.
(23:05):
Those are lifesavers.
(23:10):
This is me trying to tell my husband to score a goal. Or look, you made a score. And he is like, that’s called a basket. Or like I’m so bad at…
(23:21):
I love it. No, you’re great.
(23:22):
But you’ll find the right thing to plug it in where they’re like, oh, this is so fun. We’re gonna be using these fun, quirky stories throughout this podcast, but it’s still tactical and it’s still gonna get me a win.
So you can transcribe that and play with it and get it to be what you want it to be.
(23:38):
Now the last thing, your pillars. So real quick, what are we actually gonna teach on this podcast? And I think what we have to teach, Mary, is what gets her to master her thinking so she can create her own epic story.
(23:56):
So obviously we’re gonna be doing mindset, where I’m just gonna use mindset as the umbrella for this pillar. Which is gonna be thoughts, rewire thinking.
I mean, Hey, you could have therapists on the show. You could have whatever you want as experts in here. You can share the stuff you did.
(24:14):
You can share easy, quick tweaks, do read book reviews around mindset and thought change, the science behind your brain and your thinking. All of that goes in there. I’m gonna do mindset slash thoughts.
(24:28):
Next one. What else helps them change their thoughts and create their own epic story? I think the gospel is non-negotiable.
So let’s put that in there. Gospel slash you said spirituality. And then the third one for me that I think that they need is you also need the tactical.
(24:51):
You need the habits, the routines, to take action. You need to take off your Darth Vader mask and wash your face, the action. Now, that could be a really big one.
But remember where this person is, they’re feeling depressed on the couch. They’re not gonna go sign up for half marathon. You’re gonna have them go outside for 10 minutes.
(25:11):
So, I don’t know what we would call this one, take action?
(25:14):
Yeah.
(25:15):
We don’t like really share the pillars. They’re just for you to bucket content.
(25:18):
Okay. Taking action. That works. Cause we tend to get lost in our own thoughts. And the more you think, the less you act, that kind of thing.
(25:27):
Exactly. So those would be the three pillars. So what that means is when you sit down to record a podcast or as you go through Podcast Pro and you build out the mind map that I talk about, your content should only fit in those three buckets.
If you have something that’s a really weird outlier, really ask yourself, does this help them master of thinking so they can create their own epic story. If the answer’s no, throw it out.
(25:52):
Okay.
(25:52):
But there’s a lot of freedom in these three buckets. Mindset, thoughts, gospel, spirituality, and then this taking action slash physical. I think you’re gonna have so much freedom to play in there.
(26:03):
Okay.
(26:03):
So how does this feel?
(26:04):
Feels good. I like it a lot.
(26:07):
Yay. Me too. I’m so excited for you. That’s a wrap. I hope you guys loved that quick coaching session and glean some wisdom and kind of heard how my system all begins with the five-tier brand map, which is exactly what I do in Clarify Your Calling.
