(00:00):
Hello, friends! I’m super excited to record today’s training for you. We’re going to be going through five really easy steps to help you build an email list using podcasting.
(01:11):
How to utilize podcasting to build your email list. So the first step, the very first thing that we have to consider is super clear messaging, an avatar niche. So, for those of you that have a podcast, or even if you’re just thinking about podcasting, what I want you to begin with is, is my podcast super clear?
(01:33):
The way that I’ve structured the show, do I have a sticky title, an SEO-friendly title? Is my tagline on the art? Is it visible and clean? Basically, does my person know this is for them? When you look at your podcast, you really wanna think of it as the cover of your book.
(01:52):
And if you guys were out there writing a book and you submitted your book to a publishing company, or you self-publish the book, you’d want your book to be a best-seller, right?
You’d want it to hit the top 10 on the Amazon sales list that week like you’d want it to be successful.
(02:06):
So, the most important thing that you can do is make sure that your book is looking good. Is your podcast art on point? Do you have keywords embedded in the title and the tagline and all of those pieces?
But because if we don’t have people organically finding our show, we can’t build our list.
(02:21):
So the first thing is to do a podcast audit it and scrub. And guys, I have tons of podcast episodes on this topic on my show, and we can totally help you do that in my Facebook group as well. But it’s to begin with this clear messaging.
(02:35):
So, once you have, I call it the five tiers of your brand, super clean and clear, and your podcast is good to go, you’re speaking directly to one person, you have the description optimized, your art is looking great, step two is to figure out what your listener or your avatar wants the most.
(02:53):
Not the 27 things they want, cuz we all want all the things. But the number one thing they want the most. So let’s use an example. Let’s say that your podcast is how to have super simple, easy macro planning for busy stay-at-home moms.
(03:13):
And what you wanna think about is, why would this busy stay-at-home mom actually want macros? Why would she want a simple, healthy eating plan? And you’re gonna dig into learning who your person is. You’re gonna look at the analytics of your podcast.
(03:25):
And you’re gonna ask questions, do some market research. And let’s say that you discover what your avatar actually wants the most is she thinks she wants to lose weight.
Oh my goodness. And maybe that’s not what you promote. You’re like, oh, food, freedom and healthy eating.
(03:42):
So this little bit of information is pivotal for you to actually build an email list because you have to know the keywords that she would be searching for in order to get her to click and to get her to come and convert from a listener to a lead.
(03:55):
So when you’ve figured out number two, what they want the most, you’re gonna come to step three, which is a solution-based freebie. So this could be something as simple as 30-day macro plan for busy moms who want to lose weight. There’s your freebie.
(04:16):
And a freebie is simply a checklist or a two or three-page PDF. You, guys, can create these for free in Canva. Super easy, super simple. These can even be an audio tutorial, cuz obviously we’re podcasters. We like to use audio. It can be an audio clip that you deliver via email.
(04:34):
And it can be a video training, your free thing can be anything you want it to be just make sure it solves or begins to solve or begins to touch the problem that your person actually wants to have solved.
But make sure that you’re creating a solution-based optin that they’re asking for, not what you wanna push at them.
(04:58):
But what they actually want and what they’re searching for. So some other options of freebies that we could create based on my example would be 10 ways to lose fat yet find food freedom.
You could do something like a macro setup, 1:1 tutorial for moms who wanna lose weight.
(05:22):
And you could create a 30 days to weight loss and easy macro planning. You could create a five-day email challenge to set up your weight loss habit Kickstarter plan. It’s limitless. Just make sure that you are giving her the verbiage that she wants.
(05:41):
And now here’s the secret for those of you that are like, eh, but what if I don’t wanna provide on weight loss or on whatever the thing is you do, using the verbiage that they use.
Remember this is simply to get people to come into the list and then you get to tell them what their answers are.
(05:56):
So, you get to tell them, oh man, your answers are food freedom or your answers are sustainable long-term fitness and health planning that you can stick with forever. Or your solutions are macro planning with a free food every day that brings you joy.
(06:10):
And you get to tell them the answers, but you have to bring them in based on what they are searching for. Give the people what they want.
So once you’ve created your solution-based freebie, which is step three, step four is you actually have to tell them, you have to pitch and tell people how they can come and get this free thing.
(06:29):
So, let’s say I’m on my podcast. And I have a podcast episode all-around three steps to understanding macros for busy moms who wanna lose weight. That’s the podcast episode. And I come in there and I say, oh man, mamas, today we are gonna learn how to set up your macros.
(06:45):
And it’s gonna be super simple, super fun, super easy. You’re gonna love this. Why do macros even matter for weight loss? Why do macros matter for long-term health? I’m gonna share it all with you today. And I’m gonna make it super easy to understand.
(06:56):
But before to get started, I wanna let you know, I have just created my 30-day macro mastery freebie, which is gonna help you get started with weight loss for busy moms. If you’re a busy mom, this is for you. It just shoots you an email once a day for 30 days.
(07:13):
Or it’s a checklist that helps you get started with healthy habits when it comes to sustainable weight loss and health for busy moms who wanna lose weight, head to blah, blah, blah.com. Download it, totally free. Guys, this is just a gift I have for you to help you get started.
(07:29):
And it just goes a little bit deeper into the macros and into partnering that with your goals of weight loss and being a bit more healthy and feeling great in your skin and finding that confidence. So you can head over there and download it. It’s my gift to you.
(07:44):
So that is number four. It’s making your pitch or your offer super juicy and exciting for your person. It is what they want to hear. It’s what they’ve been Googling. It’s what they’ve been searching for. Definitely mentioning it’s free. Definitely mentioning that it solves her problem.
(08:03):
But definitely mentioning all the value that’s inside of your free thing and then telling them exactly what it is. I think so often here’s where we lose people because we make our freebie sound so fancy or so in-depth or so big. Are we oversell the fact that it’s free?
(08:23):
And remember that when you create a free thing for people, it’s a free thing. Like let’s keep it what it is. And remember that your only job in providing a freebie to generate leads into your email list is to just solve one small problem.
(08:40):
One, get them one small win and you will have locked in a forever client or buyer or student of whatever it is that you market, consumer.
So when we look at this, let’s say that our simple, easy freebie, all it does is help them get started with some sustainable habits and she gets a win. Oh my goodness, that’s amazing.
(09:03):
Or the setting up of her macro plan, that’s easy or even five ways to understand macros so you can lose weight as a busy mom. But maybe it’s simply just a tutorial of understanding the macros, keep it very elementary and keep it very simple. This is gonna get them a win, which gets you a lead.
(09:26):
And if you write down anything today, write that down. Get them a win and get me a lead. That’s exactly the way this works. The fifth and final step here, or tip that I have for you on bringing in people from your podcast to get your free thing and become a lead on an email list is repetition over quantity.
(09:47):
At this point, we have 1500 students going through the Stefanie Gass school in different levels and doing different things so that they can figure out what their thing is and then start their podcast and then monetize with courses and coaching.
(10:03):
And one of the biggest fail points that I see in them trying to really help people and convert people into like an actual paying client or paying student is they’ve offered so many options that their avatar or their listener is highly confused at this point.
(10:21):
So the worst thing you can do in my opinion is, have five to ten different freebies solving five to 10 different problems. It’s highly distressing. It’s stressful. It brings anxiety to your avatar. What you wanna do is say, I understand your number one problem.
(10:39):
Maybe this mom specifically is feeling like her number one problem is just to lose five pounds. I don’t know, but let’s say that that’s what it is. You could have the free thing going, 30-day water weight blaster for busy working moms.
(10:57):
Figure out what’s the first problem that she wants to be solved, create that one free thing. And you can do some market research. You can ask different Facebook groups, what they would actually want once you have some ideas.
(11:11):
But marry something long enough to let it work for you. As a company, I have, I think four freebies, that’s it. And I have three products to sell. So my four freebies simply link one freebie per thing that I market. I don’t have 20 ways to get people into the funnel.
(11:31):
I have one simple way because I figured out what the thing was that they wanted the most. And then I created that solution as a free option. We have different things that we test.
We’ve had a quiz, if you wanna start a Podcast Quiz, we have a Podcast Checklist. I have a Clarity Workshop. So that’s a training tutorial.
(11:52):
And we also have how to start your Business Blueprint that goes through 13 steps of starting an online business. And guys, they all do equally as great as each other.
There’s not one free thing that does better than the other because each of those things solves the number one problem that I’ve identified for my person based on where they are in their journey.
(12:14):
Do you see a lot of them? It’s about them. It’s about what they need, what they want, what they’re searching for. And then it’s in the way that you articulate it on your podcast. So repetition over quantity, continuously market your free thing.
(12:28):
Every episode, you could even pop it into a prerecorded introduction or exit to your show and constantly remind them that you have this free resource for them ready to go. Now, I can’t leave you guys here without saying, what do we do once we have leads on an email list.
(12:46):
We don’t just continue to give free and free, which we do, without though having an implementation solution. So at the bottom of every email, after you’ve provided all the free stuff.
And you’re telling them about your weekly podcast episodes, remember now that you’ve identified their number one problem, and you’ve given that to them in the free thing, how do you give them an implementation solution that’s paid.
(13:09):
Because when people pay for something, they actually show up for it and do the work. So figuring out what your listener wants and how you solve that problem is gonna be the biggest, most incredible piece of information.
Not only to build an email list and create a freebie that’s highly converting, but also make you money in the long run. That’s it.
(13:30):
So, let’s quickly recap the five things that you need to do and be aware of in the five steps in order to build an email list, using podcasting is, number one, clear messaging, number two, figuring out what they want the most.
(13:44):
Number three, a solution-based freebie, don’t care what type it is, keep it simple, especially for your first go. You may have to redo this, you may have to revise this as you learn more.
So, a simple checklist is great to start with, a two-page PDF that has information and clickable links to old podcast episodes. That’s great.
(14:05):
Don’t overdo it, guys. This is free. Number three, creating that solution-based freebie. Number four, pitching using direct, authentic marketing, telling them what’s in it for them, why they would want this, how it solves their problem and exactly what they get and why it’s free.
(14:23):
Tell them why you would give them a free thing. I just wanna help you. I wanna help you get the first win. If you’ve never spent a dollar with me, come grab the free thing and see if it helps you. Just be honest and authentic in the way that you market it.
(14:36):
And then the last thing, number five, repetition over quantity. Consistently remind people about the free thing. Constantly tell them that this is there for them. Use different verbiage and different keywords as you market just to keep it fresh and exciting and new.
(14:53):
That’s it. That’s all I’ve got for you guys, today. And I hope this helped you and blessed you and will allow you to serve the people that you are created and called to serve. So that we can all continue to grow His kingdom in the ways that we were uniquely created to do so.
