defeat the enemy, strongholds and spiritual warfare
Hey Friend!
Wouldn’t it be great if a simple strategy shift is all that stands in the way of making a greater impact on the world? Times are changing, and attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. By making a few strategy shifts in your podcast, you can be well on your way to more listeners and on your way to growing your God-led business.
As believers, we are called to go further than ever for God’s glory. We were created to show up and shine for Him. And friends, that authority can bring great impact along with great income. We should not be afraid of that, but rather embrace it fully! It’s what we wish for as we start podcasts and businesses based on where He’s calling us.
Incredible things happen when men and women of God are aligned with God’s plan and show up for our callings. The money that God provides is simply a vessel to do bigger and greater things while we’re on this side of heaven.
Today, I will share 4 strategy shifts I am making to my podcast effective immediately. I’m spilling the beans and sharing with you what I have learned about podcasting after all these years in hopes that you can get a head start on making a kingdom impact.
These easy strategy shifts will ensure your podcast continues to grow and receive the market share it deserves.
Grab a notebook and pen, and let’s dive into these super easy strategy shifts you can implement today!
Strategy Shift #1: Create a Juicy Snippet for the Front End of Your Show
The first thing I’m doing is bringing a juicy snippet of the podcast episode to the very beginning of the show. Why are we doing that, you ask? Because we have a shorter attention span than ever before. What used to work in the past (long, drawn-out introductions where we talk about our feelings and the weather) doesn’t resonate with people anymore.
Now, that’s not all lost in podcasting. However, our brains are being rewired by our phones and by visual stimulation. Our attention span is down to the lowest point it’s ever been!
Case in point: in just 4 years, we’ve gone from a 12-second attention span to 8.2 seconds. Other statistics have shown it being down as low as 1.5 seconds!
That’s mind-blowing and a little sickening if you ask me. It makes me feel like we should all be throwing our phones in the trash can. Who’s with me?
I have been feeling a lot of discernment about my phone in general. I will be prayerfully considering my relationship with my phone and what that looks like for next year. I’m sick of this hunk of metal capitalizing on my time, focus, and intentions.
Should we do a series about it, or perhaps a ‘phone fast’ together in the new year? I’d love to hear from you! Let me know in our Facebook community or email us with your input.
I digress. Back to our strategy shift…
The goal here is to pull the juiciest piece of the podcast to the front. We’re using this strategic action to capture people from the get-go. They will probably stop listening if we can’t capture their attention in the first 30 to 60 seconds.
Friends, if you can’t keep them engaged, you’ll never get them to like, share, or subscribe to your podcast, and that’s the ultimate goal.
Strategy Shift #2: Shorten Your Intro Jingle
Typically, my students and I have always had a 60-second jingle at the beginning of our episodes. Now, the goal is under 20 seconds of actual speaking. I know that sounds hard, but here’s what we need to get across as quickly as possible:
Who you are
What your podcast is about
How it solves your listeners’ problems
Bonus tip: I added a longer music runway to the front end of my intro jingle. This places the music behind the climactic snippet and adds a commercial-like vibe. Boom!
Listen to my most recent episode to understand what I mean. If you go back to an older episode, you can hear my old intro and compare the two. See the difference?
Strategy Shift #3: Simplify Your Podcast Cover Art
My team is working on a simpler version of our podcast cover art. In years past, we had too much going on in our cover graphics (glitter, sparkles, dancing – all the things!). This new version has a full background, fancy font, and shows me sitting in a chair.
Because our brains are hyperstimulated, we have to dumb things down. It’s disheartening how, as a society, we’ve all been re-wired by our phones, social media, and technology.
As Christians and business owners, we should be aware of this trend. Our listeners may not be aware of their lack of attention span, so we need to shift our strategy and play into this to capture their attention.
This year, my team is simplifying our podcast cover art. When listeners land on Apple or Spotify, they won’t have to think so hard. They will know my podcast is clickable and worthy of listening to. This does not diminish the fact that you MUST have professional podcast art. This is not negotiable!
P.S. If you need help with any of these pieces (podcast SEO, cover art, topics), I’d love for you to check out all the ways we can work together. I recommend you start with Podcast to Profit. We hook you up with a great deal to get your podcast launched.
In years past, we had longer episodes to embed more keywords, which allowed us to speak to people’s emotions. But you guys, we have to play into the climate and culture of today. And today’s culture is that of instant gratification.
For example, instead of a title like, “The Reality of Communicating with Your Spouse When You Constantly Bicker.” We could instead say, “Bickering? One Thing to Stop Doing Now.”
Do you feel the difference? It’s more like a punch in the face versus a long story.
Think strategically about how to make your titles shorter and punchier without losing searchability and keyword infusion. Keep in mind that we have a whole module on that topic in Podcast to Profit.
We are called now more than ever to go bigger for the glory of God.
It’s not about more money for ourselves, it’s about money that is and always was God’s; to be utilized for His kingdom!
Friends, we cannot shy away from going bigger. The capacity we create for ourselves will always be limited, but the capacity that God unlocks is always limitless. With God, all things are possible!
Let’s recap the 4 strategy shifts that I’m implementing in my podcast:
